What do you do when something tragic happens?
Tragedy does not wait for us to be prepared, so we need to be equipped before it strikes. Often times, when disaster hits, we are left asking, “What could have been?...What should I have done?...Could I have prevented this?...etc.” The reality is, you cannot change the past, but you can secure your future by trusting in Jesus.
In John 11:1-44, Jesus hears the tragic news of the death of His very close friend, a man named Lazarus. When He travels to see the family, He encounters those who are grieving and mourning and He is deeply troubled and the Bible records that, “Jesus wept” (vs.35). But, when Jesus comes to the grave of His friend, He does something no other man has authority to do: He resurrects Lazarus from the dead by a word of command! Jesus tells us quite a few things in this record that will prepare us for tragedy, and if you listen carefully, you understand that tragedy will not triumph is your trust in Jesus.
