    8 weeks 14 pounds, but disabled, due to stroke - can't move left side of body easily anymore. So losing weight without exercise more tricky but good so far. Keto is certainly helping me. I found it so easy to remove sugars and carbs from diet. :)

      Unkindnessof Ravens I started the process while in restriction due to knee surgery. I went through periods of time where weight was constant for long periods but I could tell my body was changing. Then more weight would come off. Patience. If everything I just said is BS to you because you have waited already; review the foods and look for carbs leaking in, low salt intake, and low fats intake. If your average glucose is low (IMO, less than 90-95, but that’s MY number), your body is just changing and adapting. I dropped my first ~45lbs without exercise and just 18:6 and clean keto. After that, another 15-25lb on mixtures of OMAD, 16:8, 1-3 day fasts, and bad eating through the holidays.

      @@AtTheLake91 Oh Raven, I'm so sorry to hear this because I really do know how you feel. I know how sometimes no matter what you do, you don't lose weight - yet others who eat less do lose weight. I can't claim to have gone far but I'm being weighed again on April 29 in the local hospital, when they check and measure me for lymphedema pressure garments - knee high sox - to help my lymphatic system to drain toxins from my body. I'm losing very slowly but I am happier than I've been in years (I was deeply unhappy, miserable until I started keto.) My mood has changed to, before I felt everything was hopeless. I had had to move to the countryside and live in an annexe above my sister's and her husband's house - as I need help with movement/leaving the house, due to the stroke. All these are regular side effects of a keto diet: weight loss, improved mood, clearer skin, insulin control - take a look for benefits of keto diet on the net!
      I found after a couple of weeks of being in ketosis I was never hungry. So that helped. What I do now, which I learned in the last couple of weeks, is to not eat when I get up (intermittent fasting), just have black coffee or tea. Then I have lunch around 1 or 2pm, when I start to feel "a bit peckish). Of course, that might not be suitable/possible for you, but you could experiment with timings and meals. I find it is really helping me to avoid eating when I'm not hungry.
      Also, due to the stroke, the only time I am mobile is when I go to a weekly 45 minute chair pilates class for people who have physical disabilities. Though yesterday I felt so motivated that I did 16 minutes walking on my treadmill burning 40 calories and walking 650 metres which is about .38 of a mile - just over a third - not a huge amount but normally I don't go anywhere without my stick and then it's more like 3 minutes walking. I would be very happy to speak with you more about what I eat, how I'm doing with the diet and keto, if you are interested. I do try to limit what I eat, for example, for lunch today I had 2 rashers of fried bacon, and a sliced avocado. I find it hard to keep up the keto fats but it has to be done. And this evening I am having Chicken Divin which is chicken, broccoli and a creamy garlic-y sauce. If you are not on a keto diet do please try it. I had no problem removing all sugars from my diet, though some do. It's so worth it. After about a month or so you not only start losing weight you also seem to tone up and notice body shape improvements. Here's another odd point, you have to have plenty of salt - the pink himilain stuff - for a keto diet. Do you get advice is possible from a keto knowing doctor as a regular one will just tell you it's too risky to do keto - but here in the UK the government is now looking at keto as the best way forward to lose weight healthily! Best of luck to you. By the way, for a friendly and simple approach to keto follow Dr.Berg's channel, he's great. You could also try Thomas DeLauer's site, while good he is a bit wordy and likes his technical info but I do recommend both.

    Great info from Dr.McDaniel and glad he wasn't trying to hawk us into buying another book. So, people, please stop throwing your money away on "keto" books. Most of them are filled with complicated recipes. There are a lot of people on UA-cam that have real-life information to share. I don't count macros, don't keep a daily journal, never bought a ketosis stick and didn't download any confusing apps on my cell phone. Read the carbs on the label and you're done.

Your no nonsense no hype approach is the only way to change long term. Ordinary people can’t keep up a “Frantic” diet and/or exercise approach for long term, and therefore ultimately relapse. I am around your age, I have a lot of weight to loose. I am twice the man and half the man I used to be. The only time I feel like how a thin person feels is when I’m restricting carbs. Normal hunger, clarity of mind, not food obsessed, etc. I am just beginning (again) and I have a long way to go, but trying to concentrate on today, thanks for the help! Good luck with your quest!

