I closed eyes and tried going through the motions, got about halfway before I pulled this video up. Haven't practiced in almost 10 years I guess the muscle memory was still there a bit 🤣😅

After the pandemic I stated doing Taekwando again and had to memorize all the poomsae and is was easy in 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 but 8 and Koryo is really hard and I’m stating to think of practicing it over and over until I come back again to impress my teacher.

Tae Guks have little meaning. Koryo hyung( not poomsae) came out of the Kor Yus, from old Okinawan karate.
There are actual breaks , throws, and pressure point strikes including arms and legs. Like the Chulgi forms( hyungs). Do it for the understanding. For instance, the opening move they now call Koryo Choon bi. It is a defense, and also a focusing move. Remember, this form was a warriors death battle. His father sent him 3 times to capture an enemy generals head. His failure was watched by his men. Who all respected and admired him. The next day they defeated the Silla troops, who outnumbered them 3 to 1. Hence this Hyung, represents his battle. The real truth is, the Kor yus, were an Okinawan series, useful for combat. Aggrandized to stimulate fighting spirit.
The sonnal makgi starts by stepping left with the hand at face and shoulder height. This might be a parry. But more likely catches the elbow with the rear hand, front hand going back rakes the eyes. Rear hand redirects elbow, front hand sudo strike to temple
