Building Sense: Retrofitting historic buildings: Grade II and curtilage listed case studies

  • Herefordshire based Arbor Architects joined us to explain how they work to improve energy efficiency in historic buildings by adopting a whole house approach to energy efficiency measures - without causing harm to the building fabric or the well-being of occupants.
    They compared two case studies; a curtilage listed barn conversion retrofitted to the EnerPHit standard (passive house equivalent), and the retrofit of a Grade II listed farmhouse in Dorstone, where energy modelling will be key in understanding which energy saving measures will be permissible given the historic significance of the building fabric.
