I was at this show. My expectations were low. I didn't expect an 81-year-old cancer survivor to be able to scream like he used to. He opened with "Agnes" and I found out right away, he's still got it! I was so impressed with him and the rest of the band. If you have the opportunity, go see him!
I know Donnie and have worked with him before. He is very strong spirited man. He played in the theatre I work in as home base last weekend in Wheeling WV.
This man was responsible for the soundtrack of my youth twice. Once in the early 70s and especially in the 80s when he ruled on my turntable. Part of me cries with joy that he is still looking and sounding so great, while part of me cries because I know he will never visit my city to perform as I am in flyover country. Even though two of his lesser known songs were hits in my area ("You're Only Dreaming" and "Do You Compute"). This man is in better shape than I am as I can't even travel due to being handicapped. So that leaves me with one wish and that he somehow reads this message and knows I will forever be grateful for the music.
I've said it before and I will say it again. This is REAL music. REAL people playing REAL instruments. That's why ANY music from the 70s-80s is FAR superior than any music today.
I met Donnie Iris and his wife at a Little River Band concert here in Las Vegas. What a really nice guy he was. We had a brief conversation about music and the industry. The guy still looks & sounds fantastic!!! God Bless brother!!!
Holy sh**! I would have put him at 65....like me! And still has the young voice and screams! WAY TO GO Donny!!! What is your secret to lookin' so great at 81 man?? I want some of that!!
Love Is Like a Rock was pretty big. I loved this song also though. Used to play in club bands back then. I'm not far from the area he is from. I work in live entertainment and have worked with him before along with a lot of the Pittsburgh area rockers and there were lot's of them. The Silencers, B.E. Taylor, he passed a few3 years back sadly. The list goes on.
I had the privilege to assist Michael Barbiero during the mixing of Donnie's KING COOL album at MEDIASOUND STUDIOS NYC. The tracks were amazing with Marc Avsec's brilliant production/arrangements. I still cherish the experience and have a warm spot in my heart for this record - On top of that, they couldn't have been a nicer bunch! Thanks for the great music.
When this was released a local radio station played this album in it's entirety. I went to my friends house and we listened to it and it was truly a great record. I was really impressed and kinda surprised I liked every song on it. So glad I watched this video tonight. Blows me away. I'm 59yo and was in my late teens(?) when this came out. He needs to write a book telling his "secrets" to living a long, rockin' life! He sounds AWSOME at 81 years old. Thanks for sharing this video👍
Great performance! Kudos to the guitar player....Great tone similar to original track. I've seen multiple performances of this song and the guitar has varied.
@solitaire5142 sorry, but you are wrong on this one. Being wrong in a situation like this isn't a big deal. I've been doing this my entire life, and it's easy to tell when something sounds exactly like the recording from 1980.
@solitaire5142 they are not live. There is no way that a few backup singers are going to sound exactly like the album that had at least 6 to 8 harmony tracks. Go listen to the 1981 live version. That is a real example of what 3 backing vocals sounds like.
I lived in Ohio about 16 years ago and as a composer got to know Mark Avsec (by phone) and get some legal advice. If I remember correctly they were sued for copyright infringement over Ah Leah! essentially costing them any royalties. He was so upset he became intellectual property attorney because of it!
Background chorus vocals most likely are pre recorded tracks because there are more voices than are singing, but Donnie is still hanging in there pretty good for his age for sure
My daughter recently graduated from Slippery Rock When she was still a student there I told her Donnie Iris was a graduate and she had no idea who he was but looked up his songs and became a fan.
@thatsmrkeith yeah, but there is always those people that believe stuff like this is actually live and they give me a hard time for pointing out the truth.
Same with MrMr's KYRIE, only a few shows exist where the booming chorus is not there, (played live to a track to allow everything to line up) Warrant got away with this for ages, their drummer always had an ear piece and always played to a click - an audio tape was used in the 80s ! I saw them back then and was amazed at the perfection and power of the choruses, I was fooled !

"Flyover country" is the heart and soul of America!
Wow he’s 81 and still kills it - fucking amazing. I’m super impressed especially with the terrible acts we see today

Wow!! You rock Donnie! 81 years old amazing!!
Have to admit he sounds a LOT better than many of his “younger” counterparts.
Such a great song! Timeless.
Donnie is amazing for his age. He really never got the acclaim he deserved.
Damn sounds great…and the backing vocals are also really excellent. Cool!

Simply killing it at nearly 82 years old, wow! GREAT!

I'm actually having all my equipment put in a crypt with me. I'll rock for ever to bro !!!

