As an Evertonian, I find it wonderful that all these clubs want Onana for 50m+. If selling him means we can keep Branthwaite and Pickford, I'd bite your hands off. Onana has potential but I warn you, he flatters to deceive. Iroegbunham is exactly the kind of signing we should be making. Young, point to prove, sell-on value (a bit like Onana was). Hopefully this deal works out for both of our great clubs.

Villa are doing great things recently and us Everton fans are pleased for you. But we are both beings hamstrung by the stupid psr regulations which seems designed to hinder us, but help the biggest clubs stay big. Having said that, I think this is good business for my club. A £10m sale does not count as £40m on the books. It counts as £10m.
The term "pure profit" is becoming overused, is misunderstood and I think is being confused with amortisation.
A £10m sale goes straight onto the accounts as income.
A purchase of £10m is accounted for over the length of a players contract (amortisation) Meaning £2m on current accounts and £2m each year after for 4 years (on a typical 5 year contract).
This technically and typically means You can sell a £10m player and purchase a £50m player and it be balanced on the current years accounts. However you still have to find that extra £10m each of the next 4 years. (I think this may be what you're thinking about).
Now, usually when a player is sold outstanding payments are due on the purchase price you paid for him. Lets say we had bought Irrogbunum for £10m 2 years ago on a 5 year deal. We would have paid £4m and still owe £6m. A £10m sale is only worth £4m as we need to still pay that £6m over 3 years. Though fornthis accounting period it would be an £8m profit with pure losses of £2m for each of the 2 years after.
This isn't the case for academy players, as you're not paying a previous transfer fee on him. People only recognise academy players on a "pure profit" discussion. However it is also true of players for which their transfer fee in has already been paid off. So if a player signed for 5 years, and then extended at any point during that time, on his 6th year, you would owe no money on him. A sale would be "pure profit".
It's worth noting that "pure profit" is only a term and not really representative of any situation. All players are paid and academys have millions pumped into them with each graduate costing a fair sum of money to develope into a pro.

It's not that surprising to me. I find it strange when it keeps being explained on MSM. I find it to not be too complicated a concept and get annoyed/bored with constant simple explanations.
Two main problems is that many people don't consume news/media past headlines or short clips and then themselves type a short misinformed comment/post on social media. Also those explaining it in the first place are always described as experts but don't understand it past the simple terms we do.
I was listening to a so called expert the other day waiting to hear how the Luiz transfer works because it makes no sense under current rules. When asked about it he skirted the question. I learned nothing. Some have said there are new rules but I think this is more of the 1st problem I mentioned. I have looked for these new rules and can find nothing.
If the class is disruptive and the teacher knows nothing at all, you have no hope.

You can’t just multiply a number by four to see the impact on PSR. The impact is the number not a multiple. Multipliers only work on incomings through amortisation over the length of contract. If we have a £60m hole, selling a player for £10m brings the gap down by £10m not £40m

Onana has good potential but in reality he is only third choice behind James Garner and Gana at Everton. He gets himself noticed due to his size, his personality and is always cheerleading the crowd and first to talk to the TV.
So far he is a pretty average DM and not a 40m player, so a gamble, not the finished article as you would want for that money, that is why most fans want him sold ahead of Pickford or Branthwaite

Hey how does it work for costing if we swap players ie in the pending deal for Dougie...
Do the swap players go down as a cost or just a wage cost 🤔

    • @outofthetrash5925
      @outofthetrash5925 8 днів тому +2

The Dougie one is eluding me. People talking about new rules that I can find absolutely nothing about and wouldn't work anyway.
Swap deals were never common but are becoming more common in a sense. That sense is that they are not swap deals.
The last few years what teams have done is each bought a player from One another to help the accounts.
So City bought Kovacic for £40m and then a few weeks later sold Palmer to Chelsea for £40m. To me and you that's a swap. However if they just swapped them they don't get the benifits of juicing the accounts.
When Chelsea sell Kovacic, they put the £40m straight onto the accounts. When they buy Palmer for £40m (on a 5 year contract) they account for £8m this season and then £8m for 4 more years (5 years total). So on this years accounts they made a £40m sale and spent £8m so they are in profit £32m on that "swap deal" for this year only. City also account theirs the same.
For the next 4 years both City and Chelsea still need to find the extra £8m a year to pay it off.
So "swap deals" are becoming more common but they're not really swap deals. Each club pays for the player and both get to make their accounts fall within FFP rules for 1 more year.
The Luiz one is weird because its being suggested it is a straight swap but we also get cash. The normal way would be We pay for McKennie and Jrn and Juve just pay us more for Luiz. If it's a proper swap, we can only put the £15m on the books and Juve don't get any money to put on their books for this year. People are saying new rules mean that we can put the value of Jnr and McKennie on the books as cash as if we sold Luiz for £60m.
This makes zero sense. Even if it could be done, who values the players? We didn't pay for them so we didn't. It would require a 3rd party valuer to make sure it was fair. Having a 3rd party would be even more messy than clubs valuing players at whatever they want after not paying for them. I can find nothing on these supposed new rules from EUFA or the PL. I think someone has gotten confused, typed something on Twitter or something and it's been picked upon by others that don't understand but report it anyway.

It doesn't. It adds just under £10m. If memory serves we got him from West Brom in 2021 and had to pay £1m compensation. On a 5 year contract we are paying £200k to West Brom a year and still owe £400k. A sale of £10m represents £9.6m profit or £9.8m this year with a complete loss of £200k next year on a player we no longer have.

Hold out and you can probably get £12m maybe even £15m or you you risk it not happening at all. We need a sale before June 30th so just get it done.
Everton also need sales so, I assume they know they're making One soon to be spending. Given it's a MF they'rebuying, it's probably Onana.
To that end they may even know the fee they're selling for and have worked out they can thus spend £10m (£2m on this year for a 5 year contract). If that's the case, they may not be able to do more, so We take what We can.
On the other end, if Onana is being sold, perhaps it's to us so being cooperative with them now rather than messing around may even help us there.
