Definitely recommending this to first timers.
I have stayed everywhere except Hilton, and did Hotel Indigo its first year. We’re back at the Sheraton this year, and we hope to make this permanent. (LOVE the pool!)

Great info, we’ve been going 12yrs now and to us it’s our extended family reunion (sometimes dysfunctional) but we love everyone there!

For the panels if you are staying in a host hotel you get DragonCon TV and some panels you can watch from your room. Have done this many times especially if they are very early panels and I get get ready while watching the panel.
Right-o! Those early panels can getcha... so... watching from the comfort of your... comforter is the best while still recovering from the day/night before!

Remember that DC is fan run con not a corporate con like SDCC which makes it even better. It is 24 hours a day for 4 days

I love seeing married couples that come off like besties. This was fun. First time back since 2019 and I'm in a host hotel so I'm stoked.
That's probably one of the most genuine thing anyone has said to us. Sincerely appreciate it! We really are, no lie, but it wasn't without work and now, we're loving the adventure. Enjoy the host hotel! Which one did you get?

Yup, that's the only Host Hotel we managed to score one year. We liked it, but our crew grew to 7 and it was just more economical for us to Airbnb it. You're absolutely right how chill it is. My (witch) favorite party is at the Westin on Thursday night - the 8-Bit Bash is so much fun and we almost always close it down! :) We will be cosplaying "What we do in the shadows" meets the 80's that night! :)
Extroverts: you will find friends. Introverts: uh Hunh.
Buy your badge as early as possible. Also, they don’t sell them at the Con anymore. It will be hot. If you do panels, you will spend hours in the sun. Host hotels are very hard to get into. You will see cosplay every where. Learn where the habitrails are, they are usually air conditioned. The main facilities will have water available everywhere.
The lanyard works fine, but you generally want to zip tie your badge to the lanyard so it’s harder to come off. You lose the badge, there’s no replacement. App is up now.
Gil Gerard does not teach yoga. Erin Gray teaches Tai Chi, but it’s an extra charge.
The largest panels do get filled up and not let additional people in. That is not uncommon for the biggest names.
If you meet celebrities away from panels and the WoF, read the room. Don’t expect that they will stop what they are doing for them. They may be off duty or on their way to something.
Ain't nobody told me there was a nightmare of a line for the elevators to get to your room if you stay in a host hotel. I thought we were paying for convenience?! Yikes, that inconvenience makes the rooms worth about $300 tops. I see people taking the stairs and they stay on the 10th floor. People must not know or they probably wouldn't pay that kind of money for such an awful experience. Those hotels should be ashamed and tell people what they're really in store for and lower the prices to compensate.
Agreed! The elevators are ridiculous and are enough to detract from booking a host hotel.
The Sheraton is now called the Courtland Grand.
Someday, we will stay there! I love the pool atrium.
