Out in the west, where many nomads like to travel, there are frequent burn bans. Bad weather and high winds also tend to force you to cook inside. That and not wanting to carry fuel in my rig or worry about C02 already had me planning to go fully electric in my rig. One more issue that propane and butane fuel users tend to overlook is the high price to purchase it in out-of-the-way locations, which means planning ahead by carrying plenty of fuel. And as COVID showed us, fuel prices can not only vary widely, but there are situations where it can simply be hoarded by everyone who is afraid there won't be any available. Going strictly electric with solar eliminates that dependency and also makes you are more ecological in your life on the road. All electric RV's are on the horizon! Thanks for the video!
Thank you! 😊 There are other awesome electrics too! I use a, "nutri bullet 900" and a small crockpot as well. There are times when I light a campfire or use my butane stove, using my cast-iron pans, ( like if I cook fish ) but you are absolutely right about burn bans, and weather!!! Thank you for commenting! Lynn (AvianMariner)
All of your points resonate with me and confirms my decision to get rid of things that call for gas. I’m planning to do van life for traveling and do so with all electric!
I normally eat salads, or thaw things that I freeze at home (like leftovers) and heat them in the hotpot. Easy is best on the road or camping! Unfortunately, I resort to a can or bag of tuna... not something people want to watch on UA-cam :) @@FORKandFIFTIES
I cook everything from scrambled eggs and pancakes to crescent rolls and chicken thighs and fresh vegetables in a rice cooker. 😊 I saw a YT where a lady baked a cake in a rice cooker 😅
I heard about the cake in a rice cooker! I want to experiment with a few different models. The next video I will share has a steamer / rice cooker. It was a bit messy to clean... probably my fault 😉 Thanks for watching ! Lynn ( AvianMariner)
I use either 1/4 of a mix ( cooks faster than a big one and is 1 serving). I use whatever liquid I feel like at the time. Sometimes I use an egg, other times not. Might use apple sauce with milk or water. Might use only water. As it bakes (maybe 7 minutes) it turns off, thinking the “rice” Is done. It must cool 1-2 minutes before you can turn it back on. This is ok, because it stays hot and bakes. You must sit nearby and keep turning it back on. Depending on the size it can take 45 minutes. No need to turn it over. I sometimes it’s jam for frosting (add few drops of water). I can’t find my video. I think I posted it in a Facebook group, but never posted it to UA-cam.
That really surprises me. I've been watching a lot of these videos, and I was under the impression that you needed a really large power station. Thanks so much for the great information. Great video packed into a small bundle. Love that.
Thanks for watching! I have an old 350 watt power supply ( my first ) for cameras, laptop, etc ( I used to have it running my refrigerator/freezer) I then got the 1000 watt to do the rest. At some point, I will get a larger one, ( 1500 watt) but am happy with what I have! Lynn (AvianMariner)
Found your channel. I'm gonna be living the van life in 6 months or so. 65 and can't afford rent. I'm a camper so already have some ideas. Learned some good stuff from your channel. Thanks
I think it would be great to find a small group of 5-10 people to band loosely together for safety and companionship without the politics and religion and being able to count on each other "nomadically", and not necessarily "houseless" feeling.
Girl, I agree with your philosophy 100%. I will not use propane or butane in my van. No open flame. I have an Echoflow power bank which is 1150. I love your ideas for cooking.
I have a question for you on the eco flow. I have one too. I liked it because of the flat top , BUT, I had a problem with the 12 volt charging cable burning up at the connection and then I had to fiddle with it to get a connection that it would only keep if the vehicle was still. Have you had the same experience?
@@janlovig3371 Let’s say I called Ecoflow, not necessarily contacted them. They would have to answer an email or phone call. I contacted Wellbots, where I bought it and they pretty much referred me( to ( or dumped me on) eco flow. Warranties from certain countries mean nothing.
Both Nostalgia and DASH offer many small appliances that use 800 watts or less. Consider getting a 12v rice cooker, it sips energy vs DASH's 200 watt rice cooker. I make oatmeal and heat up many things in my DASH rice cooker at home. Their egg bite maker works well as a small griddle, around 450 watts I believe. Thrift stores are wonderful places to find these small jewels inexpensively. I paid $2 for the one slice Nostalgia toaster like yours. The MyMini is a 2/1 and uses about 250 watts.
