Thanks for posting. Balanchine is a great influence on me. To see such notables as Edward Villella and Alexandra Danilova in the crowd was quite moving.
@@DianaMoon11428 Technically dancers (& classical musicians) today on par. Musicality & staging in ballet another matter. The Balanchine genius, spirit, drive, energy mostly missing. From Bach to Balanchine there existed an explosion of creative virtuosos & inventors in the West. Balanchine was the last artistic genius of the 20th Century. Instinctively many people grasped that. Since the high tech mid 80s most gendres (film directors, composers, choreographers, novelists, Broadway playwrights, musicals, painters, architects, etc.,) have entered a new dark age. The prolific creative geniuses and innovators under 60 aren't there --nor the cult audiences.
No one stated that except G.Kirkland and but she complained and blamed everyone for her issues with drug addiction. She was a sick person who did not know to accept responsibility for her life. She was a great dancer but only up to a point.
Its crazy how people idolize this guy like he's a God, there's only one God and it's not him. Many of these dancers are lost souls who do not know Jesus Christ. Hopefully Balanchine knew Jesus Christ before he died. Hope he did
He went to catholic services every Sunday and that funeral is at a Greek Orthodox catholic church..this indicates...He believed in the Lord Jesus Christ , the true Superstar.

I look at videos like this and I wonder if we will ever have artistic icons like this again.
No it's over!
Balanchine: seing the music. Imo the best comment by dÀmboise.
"They called me "rat".". Look at the man's funeral. Take heart.
I know this is ballet world here yet i wanted to say....everyone was thin in the eighties ! Including balanchine ,. What a different world now.!
Love the opening line.
Please I am begging you do you have any videos of Suzanne doing the 2nd movement symphony in c! PLESSE
Dancer21 dear you are obsessed
Markie Polo yes I am obsessed with Suzanne. What's your point?
Thank you. (Be nice to see that Orpheus sometime!)
There's a black and white dvd of an old NYC ballet broadcast available on Amazon
Rusty Phresh Thanks - have that one. Was hoping for the 70s NYCB broadcast with von Aroldingen, Martins, and Luders.
ken danziger Hello, I wasn't aware of that cast. I really admire karin von aroldingen. I'll be on the outlook for that version.
Oh! Now hat would be great!
Yes Balanchine is only as good as the dancers who dance him. Where did they all go?!

A great American.
integrity? really? giving dancers drugs so that they can perform? his sick idea of what is beautiful?

God manifests spirituality in many ways. You don't own Jesus Christ or have jurisdiction to define Godliness, mentors or "lost souls".
Seeking Truth Stop shoving your fictional god down everyone’s throat. Balanchine, btw, was quite faithful in his life, which is neither here or there.

@@noblesetsentimentales correct, they just need to accept His
I agree. I do know that Balanchine was catholic
