Entumbane 2 was in Feb 1981 and 1 RAR Battle Group had C Coy on the Beer Hall Hill in Entumbane when it kicked off, so I cant see how RAR were 3 days late as we were already on the ground. The reaction company moved immediately with the rest of the battalion following soon after. B and D Coys heading for Entumbane while A Coy blocked the eastern edge of Bulawayo off with the armoured car boys. This is where the BTR 152s were knocked out. Read the book Inyantue to Entumbane the RAR Association still has copies I believe. The BSAP Support Company, RR and other elements were also defending key routes and locations but we could never get anyone to come forward with more info to include in the publication.
I must apologise for the focus quality of the footage but I was using my fathers old cine 8 wind up camera which came out to Africa with us in 1954. The lens had cracked and fallen out but I just felt I had to document this historic moment in 1 RAR history. Great memories as many of our characters are in there including my Pl WO and my Batman Nyoni. All great men. This was taken not long after ZIPRA at Gwaai River Mine AP decided to surrender their position there as they new what was coming.
Entumbane 2 in 1983 was the big one. 2000 Zipra fighting 2000 Zanla and Police Support Unit with a re-inforced company of 300 corralling the lot in Entumbane. After 3 days RAR arrived and took over.
@@RARAssociation there seems to be a lot of confusion about this. Again Entumbani 1 was I 1981. Emtumbame 2 was in 1883. RAR was of course involved in this also and Maj Usher got an award for his actions.
@@seanochroidheain6687 Entumbane 1 was Nov 1980. Entumbane 2 was February the following year, 1981. Please read the book. All the documentary evidence , from Commander 1Bde and from Army HQ, contains the dates 1980 and 1981. Tony Husher was awarded the BCZ for his actions in 1981, along with Lionel Dyck (SCZ), David Hill (BCZ), CSM Ncube (BCZ), and Tex Chinyanganya (Commendation Medal, the replacement for the MFC in the new Honours system.)
I forgot to mention during Entumbane 2 Major Tony Husher and his Support Company moved to a number of key routes and locations to provide fire support including moving with the armoured car boys to block the road from Essexvale. All this happened within hours of the fighting having started.
1 RAR were assimilated into the ZNA and effectively retrained the new ZNA battalions in 1 Brigade to RAR standards. I had this from one of our old African officers who we brought over to the UK in 2007.

Brilliant footage, John. As you can see, this video is very popular.

Wow. Amazing footage my friend.
And Joshua Nkomo disarmed these men. Satan has power
And their reward was to be disbanded and then hunted down. Poetic Irony I guess