Avoid the DASH air fryer. That thing tried to burn us down. 😕 Our mechanic freaked out when he opened the battery box. It kept blowing the 100 amp safety fuse and shutting off our 2k watt inverter and thank goodness!
one of my favorite low-wattage appliances is the YQ-105 mini electric hotplate, sometimes called a coffee stove. inexpensive (about $20), 600 watts, very well-made and works very well. the hot plate is 4 inches in diameter, but i use it with pots and pans up to 8 inches in diameter and it still works well. my ecoflow river pro will run it for 2+ hours no problem.
One nice thing about the EcoFlow 1300 is that when you plug it into a 120vac outlet it recharges from around 20% back up to around 80% in about an hour. This means if you grab a coffee in a cafe near an outlet, you can recharge while sitting there. With 1300 watthours, you have plenty of power for appliances like these for a couple of days.
Awesome video, I like how short but informative it is! Also liked how you used each appliance and showed us they actually work and how quickly :) Tons to explore in the comments too!
I put up a follow-up video! There were a few requests for me to have shown what effect 3 of the appliances featured had on the 1000 watt power supply. I read the comments and attempt to respond to them as time allows, (even learning from some of them!) Thank you for watching the channel! Lynn (AvianMariner)
Hi there, greetings from India & I'm ur new subscriber.. Came accross your channel & I was amazed by the way you have organised the things in your car !!! Stay safe & all the best for your channel 👍✌️
So glad i came across this. I want to get a power station for when our power goes out, but I wasn' tsure about what kind of appliances I could use. This video was perfect! Thank you
Try to get a 1500 watt power station! I need to upgrade mine. It's 3 years old and has had heavy use ( it's 1000 watts , which has been fine, but I am going to do some extended travel in 2024 and figure it is time to upgrade!
By all means, go with Jackery 1000 or higher. I bought the Jackery 500 and it is limited in what it supports. I can do a lot with the low-voltage rice cooker on my Jackery 500 but not much more than recharges of UBS items.
@@avianmariner Now (mid Nov 2023) is a great time to upgrade as Bluetti, and I think all the other brands, are offering their Black Friday prices. I buy power stations with LFP cells only, as I figure the extra years of use are worth the extra weight.
Good news, on 10/23/23 the little hot pot was 34% off plus an extra 40% off at checkout on Amazon. I bought it, regular $60.99 for $26.05. Added a couple other items to wish list. I'm getting older and am getting away from flames in my little fishing Odyssey. Hey that would make a great name, if I start a retirement minivan UA-cam channel.
If you start that channel, I will subscribe ! Love it! Sometimes I watch items on amazon for months... then when they go on sale, I jump!😊 Lynn (AvianMariner)
@@2Hearts3 😊 Thanks for watching my channel and commenting. I followed this video with a few more on food appliances ( including some for dc power) Lynn (AvianMariner)
Very good video. Plenty of thought provoking material and actionable information in less time than some spend introducing "today's video". New subscribe.
Nice review of electronic appliances for minivan camping. I’ve has a 12v kettle for 7 years for coffee or anything you can make with hot water, and a 12v HotLogic Mini (HLM) slow cooker for 5 years of cooking while driving. Recent additions are a Dash griddle to make a fried egg or 1 egg omelet or 2 or 3 breakfast sausage links on, a Nuwave induction stove burner (can be set to 600w, 900w, or 1200w). While I do have a duel fuel one burner camp stove I mostly use the HLM. Also, I’ve used both the Dash & the induction stovetop in a motel room.
Thanks! I will look into Nuwave induction. The one I have is 1200 watts which is too much for my 1000 watt supply ( can't recall the name .) I often camp , and use electric hookups but prefer things that can be run with my solar power station ! I occasionally use a 1 burner butane stove, but for this video, I was trying to show safer alternatives while cooking in a minivan. Lynn (AvianMariner)
@@avianmariner, I think it’s a slightly older model under $100, they have a newer higher wattage burner too. Those that use it camping or traveling understand why you would want a choice of one that can switch between 600w/900w/1200w instead of one that surges to 100-2000w ! But lost on the reviewer at Consumer Reports (he said, “Why would anyone want the ability to change wattage?” I need to write the editor because clearly the dude is too privileged to have never been in an apt with old wiring, or like my niece being restricted in a college dorm to lower watt appliances. It even says why you might want that in user manual). Glad YT suggested your videos, as I am a true camping gadget gal. 🙃🍳🔦⛺️🐟
I have that Nuwave induction burner and love it precisely for the variable wattage. Perfect for van camping using a battery. I’ve also used it on the covered porch of a yurt or cabin at state parks where I can plug into an outlet.
