Is Living on Roosevelt Island Actually...Terrible?
Вставка

- Come see what Roosevelt Island is really like and learn about its history. Do you think it's worth living there relative to the rest of Manhattan?
Roosevelt Island is the only place I would live on if I had to live in NYC again
Thanks for the info. When I visited Roosevelt Island (by Tram) three years ago there were no CitBikes on the Island. I was forced to walk around the island. Good to see CitiBikes in the background of some of your shots. Also, I was told that a lot of UN staffers live on that island... due to close proximity and reasonable rents...
Yup! Also lot's of Cornell people now due to the new campus!
Y would u not want to chill in a quiet area like that. Especially if you’re not a guy that often goes to bars and stuff like that. Chill and quiet is my vibe, if I ever had to live in NYC for some reason, then I’d deff live on that island.
You didn't say or show anything about Cornell Tech campus.
Based on this video that I saw I think you are too opinionated, Manhattan lifestyle is different from RI.
Unfortunately you are misrepresenting the commute time from upper Manhattan into midtown/lower Manhattan. It takes ~20-40 minutes from any train station from the north tip of Manhattan to reach Midtown.
Roosevelt Island is served poorly by public transportation, and the F train only takes you to Lexington Ave... and the F train has currently suspended regular service to Roosevelt Island and only serves it by a shuttle train every 20 mins. Hardly convenient and is is not truly "connected" into Midtown... Lexington and 63rd is basically the Uppper East Side.
Roosevelt Island rent prices (700sqft) average at the 3k range while Upper Manhattan/Harlem rent is still in the higher 2k.
So the commute time is comparable/more connected from Upper Manhattan areas and the rent is cheaper than Roosevelt Island.
It has very nice urbanism and architecture, especially the brutalist buildings. A sweet little NYC utopia, that is livable.
Says he can't get a pizza, then walks right by a pizzeria... :P
Fair xD
This is very interesting, cool video :)
Another awesome vlog !!
⭐⭐⭐⭐video. great work. keep them coming.
Many the signals are over 100yrs old.
Place looks super clean and quiet. I saw city bikes, perfect place!
Great video!
There is still a fire station, it's behind Manhattan Park and very active. Also, there are 5 modes of transportation. The train, tram, car, ferry, and of course bike or you can walk to Queens. As a commuter for work, I have no problem as working as far as Connecticut and getting home same day, round trip easy peasy on Roosevelt Island. Also, food wise, when you were spinning and saying there was no food? There is a cafe in the grocery store behind you as you say that - not amazing cuisine but they make fresh sushi daily and hot sandwiches FYI
Thanks for the info on the fire station! Also didn't realize there was a ferry to Roosevelt Island!
How long have you been on the island? Looking to move by March there. Wanted to know which building is best. Any recommendations?
@Amable Santana I've been here for 3 years & would recommend Riverwalk, Manhattan Park & The Octagon. The closer you are to the train the better tho. The walk to the train from the most northern tip of the island can be 15-20 mins. There is a red bus that is free and takes you from your apt to the train, vice versa (for everyone) but it doesn't run as regular as it could.

