  • Lake Gregory pulled a fast one and did a surprise stocking of 2,000lb of Calaveras trout (Lightning & Rainbow trout) ! Word spread quick. I arrived at 6am, It was still pitch dark but there were plenty of people already fishing as their lights lit up the whole lake. I waited until it was bright to make my way around the lake jigging with no success. When the wind picked up, I swapped to powerbait which seemed to get the job done.

    Phenix mirage 6'1" rod + Shimano Sahara 500 reel + 4lb izorline xxx

    Wow, congrats! And great to see they are stocking the big 'uns again. It is rare to see anyone with baitcasting reels on this lake, BFS or not. Another great way to enjoy this lake is with float tubes. A few years ago, we were regularly catching 3-7 pounders. We got a couple of 7+ in one fall season. It was an amazing time. Liked.

    Do have a question. In these large wide open waters, most use spinning reel with 4 lbs braid for maximum casting distance. What advantages does BFS offer you over spinning reels in these environments? I actually have BFS equipment but never used it... Thanks in advance for any insight.

    • @itskimmayy12
      @itskimmayy12  9 днів тому +3

      I guess for large, wide open waters, there aren't any real advantages besides preference of reel. Personally, I can cast further with a bfs than a spinning reel. The accuracy of my casts are better as well. Since I do a lot of jig fishing, casting with a bfs takes less effort/less tiring than with a spinning reel

    • @2musiclover534
      @2musiclover534 9 днів тому

      @@itskimmayy12 Thanks. Just to confirm, you cast further with BFS even with a 1/16 and 1/32 jigs? I've not tried BFS so I don't know but this is amazing if so. I thought a spinning reel without a spool to spin up would cast further all day long. Regarding tiring, I can see that. The ergonomics is wonderful. However, with a properly built spinning rod with a 5 oz spinning reel that is perfectly neutral in balance is a revelation as to how effortless over the course of a day. Thanks again for the interaction. No more questions besides the distance question. For me, casting distance is a top priority in these wide open waters. Not much accuracy needed - where BFS really excels.

    • @itskimmayy12
      @itskimmayy12  9 днів тому +2

      @@2musiclover534 Yes, I can toss a 1/32 and 1/16 oz jig further with a bfs, but I cannot toss a 1/64. i can only toss that with a spinning. This is just me personally. I think i just suck casting with a spinning reel haha.

      @@itskimmayy12 Amazing. I'll have to try. May I ask what kind of line and lb test are you using? Gregory is wonderful lake. Back in the day, my kids picked up a bunch of trophies and some cash when they ran a bunch of fishing derbies for kids, including one special event just for kids drawing hundreds of people. Fun days but the person running it passed away.