Great video, got me pulling out my Dash to cook 4 sausages, after what seemed an eternity I finally pulled out my cast iron to finish the sausages and made a decent size pancake in a jiffy. Still trying to get the grease out of the Dash since you can’t sumerge in water and I’ve wasted countless paper towels trying to do so while the cast iron is already dry and put away Your video is great, I’m glad it works for you and many others, personally I’ll stick with stoves, have propane adapters, legally refillable 1 lb tanks, using my 10 lb tank to refill it costs about $1 a pound and is completely legal in a fire ban, I use a vestibule when windy that attaches to the vehicle and I’m good. Everyone is different and does what works for them, your video was very detailed and well done, I certainly appreciate the effort you put in it. Thanks.👍🏻👍🏻
Just curious...What dash item were you using? If I am in a snowstorm ( roads can get closed for hours) or in freezing rain, I don't open doors or windows of my mini-Van to cook ... needing to keep in heat (I travel to New England in winter) Thanks for commenting! 😊 Lynn
There are some cooking appliances that I would like to use, ( a small Forman-type grill for example) but you are correct- those are hard to clean on the road and I want easy-cleaning tools. By the way, I also love cast iron and use it when cooking outside! 😊 Lynn
A seriously well done and informative video, thanks! I also heard the sweet song of low power electric appliances and use them all of the time. During bad weather I'll open the back and use a gas stove for cooking so I don't drain my power stations (yup, more than one for different needs) too quickly. I wondered about the toaster and after seeing you use it I'll be getting one also, thanks again!
Thank you 😊 I do use a butane stove outside in nice "camping" weather , but when inside the minivan- ( think of trapped inside while roads are closed because of a snowstorm) all electric ! Lynn (AvianMariner)
Thank you for the great options. I have a dodge caravan but no awning for me to cook outside if it rains. I do have a power station 1800 ecoflow. So thanks for showing me great options.
Thank You so much. I got the Nuwave, so that I can travel and use those camping kitchen pots/pans/kettle. It has 3 settings 600w, 900w, and 1300w. I travel with a 1 gallon thermos and a electric water immersion 300W (acts just like the component inside the electric kettle.) That way I can heat up the gallon of water if I need to use my portable shower. I've been looking into the 1-2qt convection oven they are usually still cutting it close in wattage 900-1000w. The 3 QT Instapot is 600w. It's be great if they had an instapot with a crisper that was 3QT and low wattage...
*There are more choices NOW than there was when I started my journey. Also, power stations and solar panels have WAAAY MORE options! Before they were only a few choices and they were VERY EXPENSIVE! So we used propane and butane to cook.* 🤷🏾♀️
A few years ago, I had no idea there were power stations like what I use now. I was at a diner, and a young person was explaining what he was going to use as a power source while starting his Van-life journey. I was intrigued! (He approached me to see my Truck-camper setup and we started talking.) I couldn't wait to get into a wifi area to start researching Portable Power supplies. I was aware of Deep Cycle Batteries used with power inverters, but also knew they could be dangerous, heavy, and expensive! Back in those days, I used a butane stove in my vented truck-topper to cook, and a Buddy heater at night for heat (with windows opened slightly for ventilation)
Oh, I so needed to see this video. I have been preparing to move back to my land for about a year now. My rent has gone up from $500 to $750 within two years so it's a given! I retired two years ago and had been living my best life, but jacking the rent up was the end. Plans for a 30x30 garage to be built are underway. The guy doing the construction says It should be large enough for me to live in until my home (that had no roof for 8 years) can be rebuilt. I had been worrying about living in it with my car while trying to stay warm and cooking. Thank you, I subscribed and I'll be back.
Did you watch my, minivan road-trip " tips and gear" series ? There are 5 short videos that have a lot of stuff... even a stealthy shower option and " portable bathroom " lol Most people don't realize that between November ( last year ) until march, I included cooking/ baking on my channel! I got stuck home due to family health issues- but didn't want to stop my channel! When I get my van back- I am back on the road!!!!
