Hi Guys, Stinging Nettles are the first greens ready for making pesto, in the Spring time. Although we are currently getting Winter weather, with 3 hailstorms so far today, it doesn’t really feel like Spring. 😊💕
N Knighton ah yes you sure know dry hot weather, there are some great Rap Jumping cliffs in AZ and a shout out to my friends at Skydive Arizona, while I’m on the adrenaline topic. 🪂
Stinging nettles is my must have herb. It also helps with arthritis pain by laying it on the area of pain. My favorite way is a tea it makes a great tea. Great for female hormones etc. Thank you for the pesto recipe. Hugs
Little Jordan Farm Hello Tammy, there are so many must have herbs aren’t there. That is very interesting regarding the arthritis treatment and I didn’t know about the benefits to balancing hormones (? I’m guessing) thank you so much for sharing. I just love herbs, there are so many wonderful uses. Blessings to you Tammy 💕
Hi Elissa, I love nettle pesto, but gathering the nettles is not my most favorite job... lol. Nettles are great for tea and also as greens in a quiche or pie. Hope you’re keeping well and warm xx Cathi xx
Little Garden Big Dreams hi Cathi, yes gathering the nettles is a job seperate from usual produce collection. They can be brutal but with gloves, well worth it. I must remember to add them into my next quiche, that sounds so good. Hope you are doing well x💕
Thank you. What a great idea. We have so many stinging nettles in our garden at the moment. I have used them for a soup, but will try the pesto for sure
OMG this was great, I'm hooked on it, I personally added a tub of chickpea houmous and an avocado and it lasted over 5 days in the fridge, thanks for your time and effort 😊👍
G'day Elissa, I've never tried the stinging nettles before but have heard they are very nutritious, I'll have to give this pesto a try thanks for the recipe. Have a great weekend stay safe and God bless you. 🦘👍
I love it! Thanks for the recipe, I’ll have to try it next spring. Last spring we harvested heaps of nettles and dried it for tea. I’ll also throw it in soups for extra nutrition. It’s been fun to learn about nettles and how much nutrition they actually provide. Enjoy your pesto my friend. 💚
Trisha Brink hi Trisha, it’s great you’re making good use of your nettles, adding them to soups is a wonderful way to get everyone in the family eating them 😀
Not tried nettle pesto - yet, but I love nettle soup. It is a little like watercress soup, very yum. We have wild garlic here (also known as ramsons) and we made pesto with that and used cashew nuts. At the moment we are racing the squirrels to the walnuts . . . and losing! Arghh little rodent beasties! Thank you - I'll bear this in mind for next year - coming into autumn fast and juicing apples at the moment! xxx
Kerry L that soup sounds good and I love how pesto is so versatile and that you can use the greens and nuts that are in season or available. We don’t have squirrels here but they do look cheeky, from what I’ve seen. Enjoy the apples 😀
They are cute, but not when they thieve everything. We don't mind sharing but they can't understand that concept! LOL! Just been trimming the muscovies wings - after watching your video of course! And thank you for that too! xx
On my morning walk I came across several patches along the lake another 2 weeks and they'll be ready to start harvesting. I've also sauteed it with olive oil and garlic and eaten it like that or tossed with pasta.
Hi, Elissa. I've got poke salad Growing in my yard wild. The black "berries are toxic but good for making ink from or dye. The poke salad is only eaten in spring when young. There's a song about it , "Poke salad Annie". You may have heard it. Lol
Edie Boudreau hi Edie, I am not familiar with poke weed, I googled it to see if we use a different name, but I haven’t seen it before, nor do I know the song 😂
My gran used to wrap them in a damp cloth and use them as a compress on anywhere that was sore, knees, her back or the back of her neck. She swore it helped anything inflamed through arthritis or sprains. Never tried it for a headache though.
@@MoatCottage I'm very excited to see you. I'm not either but maybe it will taste good. I personally prefer fruit tea well cold fruit tea. I sometimes buy some cold tea bags they are really good often I get watermelon and strawberry(I think). But that's really the only tea I like
Cherii fox that sounds very interesting, I do like tea in fruit kombucha, that’s a homemade fizzy fruit tea. I don’t have any ready for this weekend unfortunately.... 💕 I’m excited too 💕
@@MoatCottage I'm very bad when it come to drinking water so I use that I have some of the tea bags in the food bag we are taking if you like you can try some 🙂
I just made nettle pesto with fresh tender nettles foraged from the back of the garden. It's really good (didn't use cheese though). Its so full of vitamins and minerals, I'll be doing this again for sure. I'm also going to get some growing in a pot, brilliant idea🌟🌟

Some good uses for stinging nettle there. I use it along with rosemary to make a herbal shampoo (soap) bar.
That is a great use for Stinging Nettles and Rosemary, thank you for sharing your tip.

I've also heard that stinging nettels make nice tea I've never actually tried it though
Cherii fox Hi S, I’m not a tea lover, but I’m sure it would be nutritious.
Have an awesome weekend 😁👏

How apropo that a dog is using the bathroom in your garden while you're talking abt keeping it from happening on the nettles. 😂🤣
HootOwl Holler 😂 my money was on either you or Edie mentioning Echo’s inappropriate cameo 😩, of all the places in the yard 🤦🏽♀️ 🤣
Can you eat the stems?
Yes
Are you Ann reardons sister?
No not Sisters 🙂
I wonder if it could be frozen? Or if foraged nettles can be frozen in batches? Anyone?
Yes you can freeze it
Why would you leech out the nutrition in hot water? Stinging nettle tea is so nutritious telling you the nutrients are water soluble.
To eat stinging nettles they must be blanched first to remove the sting. You do not remove all the nutrients by doing this. Of course nettle tea is another fabulous way to enjoy the benefits of nettles but this recipe is for pesto