    Thanks for your excellent and encouraging presentation. Totally agree that if it’s too complex or too expensive, it’s not sustainable for most of us. Keep it simple: for me, forget ketones, blood tests, urine sticks etc and just avoid sugars, carbs, fat bombs, snacking and all so-called keto friendly substitutes (eg nut flour keto breads, cakes) eat protein with it’s own fat, green leafy vegetables, eat only when hungry til you’re full then stop, learn to listen to your body; it knows what it needs. Still not easy and I’m constantly learning but it’s a journey and this video really helps. Thanks.

    I was a vegetarian from the age of 18 for more than 25 years then got heart disease, despite my lower than average total cholesterol levels, being a non-smoker, a bit on the skinny side and extremely physically active. My life changed when I discovered Barry Groves (Eat Fat Get Thin) and I spent many years researching atherosclerosis. To cut a very long story short, I've found that the best way to discover whether you are in ketosis or veering off the right (biochemical) path is to monitor you triglyceride:HDL ratio every few months. The is one of the most significant medical discoveries ever in my opinion and is the most powerful predictor of heart disease known (ignore total cholesterol and LDL levels as they are completely irrelevant). The most important thing is 1) as high a level of HDL as you can manage (to achieve this, you must consume quite a lot of saturated fat such as butter, cheese, cream etc but even olive oil and coconut oil will help) 2) quit EVERYTHING with sugar and drastically reduce ALL forms of carbohydrates to maintain a low triglyceride level - the lower the better. A trig:HDL ratio less than 2.0 is recommended and with my high fat/carb free diet I often hit around 0.4. When I first presented with heart disease my ratio was above 6.0 even though my total cholesterol was much lower than average. Guess what? After 14 drug free years on my new diet, I lapsed sufficiently (dropped my guard) and my trig:HDL ratio again went above 6.0 resulting in a heart attack. Never again. That's when I discovered the simple and cheap way of monitoring whether one is on the right biochemical path by regularly measuring the trig:HDL ratio. (Incidentally, if your results are in mmol/l, as in the U.K, then you have to convert it to mg/dl using on online converter.)

    I think an alternative focus for the keto diet is to not treat it as a weight loss process, but as a blood sugar control regime. Get people to not check their ketones, but the Blood Sugar whilst on the diet, so they can see what foods do, and they can learn how to eat keep blood sugar under control...weight loss will then become a side affect.

    • @winskelv
      @winskelv 5 років тому +2

      Akane Cortich if ketones are normal or highish, insulin and blood glucose and are in good range, unless the person is taking mct oil or exogenous ketones
      high blood and high insulin = no ketones

    • @akanecortich8197
      @akanecortich8197 5 років тому +7

      @@winskelv the reason for a blood glucose focus is that is easier to monitor, and regardless of ketone levels the benefit is as great, and is likely to be closer to or over 0.5 BHB because of it. Blood sugar spikes/insulin spikes are the primary cause of most disease as they create a systemic inflammation. Controlling blood sugar can be said to be anti inflammatory in comparison to the usual diet. People find it hard to maintain weight loss diets, no matter the type if they cant readily see results. The beauty of BG monitoring is that you can check many times a day...and you learn what certain foods do. Thus that bun you want to eat...reminds you of a BS spike of 9.0 or so.. Now ketosis is anti inflammatory to a greater level because blood sugars are under control and it creates greater efficiency in muscle metabolism, whilst decreasing the efficiency of fat metabolism thereby fat requiring greater energy..thus more energy burnt. Keto diets now being used to treat cancer related cachexia which results in catastrophic muscle wasting and is the usual cause of death from cancer. Medicinal ketosis decreases that systemic inflammation caused by cancer metabolism. But my point is, for the prurpose of weight loss some people might benefit from a blood sugar focus than a weight/scale focus. In fact it would be a better learning process for them in the future as they can see the real evidence of what some foods actually do to them. cheers