This is fantastic video concept. Most people don’t understand what it’s like to live on less power. This helps anyone downsizing to keep similar comforts with electricity.
At 600 watts for the pot, my 1000 watt power supply does a good job 😊 ( Though I do have to put a charge on it after prolonged use) When you're in a hurricane/blizzard area, electric appliances that you can use on the road and power supplies are necessary & awesome! BTW, until last year, I had a Full size Chevy Silverado I used for road-trips & camping. It passed on after many miles together! Thanks again for watching! 😊 Lynn
I was just looking around on amazon to add another one for, "just at home." Last winter when we lost power, the 1000 watt was running my household refrigerator. It also can run a sump pump, 55" lcd TV, and a lot more! 😊 Thanks for watching, Lynn ( AvianMariner )
Great for travel with dog/s too! If a nose gets too near the pot, it isn't hot ( though my dog/s are trained to stay on the back seat when I prepare food) Thanks for watching the videos! Lynn ( AvianMariner)
This is such an excellent video...thank you so much for the information about those different gadgets... I love them! I have a power station and I have a couple of Dash minis and now I know to look for more small appliances and which ones to look for. Great useful information. 👍🙂
Young Lady, finally something that makes van life unique. What a pot!!! Mind blowing 🤯. All inside the van, just vent your window. Great alternative solutions. You have a choice; Especially Solo! When you're in a safe spot then you can choose to cook outside. Genius! Thanks.
I have owned the small electric skillet for several years now. Love it! Great for Stir-fry, Lasagna, Fish, Breakfast Potatoes, etc. I use it in my Conversion Van for my much loved kayak fishing trips and also Moto-camping with the Vespa Scooters It's a great product. That and a Road oven and we're set to go 😋.
@@birdlady2725 I use a RoadPro 12V oven while driving or on the Inverter. It heats to 350 or so. Perfect for warming up foods and for quick breads such as muffins, etc. For more stationery use at a camping site I use a Coleman Oven or my Trangia 27T STORMCOOKER (w/the Gas insert for flame control and Billy Pot) for dry baking and roasting foods. Hope this helps you. BTW, I'm looking at those OMNIA OVEN recipes and thinking about maybe adding one of their camping ovens to my collection. They've been on the market for quite some time now but I just haven't had the need but the reviews are great so I might just go ahead and score one.
Im glad I ran across your video. Appliances that work off a solar supply are also good when you live in a home with spike power times you don't want to pay 5xs the regular cost.
I have an old video, ( not my best ! lol ) that shows many other items hooked up and running at the same time... I lost power last winter, and was running a full sized refrigerator with the power supply ( with a solar panel draped outside the kitchen window to keep it charged) Lynn ( AvianMariner)
Thanks for your simple to understand video. If I ever buy a portable charging station I will make sure it has pass through charging . If only option for butane cooking, I have a 3 foot standing metal toolbox on wheels. I place stove inside and access by opening a small door. If ever had a flare up ,it is in an enclosed metal container. I think I will invest in what you have also to give my day camping trips move flexibility in my little kitchen area.
I just purchased one of the mini toasters you showed, for my RV. Don't need a larger size for just me, so it is perfect, and I like the pretty turquoise colour. Thank you for suggesting.
Awesome Thank you for making and sharing this video 🙏🏼. I have the Jackery 1000 and this just helped me so much without all the trial and error and wasted $ or hassle of sending back . Safe Travels and Best Wishes to you on your journey 🙏🏼❤️
Thank you for the kind wishes! You can also use a Nutribullit 900, as I showed in my latest video ( "minivan camper (no build...) " ) I have been looking at a steamer made by the same company as the hotpot: a.co/d/ibGWQ8o Lynn ( AvianMariner)
That electric hot pot is great. I saw a UA-camr that used a 200w rice cooker for baking, of all things, so I'd guess that it's possible to bake in that pot too.
