Great video Capt! Love this old school GW module. Planning on replaying it with a new group in the not-too-distant future. Thanks for the tips on expanding the content. Rock on sir!
Thanks for the videos Cap. No worries on the two weeks as far as I'm concerned. Totally understood. Take care yourself so you can keep taking care of us. Ill still be here.
I'm old so I played this game when it first came out. I skipped the provided map and made my own regions (secretly) in northern south America, so the players couldn't guess where military bases were located. Good times!
So much Willingham art (one of my all time faves!), his stuff reminds me of comics legend John Byrne. Am I remembering correctly that this one actually came with one of the boxed sets? I love the Gamma World stuff, Capt. I wish there was much more to run with!
This one eluded me for years. Didn't get a copy until well after my old middle-high school group had broken up and never did get a chance to run the darn thing.
I remember the story about the gold armored guy on the cartoon. I think it is such a connection point for this element and thank you for remembering to bring it up. Wonderful memories from this game and I appreciate you brought those memories back to me. Thank you for that and everything.
The underwater laboratory is one of my all-time favorite locations. With its 'rampant' technology, it really brought into focus the lost grandeur of the past for me back in the day.
The destruction hammered by the Lake Beast [it's got a mini write up, in a Dragon mag ] is what really made me pause, as a GM. It's hard to imagine androids experiencing fear, but it's nice to know 4 or 5 androids getting eaten with 1 bite is just one of those cool in-game occurrences.
Great adventure that I ran for our high school club about '84. Cooler yet, I grew up and still live in one of the towns on the game map and even worked in Horn (Elkhorn)!
Gamma World fans should check out Mutant Epoch from Outland Arts. It's an old school style science fantasy RPG for the 21st century. Even better than GW, in my opinion.
Even though the module was only 31 pages long it packed enough info for an entire campaign which I what I used it for . I even expanded the leigon if gold base to include a large underground area that had vehicle maintenance area along with a supply room filled with parts for the vehicles there ( 2 hover jeeps , a hover tank and a hover transport bus ) that needed fixing . My players love it
I'm glad to see Mutant Crawl mentioned. I ran a full conversion for MCC of Legion and Famine which by the end we were running on our own story fighting Tetraplex who had installed himself in the La Prix facility. By the end, we were fighting an army of Mutant fox clones with an army of androids modeled after one of our players who discovered he was actually an android. Good times, most fun we've ever had storytelling.
My mutant grizzly bear with giant wings died at the end of the module. ☹️ he took out couple of the legionaries. Our GM was really good at running this campaign. 😊
Fantastic module!! yes, it is a full "sandbox" campaign in such as short book! I even adapted this to D&D, as sort of a mini-"expedition to the barrier peaks." LOL
I remember running this as a kid back in the dark ages;-). It was one of the very few 'sandbox' type adventures TSR published in the era (Secret of Bone Hill I think was another one I can remember) and it provided enough details to springboard a campaign for a fledgling GM (iirc I was 12 when I ran this). If I remember there is a pretty hefty amount of high speed tech loot to be found in this (a suit of power armor stands out in memory) but Gamma World also had a tendency to be extremely deadly. Well worth a look and it was a lot of fun for my friends and I.
That’s very true about it being deadly. I think there was an article in dragon magazine where they compared some of the war bots from gamma world not sure which addition to some of the gods from ADnD and the war robots were no slouch like they might be able to take down a god or two depending on how many you could roll in Which just goes to show how dangerous it is. Compared to the other monsters in the game
I've got loads of Gamma world 2nd 3rd and 4th edition stuff (the best editions). It's great had so much fun as a kid. I dunno if you've done Star Frontiers but that's like it's space opera sci-fi sibling and I have all the stuff for that.
You been keeping up with the fan-created stuff since TSR ended the Star Frontiers line? Star Frontiersman magazine in particular, but there's plenty out there. Very healthy fan community for a game of its age.
@@richmcgee434 vaguely sounds familiar, are these suplements on RPG net. There was a guy selling 3d printer minis of star frontiers models on Shapeways I think. He sold the minis but not the STL files
@@davedogge2280 Try here: starfrontiersman.com/ Think they are/were on DTRPG as well. Certainly some minis out there, from Shapeways ships, one guy that was doing resin casting of ships in a garage shop about ten years back, and Ganesha Games has a bunch of SF-with-the-serial-numbers-filed-off figs of Yazirians and others on sale through Alternative armies.
@@ForeverYoungKickboxer What upsets me is the latest Gamma World incarnation with the cards etc. It's a bit of a car crash. People didn't really get into it, it didn't gain any traction. Wizards of The Coast if they have the rights need to do a re-write based on the D&D5e rules set maybe.
Deep rabbit hole to start down. EPT is easy enough to deal with (and easily bought on DTRPG) but then there's all the other versions of RPGs and minis games set in Tekumel to look at. What are we up to, seven or eight "official" rule sets now and who knows how many fan efforts? Only settings I can think of that even come close to matching it in terms of depth of content are Glorantha, Harn, and maybe Traveller.
There's a traditional roguelike on steam called Caves of Qud I've been pretty into for years, and I had heard a handful of people point out that it's heavily inspired by Gamma World so I finally just recently went and found the rulebook for 4th edition Gamma World and am planning to do a small campaign with friends in it. I really love the setting and just how wild it is. I'd love to see you do more videos talking about GW modules, seems like it's not very well known, and it's hard to find a lot of youtube videos about it.
Inclined to agree about Errol's artwork, and let me add that if you like those bugs, Interloper makes minis of them: interloperminiatures.com/mini_tax/termites/ Kind of awesome for scratching that nostalgia itch.
This module is so classically Gygax that it is the GW equivalent of The Keep on the Borderlands ... in almost every way. I love this module!
Agree with that assessment. If GW has a "Keep" this is it.
Absolutely true. This is classic Gygax.
This is my 2nd favorite Gamma World module, behind The Cleansing War of Garick Blackhand!

So true!!
Ditto too. The androids were so cool and sparked my imagination like the Terminator movie did for cyborgs.

I had to go check. I have Legion of Gold GW1, two copies of The Mind masters GW4, Gw3 and GW10.
Might have to take another look at Gamma World😁

How awesome would it be to create a world with your dad (who just happens to the greatest worldbuilder of all time!)
Who are the Legion of Gold
Your intro music is so epic. Please never change it.
You're not the only one who thinks so. I would have a revolt on my hands if I tried. lol

How about Albuquerque Starport
Excellent! Another Gamma World effort!
Cover to the Queen of the Demonweb Pits was by Jim Roslof, not Willingham. His sig is in the lower right corner.
yes, yes, i don't know what i was thinking there.

Miss Gamma World. Would even play MCC if the option were available