    Added tip. When you first do keto you can lose a lot of fluid, and that means Na salt, and K Potassium. And if at the beginning you do keto too hard for a while you could put yourself into hypokalemia especially if you are exercising a lot and sweating. You need to add potassium, such as a Lite salt, which is 50% potassium salt. 67 yrs old. After 6 weeks, -35 lbs. So far my A1C went from 7.4 to 6.0, my cholesterol from 212 to 115, my fasting BS went from 150 to 88, I have LOTS of energy and my stress and anxiety levels are so low now that I can actually leave the house without my Service Dog sometimes. After all of this, my Reg Dietician still focuses on Keto not being sustainable, in her view. She even handed me the dreaded "plate" graphic of what we are supposed to eat to make the corn, soy, and sugar farmers happy...not to mention the pharmaceutical companies. There is absolutely ONE reason that Keto fails. The person doing Keto makes a decision to go back to the old way of eating. Sadly its the American way. I want what I want, when I want it. If "they" can have it, I want it too.

I've not felt this great in a few years. My blood pressure is down my cholesterol has dropped from 6 to 2.25, my bp was regularly around 180/150 and is now more like 120/80 which is the UK's healthy recommendation. :)

    Great video towards individuals to take responsibility for there health. This video should be the nucleus used against the universal health care for all discussions promoted by governments all over the world.I personally don't want to pay higher taxes or higher premiums for a health care system that promotes or allows individuals to not take responsibility for there health.There has to be a line drawn between, self induced and pre existing conditions.

    • @Stanb662000
      @Stanb662000 5 років тому +5

      i think you've missed the point of a universal health care system. It is there for everybody when they need it, and when managed properly can actually cut out a lot of waste (i live in a country where we have a universal basic healthcare system - it saved my life on a couple of occasions, and at one stage worked for the organisation managing it) . I think your attitude towards self induced and pre-existing conditions has issues too - how can you deny a person healthcare because they were born with a condition? how can you deny a person healthcare because they followed misleading guidelines or weren't educated in what was good or bad for them, or simply could afford the healthier choices?
      Sure, people should take responsibility for their health.. but government also has a role to play - and not simply supporting the big businesses behind it at the expense of the people who cant afford it as seems to be the case in the USA ( oh and BTW, contrary to what the current leadership of the USA says, its not exactly socialism looking out for the little people in your society either)

      @@mntngirl4512 I dont dispute that a healthy diet, and LCHF certainly seems to fit into that category will reduce the need for medical assistance however I disagree that costs are way cheaper. - for my own history over the last 20 years I have had 3 medical interventions that in the later 2 cases I simply could not have afforded if it wasn't for our medicare system. The first was a case of pneumonia. 3 courses of Antibiotics at a subsidized rate cured that one. The second was a car accident where i crushed a vertebrate... 3 weeks hospitalization, multiple Xrays, MRIs etc, surgery from one of the finest neuro surgeons in town to put $40000 worth of metal work to hold it all together, and 12 months of physio, and the op to remove said metal work all at $0 direct costs
      and 4 years ago had an abscessed tooth that was dong its best to kill me - a week in hospital ( 36 hours of which was under unaesthetic, and involved a airbourne transfer between hospitals) , the op to remove said tooth and be pumped full of antibiotics, and follow ups again all at $0
      all this has cost me is an extra 2% on my income tax .
      Can you understand now why everybody who lives under schemes like this looks at the USA and shakes their head in disbelief at the opposition to any public health scheme?

      @@mntngirl4512 I can see its very hard for someone who hasnt experienced a universal medicare system to see the advantages - the healthcare available here is anything but mediocre, tho waiting times for elective surgery is always a political hot potato, anything potentially life threatening is treated immediately. Its not a perfect system by any means , but it does have the advantage of making healthcare available to those who cannot afford private cover ( which is also available).
      I cant dispute that government should do way more reduce the crap the food industry puts out - it can be done ( here in Aus its been done wth tobacco - a single cigarette costs over $1 - with a packt of cheap 30s costing $35 or more theres a big financial incentive to give up ). Until organisations such as the AHA ( and the international organisations that follow its guidelines) recognize that the advice they have been giving has caused more illness than its stopped nothings is going to change. Sadly, I Think these industry funded organisations are going to follow the pattern set by the tobacco and fossil fuel industries.. and go down fighting

    Low-carb, ketogenic, meat-based, etc diets have been used by doctors for centuries to treat obesity and diabetes, starting at least in the 1700s. Such diets remained within the mainstream until the fear-mongering shifted into high gear in the '60s and '70s. Up to the point of the new 1980 high-carb and low-fat USDA recommendations, scientific conferences regularly had speakers on low-carb and such. Then all opposing voices were almost fully silenced by the 1990s after the consensus conference.