This was very enlightening, thank you, it's making me think twice about getting a butane little stove. Also that pot was awsome, Thank you for sharing 🥰
I just put up a video. A tour, and reconfigured setup. In the video, I showed some cooking ( indoor ) tables. I do use a butane stove with cast iron pots and pans... but outside only 😊
Glad you liked it!! I posted a few more after that one with different cooking appliances ( and most of my camping videos have more! ) Lynn (AvianMariner)
Hi Lynn. I instantly subscribed after watching this. Really good info, really well presented, and I've been watching all sorts of nomad channels for 6 or 7 years. I do Prius camping, and am looking to add a 1000W or 1500W inverter to the car, so that things like these devices or a 700W Instant Pot will come into play. I currently just carry 2 alcohol stoves and cook outdoors. When one stove runs out of fuel, I light the other one and move the pan onto it, so I'm never pouring fuel into a hot stove. While my alcohol stoves are Brasslite and not cheap, I've also made my own "super cat" alcohol stoves with just empty cat food cans and a paper punch or drill. I actually cheat a little bit and use a slightly bigger can, the size of a WalMart "vienna sausage" can, though I actually use even sturdier cans that size, I think from cans of peppers in the ethnic food aisle. The alcohol fuel is cheap and available at any Wal-Mart in the automotive section, in yellow plastic bottles, "Yellow HEET". It is methanol, poisonous to drink, but safe to cook with and it burns extremely clean, unlike other alcohols. Cooking a pound of bacon takes 2oz in each stove and just the one pan swap between stoves. If my cooking is done before the fuel burns out, I just leave it burning until it is gone, to avoid having to pour it back into the bottle, then clean remaining drops of it up. Safer and easier to just let if burn out, and the hot stove completely evaporates/burns the fuel, nothing left to clean up.
I carry a sterno stove and a butane stove for outdoor cooking... or cook on outdoor, "public" fire grates using cast iron pans. Otherwise, it's, "in-van" electrics in bad weather Thanks for watching 😊 Lynn (AvianMariner)
power stations are a great deal right now. I have ordered two StormRock 500w power stations both under $200 each from Wal Mart. A 300w is $99. Needs must, finances must for the size of station purchased. As savings grow, larger stations/low power usage appliances can be purchased. Of course. solar and 12 volt options are available too. I have several Mini and Dash appliances, all low voltage. I have to stop me from buying more as space in an RV is an issue. Great video. Thank you.
I started off with two 350 watt "Rockpals." I have a 3 year old Baldr1000 (1000 watt), and am researching a 1500 watt Power Station- but not in a rush! Thanks for commenting! Lynn (AvianMariner)
Great film. I bought a 500 very early on. Their are appliances. Mainley 12 volt trucker item. Upgrading soon to a 1500. Love all your appliances. And that you are honest and not sucking up like some "minamilist" channels. The guy from Sarasota mainly. Appreciate the content.
Thank you! I have many videos to share experiences as I travel, camp, and even cook with my dogs! Enjoy 😊 And thank you for the kind wishes Lynn (AvianMariner)
I wish someone would make a 2 slice version of that toaster , that you could select only 1 slice so it doesn't energized the empty second side when you are just doing 1 slice of bread.
As I prepare to start doing weekend trips I am very grateful for this because I was scared to use butane. I went today and I found a bunch of the My Mini appliances ; I was thinking wow this will work and you just prove to me that I made the right decision. Thanks.. Hope to see you on the road again!❤
I just got home from a 3000 mile roadtrip! 😊 I think you might like the dc appliances video as well. I found a food warmer that I use a lot on trips. I put frozen ( or cold ) food in it when starting a trip and plug it into my lighter plug. A few hours on the road, my food is ready to eat! Thanks for watching! Lynn
What a smooth set up! But I couldn't live without fire. I'm here for the 700 watt or less reviews, though. The thing is, a 600 watt air fryer kept blowing my 100 amp breaker fuse, shutting down my 2k watt inverter, and frying my wires.😢 At least when we're broke down on the side of the road we can make coffee and cook food. With coffee, all things are possible. 🙏🏼🤣
@@SewingBoxDesigns I traded the Pacifica and got into a small cargo van 😊 If you have questions on any of the appliances in the video let me know 😊 Lynn ( AvianMariner)
I agree, I too was leary of cooking with propane inside a vehicle. In fact more mfgrs are going with induction cook tops instead of the propane option. Thank you for for sharing your ideas to use your mini solar generator.
Portable power stations are so useful! Instead of a gas generator, it ran my refrigerator during a storm power outage last winter ( I hung the solar panel out a kitchen window to keep the power station charging) I can't wait to attend mid winter RV and camping shows to see what's new in campers! Thanks for watching 😊 Lynn (AvianMariner)
This was a good video showing how to use a power station to cook meals on the road. I have never seen most of the cookware you used and it is nice to know they exist. I can see all sorts of uses and like that they are electric- no need to store fuel canisters for quick meals on the road. Thanks!
