One time my buddy and I picked up one of these old Celicas as a toy. It had been sitting for 17 years or so because it needed a starter and after we put one in it, we tried to see if it fire up on 17 year old gas and plugs and to our astonishment it ran like it never even sat other than the varnish smell.

Those old 2.2L Toyota's are awesome. I had a 93 Camry DX that finally died with over 400,000 miles and rust finally broke the subframe and that was it. Ran perfect.
Seen a 1992 camry 2.2l with 500,000miles i was amazed it still had ice cold air condition.
Ya you can make some HP with a Toyota 2.2 if your bore it and stroke it out on about 100 psi of boost you could make about 1000HP+

I don’t mean to be that guy but I actually own a 91 Celica with the 2.2 these are engines made by Toyota, Yamaha made the 7th gen engine. This Celica is an underpowered 130 HP variant. It’s not an alltrac or GT4. These are stupid reliable though.

Can confirm, I had a 93 toyota Paseo. 2nd Sorriest car I've ever owned but after 300,000 miles I was TRYING to kill it and it just wouldn't go. Ended up scrapping it because the rear hubs were seized on and more wobbly than grandpa at Thanksgiving. Thing was an absolute tank and would redline forever
I had one of those pieces of garbages ever but one overheated and it smoked like a chimany lol