      One will naturally be in ketosis if carbs are kept to 25 total or less for at least a week. Once you are efficiently burning fat and ketones, there won't be any residue showing up in your urine or blood, so it's hard to judge if one is in ketosis or not. But if you're not very hungry, if you feel good, if you're not eating carbs.. you're in ketosis.

    Been already a month. No weight loss, probably because I still struggle with binge eating a lot and although I haven't binged in carbs, it's still something that happens frequently. I dont get hungry and yet I binge, due to habit I guess. Anyone else experienced this?

    • @neptronix
      @neptronix 5 років тому +3

      In my experience, you won't lose any weight eating more calories than you need, even with the metabolic advantage that keto gives. Keto will shield you from the negative effects of your binge eating, as long as you're within the range of carbs your body likes ( 20g a day is kind of a gold standard ).
      You solved one problem with keto, but you're still looking down the barrel of another. You may want to try some different approaches with your eating. Particularly, ones that are structured, like intermittent fasting.

      Eat more fat and leafy greens. If you're gorging yourself on lean meats, you're not going to get satiated and all the protein is gonna start to act like sugar once the liver processes it, then your pancreas will release insulin and it'll be like you're eating carbs all over again.(gluconeogenesis) Eat the leafy greens/cruciferous veg for volume sake. you're not gonna be able to binge on that unless you want your stomach to explode.

First is acknowledging theres a problem :) you can try different things like eating salads to stretch your stomach while increasing fats. Never eat more than 3x a day. Never drink your calories unless it is a meal in itself but advise against it. No fat bombs of fatty keto coffee. Stick below 20 total carbs. Avoid bars and almond flour goods. I would make a ketorade and when i felt emotional Id drink til my stomach was full. It takes 3.mins for our brain to get over it so distract yourself. Shower, brush teeth, anything. Even an elastic band around the wrist can help.

      Garth Burnett the smoothies may be the cause of your problem. Two reasons, fruit is high in carbs even if you are eating low carb fruit, secondly, blending them destroys the fiber and releases all the sugar thereby causing more sugar to be absorbed. Cut out the smoothies and see how that goes.

    Ketones from Urine is not indicative of ketosis, it only appears in urine as an over flow of ketones at the beginning of the ketone diet, and then will decline. The only measure of on going ketosis is blood ketones..via a small hand held ketone moniter. People are going to be disappointed if they rely on urine analysis, which also measures a different type of ketone.

    • @michaelsiddle837
      @michaelsiddle837 5 років тому

      Akane Cortich of course ketones in the urine are absolutely indicative of ketosis,It is the absence of ketones in the urine which is not indicative of ketosis or otherwise, which is what I think you meant to say . A ketone blood monitor is useful but get one that also measures glucose because that will help you determine what causes your insulin to spike

    I have watched a lot of keto presentations in the last few months and this is the first time I have had a presenter say this is a reduced calorie diet. I still think a person can eat too many calories by ignoring the feeling of satiety. I watched Dr. Berry yesterday and he hinted or suggested to overeat on this diet. I'm not sure that is true but I am glad to hear from this Dr. that it is a reduced calorie diet.
    What happens if you eat too much on this diet? Anyone know?

    • @AdaptYourLife
      @AdaptYourLife  4 роки тому

      William Branham thanks for your comment. Calories definitely matter. Weight loss is achieved because this way of eating causes a natural calorie deficit. Hunger goes away. Consuming too many calories will ultimately lead to weight gain.

That's not science, it's fraud! It also came out soon after his death, that he took a $2000 bribe (equivalent to $100,000 in today's money) from The Sugar Industry of America to exonerate sugar as the cause of obesity and heart disease. Parallels with the climate change scam are obvious.

    Why is Atkins censored?

    • @endstage
      @endstage 5 років тому +1

      Not sure. Maybe because his method wasn't entirely the right approach? Dr Atkins was largely correct but his main mistake was to assume that protein is broken down by fatty acid metabolism (it isn't) and just concentrated on avoiding sugars/carbs. To maintain ketosis one must have a greater fat intake than both protein and carbs combined.
