Your story is just like mines. My parents couldn’t afford to buy something like this and bought me a Nikko Turbo Panther. A friend noticed my passion for R/C and gifted a brand new Grasshopper to me. I was searching for shocks upgrades and just watched your video. Keep up the good work.
Thanks! I have been away for a while, but have another few videos coming out shortly that will focus on the DT-03. The best shock upgrade would be to do a straight swap from the Hornet or GH2. I wanted to try something a little different. I ended up using a light oil (200CST) and softer spring as well, runs much better now.
Mine didn't. My Grasshopper II Black Edition came with the standard friction shocks. I bought the DT-03 CVA shocks for it but the springs are too stiff. I used the shocks from a Yeti Jr. Can-Am and they're basically perfect.
Hello I noticed the shocks on the stock grasshopper looked a bit small so I was searching for some shocks on the internet but could only find “cheap Chinese” ones glad I found your video. Are the shocks worth buying during the kit build as i have not yet purchased the grasshopper yet and am wondering on the shocks. I am set on the grasshopper as a good second “proper” rc car after my brushed ftx Zorro as I like the retro styling-great video👍
Thanks, I've heard it pronounced a few different ways. I suppose as long as we all know what cars and brand we are talking about, that is all that matters! Thanks for watching.
Check out ampro engineering and also look into to getting grasshopper 2 suspension arms for the front you can use a CVA mini shock set in the front when you get those.
Yes, he has some fantastic material and products. I was looking as doing the front soon, so will revisit his channel again when the time comes. Thanks!
Very nice , I own 2 brand new unbuilt Candy green Grasshoppers.i got 2 because the price was great and much easier than looking for spare parts. Come on it's taken Tamiya 40 odd years to bring out the re release vintage kits.and I wasn't looking for outright outrageous speed but rather I just wanted a fun to build fun little vintage Tamiya buggy and the Grasshopper is iconic. And then the shit hit the fan . I got in trouble with my parents and cannot go back to their house to get anything. I've got quite a few RC cars but now got a apprehended violence order meaning I can't go to get any belongings without damned cops in attendance, so am now living in a tent with nothing except my bicycle and a phone. It's because my father is a mental nasty bastard and had a psychiatric episode and I punched him out. Now heres the clincher I'm 50 years old. I've been into RC cars since I was 14 and own my first Tamiya a vintage Fox from 1987, a Hot Shot and Super Hot Shot both re release kits only 1 year old also an unbuilt Midnight Pumpkin and an unbuilt Egress black edition plus an unbuilt Avante black edition and 3 kyosho Fazer kits with 1969 Chevy Camaro body's and a Traxxas TRX 4 Ford F150 high trail. This is no joke I ain't making this up and may possibly be jailed for punching out my dad. But he was being a real bastard and really nasty , offensive and something had to be done because he was trying to start trouble. Shit isn't it. This happened on 10 August 2023 , I'm in Melbourne Australia.cops were real bastards too.💩💩🤮🤮
I am going to Hong Kong next month and they have a tamiya shop there. Any suggestions for parts numbers to get for Grasshopper and Grasshopper 2 I have both.
The shocks themselves are fantastic. I no longer run the car, as I have "upgraded" to running TLR buggies for racing. I plan to upload some new content very soon. Some Tamiya, some TLR, some modern and some vintage. How-To's of getting into racing etc.
Hey just been upgrading my rear shocks with the same Tamiya set. What made you go with the spacers inside the shocks? On the back of the pack, it shows the Grasshopper II Rear in item 3, saying 87mm and picture shows a damper end short. So when I looked at the instructions, to hit 87mm with a damper end short, it says not used in the spacer column. Did you read the same?? Also in terms of step 4 overleaf, did you attach any of the X4, X6 or X7 items?? I’ve gone for the soft springs and once hooked up to the car and under pressure they are ok. Interested to see if you go for the Tamiya kit for the front shocks, product code 50519….
I am just about to do the fronts now, I decided to go with a set of shocks from an SCX24 with a heavier fluid and I think they are going to work out perfectly!
Okay I was looking through the TS Tamiya paint to try and match I did not realize that was gold I can see that now because it's on top of a black surface so I just think it came out spectacular and if somebody wants to be a stickler that definitely is boxer

New SUb!! My car was the Rock Buster same deal though. Great video. Gald I found ya.
The Grasshopper II Black Edition includes oil-filled CVAs for the rear AND front, if one is interested. =;)

To be honest, if I were to do it all over again, I would just buy some Hornet rear shocks. They will fit the chassis better.
@@knappRC thanks for the speedy reply- appreciate the response
Proudly Made in the Philippines.
Tamiya (タミヤ, pronounced Tah-Mee-yea) has most if not all of it's kits manufactured in the Cebu, Philippines, plant.
Thanks, I've heard it pronounced a few different ways. I suppose as long as we all know what cars and brand we are talking about, that is all that matters! Thanks for watching.
@@knappRC now worries! It's possible that i might get my own grasshopper soon, have it rebuilt to running condition as well

Hope everything works out!
Your rear tires are on backward! Switch sides! I need the color you used on the front suspension. Please

So a year later how do you like them? Notice a difference? I'm thinking of getting them for my GH ..

👌🏻👌🏻✔️
What color is the front suspen?
The front A-Arms? Or the shafts? I painted them a gold and then a few layers of clear.