I put up a few more videos with power supplies as an option to shore power. The electric appliances are listed in the description section 😊Thanks for watching Lynn
Oh grrrl are you telling me I can cook, have lighting and a refrigerator/freezer in my shuttlebus without doing all that expensive wiring? I'M IN! FOLLOWING!
I am off to do some really cold weather minivan camping ( with a day of rain in the forecast too ) in the next video... we shall see... Thanks for watching 😊 Lynn ( AvianMariner)
Hi from the UK, I live on a small river boat and use an Aferiy 1200w power station, it runs my 900w kettle, 1200w Gaggia espresso machine, 700w toaster, 300w Cook pot etc etc… “not all at once”… unfortunately we don’t have the weather here for great solar so I have to run my main engine to charge the power station or my small petrol Genny. I admire your thinking and enjoyed watching, thank you! 😊
Thank you for watching! I am looking at a 1200-1500 power station ( it's about cost and unit weight ) I am also exploring deep cycle batteries and power inverters. Lynn (AvianMariner)
This video is exactly what I was looking for: low wattage appliances that are compatible with my 600 watt Bluetti EB3A power station. Helpful information and thank you for providing the links to the products!
I quit eating too much bread. Occasionally, I toast my one allowed slice for peanut butter and my home made jam. I was happy when I found the one slice toaster at Walmart. I also have a small soup/rice maker, a hotcake maker, and a small skillet besides my coffee warmer, kettle. All of them run on less than 500 watts.I also have a small 500w heater and a 12v fan. I use them at home and when camping with my 1000 W inverter and simple battery set up. I do not like the idea of propane and other combustible fluids/gasses in my minivan, either.
I have the toaster, a rice cooker and the exact same electric kettle. I accidentally knocked over a glass of water on my inverter. My solar is built in. I flipped my main switch to off and lot power for a few days, drying it out patiently. Thankfully, it works like new, now. I have butane on hand as well and use as needed inside the van, but I open my door to cook. I’m going to look into your hot pot sauce pan! I bought refried Mayocoba beans in the ethnic food section of a restaurant supply store yesterday. In pouches!! I can see a simple bean burrito in my future… new subscriber!
What do you use for an inverter with solar built in? Thank you for watching and subscribing 😊 I have something new that will be filmed soon... 😉 and hope to get some winter camping in! Lynn (AvianMariner)
Thank you. That info is also useful for folks in apartments. They don't allow open flame/fire. So in a power outage these would be really great to have.
I used the 1000 watt power station to run my full sized refrigerator last winter in a power outage! I have other older power stations that ran cooking appliances 😊 Much quieter than a gas generator
As long as you have a big enough power station, solar panels, and a plan for recharging ... I should have invested in a bigger power station! Mine is only 1000 watts with a 120 watt solar panel. I also do use a very basic butane stove outside in good weather 😊 All the best! -Lynn
Great video indeed. I have a boat, not a van, but these low wattage appliances do make sense if conserving power is the goal. Neither butane nor propane are dangerous, but I the hands of knuckle heads, yes they can be dangerous. Just recently bought a hot pot, shaped like a tall coffee mug, to boils water, mainly for coffee that uses about 300W, and has 3 temp setting, and auto shutoff, but mostly used when traveling and using a 400W car inverter.
Thanks 😊 ! Unfortunately "accidents" do happen with propane, and butane stoves and heaters. I was married to 2 firefighters ( years apart! ) and heard about accidents due to faulty equipment, as well as, " user error. " Lynn
@@paulweed9405 Thank you for watching and commenting! 😊 I will be updating thoughts on some of the appliances shown in my next camping / roadtrip video ( soon! ) Lynn ( AvianMariner)
Great video and product selection! Thanks so much! FWIW, here and in some of the comments below, it's not CO2 - carbon dioxide - we create when we have an open flame in our vans... It's CO, a.k.a. carbon monoxide. CO is much more dangerous than CO2.
Thank you, very helpful information. I have a Jackery 500 and I must say I wish I had gone to 1000, the 500 is ok for recharging through USB ports and I can run my little rice cooker on it but not much more.
