@@johnb61030 feet of Storm Surge. That’s about as insane as it gets. I remember wanting to ride out Hurricane Michael in Florida because it was 36 hours after Drew Brees broke the Passing Yards record at the time. I was staying in Gulfport Motel 6 during that time frame.
Lived in Gulfport when that storm hit. Still do. It was awful seeing the mass destruction it left behind. Especially in Biloxi, Bay St. Louis, Waveland, and Ocean Springs. We had bridges COMPLETELY wiped off their concrete slabs. Casinos ripped apart, in the ocean, across the road, all the way down the highway. Restaurants, homes, hotels and apartment complexes gutted out from the storm surge. Bodies floating out to sea, and some have never been found. So much devastation.
It wasn't the ocean it's the gulf of Mexico.. the ocean doesn't get this hot 🔥💯 trust me ocean is cold the gulf of Mexico all it need is 80 degrees that's it 80 degrees and that's how it attract the hurricane 🌀. If I remember right Katrina had the largest eye of the 2005 season, and Wilma in the same season had one of the smallest at just 2 and a half miles across. The biggest ever seen was 1997's Typhoon Winnie, it was so huge you could fit Texas in it and still have room.
I was 6 when I realized I liked watching the Weather Channel, and it just so happened that a day after my birthday, I was about to watch live hurricane coverage, the first time I saw or heard of a hurricane, albeit on TV, it was Katrina. I live far from any area that get hurricane damage or even remnants of them, down in Kentucky. A perfect introduction to the beautiful horrors of our world. I don't remember many hurricanes, but Katrina, Irma, Dorian, Harvey, Florence, Felix, Ike, Sandy, Irene, Maria, and the one I distinctly remember, Matthew. These hurricanes I remember were especially terrifying. But none ever came close to Katrina in terms of fear and awe. And seeing this makes it extra special, I never knew her remnants hit up here.
