If you're Harry's mum then please tell him not to wear gloves whilst working with a lathe. Several experienced turners have told him that this is a serious safety concern - if trapped he could have a serious accident. There is no need for gloves at the lathe
@@duncanhoyle3662thank you for your concern, I know there have been many comments about his use of gloves, however, Harry is an extremely clumsy person, the gloves Harry wears are very tight, like a second skin, he wears them to protect his hands, I have seen the cuts and nicks he's had from the lathe when not wearing gloves. Also a few months back he sustained a small cut to his hand while using his band saw, while wearing gloves, this would have been far more serious if he hadn't been wearing them. I think it's a generational thing, I have seen other younger woodturners who also wear the second skin style gloves. Thank you again.

I love it and have made lots and team it up with my art. Check you haven't got a Club in your area. Now I'm obsessed with watching Harry's great work

So i've given one of my sons all but one watch as he is a keen collector, he'll get the last one in 3 years when i turn 75, it was my grandfathers so it's over 100 years old, solid gold pocket watch, a half hunter by Benson's of London, a much treasured family heirloom, and yes make more watch boxes. @@HarrySmithWoodturning I have a single special watch that I only wear when going out, it has its own box, I did enjoy watching you turn that piece, it had a few different elements to the build that made it more interesting than usual.
Very nice, Harry. Containers with fitted lids are very cool. I don't know where one would get the, aahhhh, ummm silicone(?) to make ones that are airtight or how that would work, but think a set of small ones would be wonderful as holders for spices in the kitchen. One with a lid that is attached and slides would be a great salt holder. (salt doesn't have to be airtight.

I think Harry, your mom doesn't use your gift, it's not because she doesn't like or want it...I think she sees it not as a functional box, but like myself, as an incredible work of art. Very, very well done.
One can always go to a shop and buy a present. Yes, they had to work to earn the money to be able to buy that item but that is “probaby” no big deal. Yet, the gift that was made by the a person with their own hands and time is always, in my opinion, always the better gift. That gift tells the receiver of the gift that the presenter values them enough the spend time to “make” a gift that is likely not even in that person’s their skill set. My faux father gave me a coffee table with a tiled top. He was a mechanic, not a carpenter but he did it. It was a bit wobbly and not quite square but it said heaps to me about how he felt, even if he couldn’t actually come out and say it. It went a long way to repairing the rift that was between he and I.
Yeah - When things disappeared around my mother's house, there were thoughts within the family about thier whereabouts too... And the thoughts always seemed to center around the one family member with a drug addiction. Sorry about your Mom's watch.

@@HarrySmithWoodturning My interest in watches, is mainly confined to people watching. It is supremely amusing. to me. to watch the strange antics and interactions of others. My strong interest, as a design engineer, is in design, and form, rather than any specific use, although use, often controls the design and form. I have a mate, who when his father died, should have received his father's silver pocket watch, but one of his brothers stole it, and sold it, as he was in financial difficulties. (His normal state.) That caused some family friction, and the sister, who was the remaining actuator of the will, refused to pay the brother, until the watch was returned to my mate. This became an impasse as it was not possible for the brother to get the watch back. The matter dragged on for a couple of years or so, and some sort of settlement was eventually reached. SIBLINGS! I'm sure another watch box would be interesting, as most of your designs show ingenuity, which I admire. .

Yeah - When things disappeared around my mother's house, there were thoughts within the family about thier whereabouts too...

My interest in watches, is mainly confined to people watching. It is supremely amusing. to me. to watch the strange antics and interactions of others.
My strong interest, as a design engineer, is in design, and form, rather than any specific use, although use, often controls the design and form.
I have a mate, who when his father died, should have received his father's silver pocket watch, but one of his brothers stole it, and sold it, as he was in financial difficulties. (His normal state.) That caused some family friction, and the sister, who was the remaining actuator of the will, refused to pay the brother, until the watch was returned to my mate.
This became an impasse as it was not possible for the brother to get the watch back. The matter dragged on for a couple of years or so, and some sort of settlement was eventually reached. SIBLINGS!
I'm sure another watch box would be interesting, as most of your designs show ingenuity, which I admire.