I started off with a Rockpals 350Watt! I still use it for my laptop, cameras, phone charging, or lighting. I received the Baldr 1000 as a gift from my Husband 3 years ago. Really like it, but am researching the 1500 watt options available... (one can never have too many power supplies! lol) The 1000 watt ran my full-sized house refrigerator during a power outage last winter. The 350 watt was used for TV. We have a wood stove, so heating wasn't an issue, but keeping food cold was important. I do not like the noise of a gas powered generator, so these small power stations are a MUST for us!
Yup! The only reason I didn't include my induction cooktop is because it's 1200 watts. I can't use it with my 1000 watt power supply, though have used it in my tent when camping where there's electricity available 😊 Thanks for watching! Lynn (AvianMariner)
Thank you! I don't know how I camped without one before! I followed that video with a few more with the portable power supply shown, but recently got an EBL 1000 watt to replace it after 4 years of heavy use ( I also used it at home during power outages) though I am not completely retiring it ... (I have to keep it hooked up to a solar panel now.) Lynn (AvianMariner)
Great suggestions even for RV'ers. I do still use some propane for grill and generator. But I only use those when necessary and I never use stuff like that inside my camper. But these electric options look great. Thanks for sharing.
RV's were in one of my previous lives! I had no issue with the installed propane furnace, stove, refrigerator etc. as they were installed with safety precautions. Thanks for watching and commenting 😊 Lynn (AvianMariner)

This was very helpful! I agree that it's important to avoid explosive substances and open flames (especially in a closed space). Products like these may save lives! It was good to show that the bottom outside of the Dezin hot pot stays cool, even when what is in it is boiling hot. This pot also comes with a stainless steel steamer insert (for about $5 more).
@@avianmariner You're most welcome. I bought three of the items you demonstrated. I had been thinking of buying a frying pan and some kind of electric pot. I felt much more confident about buying them after watching and listening to your video. Thank _you_!

3qt instant pot with dump and go recipes are a game changer!
Love the safe ways to cook while on the road. ❤
Thank you! 😊
There are other awesome electrics too!
I got a small induction burner that can be set to draw only 600 watts. Works with my iron skillets AND stainless steel pots & kettle!
All of your points resonate with me and confirms my decision to get rid of things that call for gas. I’m planning to do van life for traveling and do so with all electric!
I'd probably live on sandwiches and pick up a good meal once a week 😅
I normally eat salads, or thaw things that I freeze at home (like leftovers) and heat them in the hotpot. Easy is best on the road or camping! Unfortunately, I resort to a can or bag of tuna... not something people want to watch on UA-cam :) @@FORKandFIFTIES
I cook everything from scrambled eggs and pancakes to crescent rolls and chicken thighs and fresh vegetables in a rice cooker. 😊
I saw a YT where a lady baked a cake in a rice cooker 😅
I heard about the cake in a rice cooker!
I want to experiment with a few different models. The next video I will share has a steamer / rice cooker. It was a bit messy to clean... probably my fault 😉
Thanks for watching !
Lynn ( AvianMariner)
Guilty

Thank you 😊
Lynn (AvianMariner)
I have a question for you on the eco flow. I have one too. I liked it because of the flat top , BUT, I had a problem with the 12 volt charging cable burning up at the connection and then I had to fiddle with it to get a connection that it would only keep if the vehicle was still.
Have you had the same experience?
Which Ecoflo do you have and what kind of a solar panel do you use?
@@Thumper7818 did you contact Eagle flow wouldn’t that have been covered under their five year warranty
@@janlovig3371
Let’s say I called Ecoflow, not necessarily contacted them.
Thank you for demonstrating these appliances!
one of my favorite low-wattage appliances is the YQ-105 mini electric hotplate, sometimes called a coffee stove. inexpensive (about $20), 600 watts, very well-made and works very well. the hot plate is 4 inches in diameter, but i use it with pots and pans up to 8 inches in diameter and it still works well. my ecoflow river pro will run it for 2+ hours no problem.
I am looking into upgrading/ replacing my power station in the future- I will look into the ecoflow Delta 1300 in my research . Thanks 😊
Are you in Virginia. Most people are nearer the other coast. I'd love to hook up with someone closer to Va.
The EcoFlow Delta 1300 is now a couple of years old. There are newer versions of their Delta that are likely better. @@avianmariner
Everywhere I look says the YQ-105 is 500 watts. Do you have a special model or was the 600 a typo? 🤔
I read the comments and attempt to respond to them as time allows, (even learning from some of them!)