One of my absolute most favorite songs! Still gives me cold chills!!!!
I met Donnie Iris and his wife at a Little River Band concert here in Las Vegas. What a really nice guy he was. We had a brief conversation about music and the industry. The guy still looks & sounds fantastic!!! God Bless brother!!!
Incredible to still hit those high notes at that age.......
Wow! And that a capella ending. Holy cow!
Damn, he is still killing it!!! Plus the band he has backing him, arent no slouches either. Props to the drummer,he nailed all the parts!!👏👏👏
Here, as a Leah, to give my stamp of approval.
Ah Leah. Lookin' better than...
unbelivable thats he's 81
Donny Iris 81. Jon Anderson 79. Jeff Lynne 76. All singing in stellar form.
….and he just recovered from cancer not too long ago.
Music and performing keeps him relevant...and young!
*_No doubt!_*
Hell, I'm not going to live that long, man. Played drums for 30yrs, enjoyed myself too long.
Outstanding. Back when real artists had real talent and made REAL music.
Incredible performance by the whole band. Wow!
81 years old and still has better chops than most rock vocalists now 💯🔥♥️👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼🙂👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Keyboardists left hand is an amazing BG vocalist!😂👍

Love this song! He hit the notes too! Dang, if I got down on my knees like that I would never get back up, lolol.
Wow! I wish I had a chance to see him in person. Damn, 81 and still rockin' out.
2024 and he’s still perfect!!!!
Holy sh**! I would have put him at 65....like me! And still has the young voice and screams! WAY TO GO Donny!!! What is your secret to lookin' so great at 81 man?? I want some of that!!
Amazing vocals by Donnie! Great performance by all!
Keep Rockin' Donnie !
I’m blown away. They absolutely nailed it! I have always loved that song. Fantastic job!
81.... Music isn't slowed-down, dropped a key, autotuned.... 1000% dig it!!!!!!!!
Holy smokes! 🔥 🤘🏼 Amazing still…even at 81! Go Donnie and boys!
Incredible performance Mr. Donnie Iris.
Like a fine glass of wine brother man👊 4:43
Wow, still awesome! 😎

Man, no matter the generation, Donnie Iris is enjoyed by all!
This is one of those TIMELESS songs.. NO MATTER WHAT DECADE OR GENERATION

I always liked this song, but I never knew who sang it! That dude is 81 years old! Absolutely amazing🤘❤
Check out THE RAPPER by The Jaggerz. That’s him as well
@@johncronk3939 now I have to! 😂
@@johncronk3939 another song I thought was cool. Never heard of them either and I consider myself a music guy🤡
Damn that was good!
The backing vocals were spot on !!
The keyboard guy is playing the recorded vocals with his left hand on the top keyboard.
I remember the night on the town when I bought this 8-Track! I’d like to hear a 5-Finger Death Punch remake! Rock on Donnie!!
Wow.... At 81 years old. Still sounds decent! I hope I age as well as him.
Donnie the Legend is 81 freaking years old!
right? he still sounds great and looks healthy
Great Donnie you still got it bro
I’ve always loved this song.

You go, good sir.

Yeah.! I thank everyone that posts the most recent performances.. I'm a new fan and i am loving it.
Great performance! Kudos to the guitar player....Great tone similar to original track. I've seen multiple performances of this song and the guitar has varied.
Pretty dang close to the record. Pretty amazing!
I saw a video from many years earlier, I suspected his voice was good.He is Great! nailed all the sounds , tones and that powerful voice
what a fucking legend. unbelievable he can still wail that good.
Damn! Donnie's best song. What a soldier...
God bless you Donnie.
Great song! Didn't know he was still out and about.
He's still got it!
Hell yeah!!! That intro gave me chills. Let's not even mention those perfect harmonies. Get it, Donnie! ❤
Those backing harmonies are definitely piped in. Those are not live.
@@whataboutrob442 Wrong. That is Talent, something sorely missing these days.

Thank You Mark Avsec for writing this kick-ass tune.
Met him at a Bucs game years ago....just the nicest guy in the stadium that day
One of the best.
It sounds great
Incredible
Holy shit! Awesome!!!!

He's adding some recorded background vocals I think but he still sounds great singing the verses. An all time 80's great song!
Dang, sounds good
This cooks 🔥
Very nice!
Background chorus vocals most likely are pre recorded tracks because there are more voices than are singing, but Donnie is still hanging in there pretty good for his age for sure
Yeah, I think the keyboard player is triggering them.
Love the song…total one hit wonder
My daughter recently graduated from Slippery Rock When she was still a student there I told her Donnie Iris was a graduate and she had no idea who he was but looked up his songs and became a fan.
THANK YOU !!!
Holy crap, Dawneeeeeee!
Rock on Donnie !!!
I forgot about Donnie until I ran across this video.
background vocal on point
Kickass!!!❤
The backing vocals sound like the stufio track. Impressive.
You spelled backing tracks and lip syncing wrong!😂
They're sampled. Watch the keyboard player's left hand.
Nailed it
Those backing vocals are definitely piped in. I'm not taking away from the overall performance, but no way they would sound exactly like the record.
I was thinking the same thing

This is a great party song. Is that Paul Simon on the bass?
Always loved this song. What’s odd is the dude is in cargo shorts. They looks like a cover band in a HS gym. He can hit those notes still. Dang.
