Same thing happened to my nephew. 23 at the time and purchased a gen 1 lightning he asked me on my opinion and I said don't get it cause it was a basket case.he still got it paid 9,000 for it and he lost his patience with it shortly after. I ended up buying from him but took me another 2 years and 3000 bucks later to finally get it running phenomenal

I would [highly] recommend you join a forum in addition to watching these kinds of channels. Dropping a crate engine into a Fox is a weekend deal for two dudes with average mechanical ability and tools. The wiring needs to be handled like it's a new-born and the EEC needs to be sent off for recondition whether you think it needs it or not. On a side note: Blue Print engines are the hot ticket right now, IMO. They use [their own], new cast 4-bolt blocks but don't sell those blocks ala carte. It's a pretty amazing deal. Buy the engine and work out the install once it arrives. I doubt they're going to get cheaper while you wait. 😱

An engine crane with a balancer to tilt the motor, was $175 at Harbor Freight years back. A plug in/bolt in, swap is not hard. There is no one to trust with a swap. Research, plan for the known complications. Expect it to take longer and cost more than you thought. That said it should be waaaay cheaper to do for yourself. It can be easier than tearing into an engine for maintenance. Once you've swapped it, THERE IS NO ONE YOU CAN TRUST to even do simple tasks. Things changed and a regular mechanic will not know what has changed. Get a friend to help.

I've been running a Mustang forum for well over 20 years now. You get people who come into this hobby with eyes wide open and you have people that don't. There are lots of folks with zero brain pan, zero mechanical ability, zero tools and experience, and think that if they buy a Fox, it's going to somehow turn out like the ones in the magazine pages with nothing more than a trip to Autozone. 🤣😂 These are the same people that calculate their HP by adding up the gains advertised in the ads. There's nothing you can do for them. They should have bought a Honda.

The point i am trying to make is you cant expect no issues to arise from an old car if its your daily driver .You either have to be mechanically inclined to fix yourself or have the money to pay for someone else to fix it.

Funny, the car was built to be a daily. If you do not have the deposable income to pay someone else to keep it running or the ability ,equipment , and time to build and maintain the vehicles you buy. Maybe one should make better financial decisions! for the select few that can do 95% of the work ourselves. DO BECAUSE WERE ARE POOR AND THE ONLY WAY WE CAN GET THE NICE CARS IS TO BUY SOMEONE ELSE BROKEN DREAMS AND BUILD IT OURSELVES WITH HARD WORK AND SACRIFICE ! I started at age 18, buying collecting tools, cars, parts, and equipment to do what I love. I'm now 55 and have 14 projects to build, and I just finished having my shop built . I may not live long enough to build them all. In the end, we are only the care takes our cars. I like the idea that something I built will live on long after I'm gone, hopefully to be passed on to the next guardian of our car hobby! It's not the car itself , paint , chrome, engine, ect, it's the stories told and the memories made that give the car value . Keep on the road .

Then again the reason most of us older gearheads learned how to turn wrenches is out of necessity being a broke teen keeping cheap cars on the road. When your a broke kid you fix it or walk! Well we all know which option gearheads took. What is it necessity breeds ingenuity or something. If he stuck to it he would likely look back n say it was the best thing that could have happened to him he was forced to learn! But then again thinking about it why the hell are you turning innocent impressionable children onto old Ford's... Are you just plain sadistic? That's just wrong in so many ways, at least say if your under 25 n broke or don't hate yourself get a Chevy! Some people 🤪.

I’m a better than average “wrench” too and it took me a couple years to realize my mistake. Young folks gonna young folk…. You can have regrets. None of that will get your car out of dad's driveway. *It isn't hopeless, it's just hard.* You don't know what you're doing, but the good news is this is how you learn, and there's LOTS of how-to help out there. Your only option is: Take a breath, suck it up, get to work, you just might learn something.
How do I know? I was in the exact same spot when I was in high school (in the 80s). Did headers on a rusty POS torsion bar Mopar A-body (4.6 Cobra is easy by comparison). My skill level wasn't anywhere close to that job at that time and it sucked. Car apart in the driveway, taking the freaking bus to work, my dad in my ass about getting it done or hauling it off. Bad weather. 150 piece craftsman tool kit. Everyone said they told me so. No internet. Bad times. It was a rough *3 weeks*.
It was badass for high school when it was done. I've been glad ever since I didn't wimp out halfway through.

Someone show me where Caleb, or anyone else for that matter ever called these cars reliable. I'm pretty sure Caleb, and the rest of us with knowledge of fox body's say that the newest fox body's are 31 years old now, they are old technology, and that certain things like to break. As for the not knowing how to work on one. Let me just be blunt and say you have no business working on any car if you can't figure out a fox body. Sorry for the rant, but the truth is the truth, I have no reason to defend Caleb, I don't know him, but I enjoy his content that's it, but, when I hear shit like this it pisses me off

I owned and modified a 1991 GT and drove the wheels off it and it was the reliable daily driver for years and I mean years!! My only complaint or regret is that times got super hard for me and my family and I had to sell it. But at that end of the day it was one of the easiest cars to repair and modify.

Pretty weird that he spent 12k without having a mechanic take a look at the thing first. He also doesn't say what all the problems are, or why it's taken apart in his father's garage. To play devil's advocate, I will say that there are a ton of channels where they take some POS junkyard car and get the motor to run long enough to film a video and act like anyone can do it. If you're a young kid starting out, you don't necessarily know how much it actually sucks to be on your back stinking of oil and antifreeze, fighting with some rusted garbage and cursing every car engineer. You're definitely not one of those channels, but a kid who spends all day on social media might not understand that working on old cars sucks, and that it only pays off when you can finally actually drive something you built yourself.

The problem is buddy you need to do a lot of research and take things in stride. This message is to you young man if you read this you do things little by little until you get them right this is a hobby. I have one that I’ve been working on for approximately four years Right now I’m waiting on the engine because I turned it into a 347 stroker. This is an old man’s game. If your patient it would work out for you if you find people in the Mustang community around your area trust me they will drive over and help youto reach out to any Mustang club in your area that is just a tip. Don’t be discouraged. Get yourself something to get yourself to work and get at it in the end. You will appreciate the work you’ve done with your own hands.

Fox body Mustangs are probably the easiest cars to work on, that has ever rolled off a US assembly line. With a 14 year production span, factory and aftermarket parts are plentiful and cheap/cost effective. These cars were designed 100% opposite of the "planned obsolescence" mindset of today. Everything is serviceable.
Parts/items under the hood can be easily reached (plenty of room) and removed. For example, you can have the radiator out in 10 minutes. When I was in my 20's...working in tandem, me and a friend, once changed my clutch, pressure plate, and TOB in 45 minutes! Working on a Honda or Toyota is quite a bit more difficult (and you do have to work on them). I daily drove my fox body for almost two decades; owned it for 34 years. It has been far more reliable than our Honda.
Younger people today, need to learn how to fix and maintain things... learn how to do physical work/repairs. Problem is... too many kids now, have grown up playing video games or sitting in front of the computer. If it is not a click with mouse or a touch on a screen, it is too difficult and/or someone else's fault.

If u dont know these cars or cant learn these cars leave them alone. myself i know their could be rust behind tail lights ,on the bottom of doors , check the torque boxes , That the T5s are junk that came in them . The list goes on .These cars are 30yo ffs . This kid has been coddled his whole life . Hes 21 he obviously wasnt raised with no real men who taught him to work on a basic pushrod motor. Ill say wtf were all thinking
