That final scene was phenomenal. The tension in the air mixed with the perfect song choice and top notch acting from both actors. Gi-hun slowly handing the gun to him after the fifth click and throwing his words back in his face...chefs kiss🔥

Ah fantastic. I've been seeing others reacting to Season 2, and I was wondering where you both were, and when I was going to see you both reacting to S2.

I'm surprised that since they were already tracking Gi-hun, that they did not try to use his daughter to try to control him. The first thing I kept thinking when that salesman was stomping on what I assume was that korean bread filled with bean paste, is all that good food being wasted, lol. To me, it looked like him stomping on the bread was not just an act, but he actually did seem properly angry too like he actually wanted more people to choose the bread instead. If you need really good counter-programming for this intense show, I think you would like The Skeleton Crew. The trailer did not do that show justice and it's a shame The Acolyte aired before it or The Skeleton Crew would have more eyes on it.

You know what I think is most interesting about this show? I know everyone makes the "scathing criticism of capitalism and the ultra-rich" comment that is super easy and take that as the whole review and that's it; but I think it's a lot more nuanced than that.
Rewatching this first episode with y'all and another channel I watched recently started watching season 1, made me realize how much this show is also criticizing everyone involved in it. Yes, the rich are only giving you a fake choice between circus and bread or gambling; but people are constantly making choices to enforce the system and avoid being responsible for their own freedoms and well, their responsabilities.
Just like the person that took the bread over the lottery, the good people playing the games are 1 in 100. They're all mostly low lifes that would sell their moms for 50 cents. They're thiefs, scammers, evaders, drug dealers. Yeah, a few in there are good eggs down in their luck, but that far and away *is not* the majority. That's not to say that there is a middle class that is morally superior or anything; but there's this morally gray area here that no person in this story is good, even if we sympathize with them. I don't think Gi-hun is a good guy that woke up to realize who the enemy is. I think Gi-hun is a bad guy that woke up to realize he hated what the mirror that was raised to him made him hate himself and everything around him, as right away he's using his money to articulate and throw people's lives out. Granted with more care, but he's still hiring muscle to do his dirty work and maybe die for him, in order to threaten the lives of even more people that he thinks he's justified in doing.