@@alyssareneefernandez2095 Thanks for your suggestions! Have you heard of The Landings apartment? Do you know anything about the buildings?
I live there and love it
Roosevelt Island is really nice but as you said it’s hard to get to by train and car. It also feels kind of like an alternate reality.
Totally agree
1:17 - The tram and the F train are not the only two bloody ways to get to Roosevelt Island. You can also ride your bike or walk from Queens, over the bridge on 36th Avenue.
Yeah Yeah enough people already corrected me lol
And to think that whole island was once wasted on poor people. The injustice of it!
Thank God justice finally prevailed.
Very cool
New York is very wealthy but the city is economically poor because the wealthy residents avoid paying taxes. Scandalous that the subway is so dangerously underfunded. Roosevelt Island seems quiet if a little dull
Subway is super extensive, but boy does it need to undergo some renovations. Roosevelt Island is super quiet!
3300 Dollars for a 700 square feet apartment? Horrendous! I pay 665 Dollars (utilities and heating included). I live in a medium-sized German city (Pop. 500,000).
It's far worse now! Now it's around $4000!
Nice tour, good to know the history as well
Ferry, Uber, Bus, some of us have cars. There is an Irish Pub and a fabulous rooftop bar. This is what we like about RI…the hidden gems that UA-camrs and tourists miss but residents love. 😅
Bus takes you around the island and citbike too
If there is a Bus, what about cabs, Uber/Lyft? And how to cars get there?
boats
@@IsraelRivera7 No ferry, right?
If you studied Econ, you should know this concept already exists as is called a Giffen good.
@@HaHa-gy5vg not quite a giffen good, but similar concept
I like the tram
0:20 its just called demand inelasticity.
Yep! The average person isn't familiar with that term though ;P
RIP Fez Whatley, one of **tard Island's finest residents.
Where is Manhaan?
Only 572 subs... keep it up. This was cool and you're bound to gather a lot more followers
573 thanks to you!
A paradise ❤❤❤
Just went to a wedding there this summer it was at a Santuary very Beautiful! There’s No parking there Very limited ❤
The falls nice but it's been a long long long long long time since I've been
Not true you can get there on the ferry
I saw one thing I like about this island: "No drones allowed!"
xD
No drones allowed when the UN has particular sessions. Drones are allowed but having an FAA permit while flying on the island is highly recommended due to its proximity next to the UN!
Starbucks etc lol
Just move to Binghamton. Super cheap.
... And far
It’s definitely NOT cheaper to live here 😂. My studio on RI was $3200 in a Related building. You’re making a really nice bougie upscale island sound like some kind of discount and that’s just not accurate but it’s your content bro. Also there’s a fire station and many eateries.

Dude there is a fire house lol it just moved. Also Central Park is. 20 min bike ride
No water taxis?
Sadly not!
That’s a lie, the ferry terminal is on the opposite side of the island from the tram and subway. The NYC Ferry Astoria route stops at Roosevelt island. Do your research!
A ferry is not the same as a water taxi lol
@@dashingelsewhere Okay... what's the difference then? You think Uber has boats? If you're referring to SPECIFICALLY the NYC Water Taxi company, you should definitely be aware that they have 10 vessels which can be privately chartered, as opposed to NYC Ferry which operates the largest fleet of passenger ferries in the United States (38 vessels) across 6 routes, connecting 25 ferry piers across all 5 boroughs. NYC Ferry is subsidized by the city, and the boats are fast.
why rent though? why not buy? i mean rent is just a waste of money when you could be building equity.
You need a loooot of $$ to buy in nyc
@@dashingelsewhere well i looked the properties on that island are just around a million bucks. so for a deposit you need a hundred grand. and if you got a ten year interest only mortgage and put the principle in an etf or perhaps crypto staking which has 30% a year return, then you could pay it off in ten years. and during that time if you rented the spare room out on airbnb that will more than cover the interest repayments. i don’t think it’s particularly difficult. 🤷♂️
@@danh5637 good point 😂
Stop shaping your fingers hahaha jkjk nice video
I hadn't even realized! 😂
Roosevelt Island is kind of like Co Op City
Like I get that its technically Manhattan, but Roosevelt Island is queens really.

Your self-entitlement and want of instant gratification is self-evident. Life owes you nothing and could care less if your arrogant self didn't exist. You would never survive if you had to do manual labor to provide for your existence.
*couldn't* care less
Oh man! You took the words out of my mouth! Except you didn’t because I’m not a pathetic person who needs to put others down to make myself feel better. Or do I? Next time you feel like writing something nasty, maybe take a sip of water instead? Hydration is sooo important hun
why cant you just take the bridge its obvious
It doesnt have an exit on the bridge. Koch bridge aldo known as 59th stbridge goes from 59th st to queens LIC/ASTORIA
So full of falsities and opinions
Stop ruining my favorite place.
😅
