    Nice info, safety is the number 1 thing to prioritize before booking a flight. Could you do a separate video on transportation. Taxi & uber etc

    • @RyanFila
      @RyanFila  2 роки тому +3

      I think transportation would be a good topic for Colombia! I don't know if I'll be able to do one right now about it, but I appreciate you putting suggestions on this. Have you found it tough to find info on that?

      @@RyanFila I didn't really search for it before posting the message. Just liked how you break things down.
      I've been to many countries in Asia & a few of the taxi drivers tend to try to take advantage of foreigner's so would be great if you have a quick guide or mention it briefly in a future video.

    Oh, I fogot to suggest, always do Uber, is safer, cleaner and more economic. And remember to play as co-pilot. 😉

    Is it safe for a woman to travel there solo?

    • @RyanFila
      @RyanFila  2 роки тому +1

      Yes, and it's up to you. That's a hard thing for me to tell you "absolutely, do it!" Because it really depends on your comfort level, awareness, and experience traveling. You know? I think Colombia is definitely safe to travel as a solo woman, I met many of them doing it, but again it depends on the individual.

    LOL - I need to comment - I will start with a comment to your point number 5 -
    First I have to tell you, I am over 60 yo and from Denmark, there is a little more citizens in Denmark as there is in greater Medellin, so back to commenting -
    5: When I first told my sister I wanted to visit Medellin, she was screaming scared and told me she would not come and collect my corpse - funny thing is if I had told I wanted to visit Wasington DC she would have had a long list of thing to see LOL
    4: Yes, thats right - I stayed up in the north of Medellin just 4 km out of Bello, 400 meters over central Bello , we had clear water at best once a week, rest of the time it was tinted. You could shower and brush your teeth bot never drink it. Golden rule - any water in the nature that is not melting water from a stream and still belove 10 degree centigrade must be boiled (boiling) for at least 5 minutes.

    Follow up Ryan. OK so I went and didn't feel safe as a solo traveler man. It is a different safety issue vs Europe. After 10 yrs of travel, I have NEVER been warned so much to be safe in Bogota, Not to go out after dark, not to go to clubs alone. It was so much that it FKed with my head man. I did enjoy Medellin because I connected with a friend there. I was disappointed man. Love the country but the warnings were non stop from locals, the hotel staff, the Ubers, anyone. In fact I almost got robbed in my hotel. I posted a video about my experience on my channel. Thanks for the good words Ryan tho.

    • @RyanFila
      @RyanFila  Рік тому +1

      Hey my friend! I'm sad to hear about your personal experience and issues there. It is certainly different than Europe and has different aspects to be aware of. I'm glad you enjoy Medellin and connected with a friend. Thanks for your feedback!

      @Sam-ys6iw Рік тому +2

      Totally understandable. I got moved to Manila in the Philippines for work for 3 years and did no research prior, had warnings etc when i was there but never had any issues. If i had read bogs about it before i went my god i would never have set my foot in that city haha. I loved Medellin also, i never felt in danger but saying that, i have colombian friends who guided me on the right way to behave, dress etc.
      Also, Bogota is a different animal, i have friends born and bred there who advised me not to go, even if i do go ' i HAVE TO stay in Zona t for my safety ' no thanks ill just skip the whole city lol
      One thing is for sure, you went and did it !!! most people freak themselves out by reading too much and watching scary things about places. You deserve a MASSIVE congratulations for actually going!!!

      hmmm I dunno if that's how I'd phrase it, but having city street smarts definitely helps! If you're aware in group situations you'll be good for sure. If you're ignorant to travel, city, or movement you just gotta catch up your awareness. 😂

    I've been considering visiting Columbia for a while, and appreciate your vids about your experience! I was curious what your thoughts about the U.S. state department's advisory against traveling to Columbia due to "terrorism, civil unrest and kidnapping"? I'm definitely skeptical of media caricatures of traveling to different countries, but I took some pause from it just because its more difficult to understand where the state department's advisory might be coming from, or if there was anything to it. But it seems like your experience is recent enough, that I can't imagine anything much might have changed since that time.

    • @RyanFila
      @RyanFila  2 роки тому +3

      I would say it depends on your travel experience. But, if you stay to the cities and tourist areas you'll be good. The state advisory is a bit extreme in my opinion, but I don't like to advise people too far outside of their own travel comfort zone. Push yourself a bit, but be aware 😊