I looked it up!

Thank you! 😊
I have that Nuwave induction burner and love it precisely for the variable wattage. Perfect for van camping using a battery. I’ve also used it on the covered porch of a yurt or cabin at state parks where I can plug into an outlet.
I had this one (my storage was taken and I lost it). You can cook on a lower setting.
LOVED this vid, love the way you get right to it! thank you
Great video, got me pulling out my Dash to cook 4 sausages, after what seemed an eternity I finally pulled out my cast iron to finish the sausages and made a decent size pancake in a jiffy.
If I am in a snowstorm ( roads can get closed for hours) or in freezing rain, I don't open doors or windows of my mini-Van to cook ... needing to keep in heat (I travel to New England in winter)
Thanks for commenting! 😊
Lynn
@@avianmariner the little square one, can’t remember what kind of Dash it is.
There are some cooking appliances that I would like to use, ( a small Forman-type grill for example) but you are correct- those are hard to clean on the road and I want easy-cleaning tools. By the way, I also love cast iron and use it when cooking outside! 😊
Lynn
Variable wattage induction burner is also a great frameless option for cast iron and carbon steel skillets and stainless steel pots & kettles.
Thank you 😊
I do use a butane stove outside in nice "camping" weather , but when inside the minivan- ( think of trapped inside while roads are closed because of a snowstorm) all electric !

Isn't it funny how a luxury like a slice of toast on demand can be so simple.
😊
@@brucehalleran1149oh yes! Sometimes I crave cinnamon toast and the small-wattage one-slice toaster will reinforce my portion control. 😊
Thank you for the great options. I have a dodge caravan but no awning for me to cook outside if it rains. I do have a power station 1800 ecoflow. So thanks for showing me great options.
Do you like the ecoflow 1800? I need to get a higher watt power station, ( my Baldr Pioneer is 1000 watt).
Lynn (AvianMariner)
What brand is your 300 watt immersion heater? I’ve only seen really cheap looking things that I don’t have confidence in.

That and a Road oven and we're set to go 😋.
What Road oven do you use?

Otherwise, it's, "in-van" electrics in bad weather

power stations are a great deal right now. Thank you.

Thanks for sharing 👍🏼. Im in a tiny studio apartment and love these types of appliances since it's just for me 😊
You are so welcome!
Lynn ( AvianMariner)
Thanks I just bought a solar generator and solar panels, great to see what it can do.
I agree, I too was leary of cooking with propane inside a vehicle. In fact more mfgrs are going with induction cook tops instead of the propane option. Thank you for for sharing your ideas to use your mini solar generator.
Portable power stations are so useful! Instead of a gas generator, it ran my refrigerator during a storm power outage last winter ( I hung the solar panel out a kitchen window to keep the power station charging)
I can't wait to attend mid winter RV and camping shows to see what's new in campers!
Thanks for watching 😊
Lynn (AvianMariner)
This was a good video showing how to use a power station to cook meals on the road. I have never seen most of the cookware you used and it is nice to know they exist. I can see all sorts of uses and like that they are electric- no need to store fuel canisters for quick meals on the road. Thanks!
I put up a few more videos with power supplies as an option to shore power. The electric appliances are listed in the description section 😊Thanks for watching
Lynn
Oh grrrl are you telling me I can cook, have lighting and a refrigerator/freezer in my shuttlebus without doing all that expensive wiring? I'M IN! FOLLOWING!
I am off to do some really cold weather minivan camping ( with a day of rain in the forecast too ) in the next video... we shall see... Thanks for watching 😊
Lynn ( AvianMariner)
Hi from the UK, I live on a small river boat and use an Aferiy 1200w power station, it runs my 900w kettle, 1200w Gaggia espresso machine, 700w toaster, 300w Cook pot etc etc… “not all at once”… unfortunately we don’t have the weather here for great solar so I have to run my main engine to charge the power station or my small petrol Genny. I admire your thinking and enjoyed watching, thank you! 😊
Thank you for watching! I am looking at a 1200-1500 power station ( it's about cost and unit weight )
I am also exploring deep cycle batteries and power inverters.
Lynn (AvianMariner)
This video is exactly what I was looking for: low wattage appliances that are compatible with my 600 watt Bluetti EB3A power station. Helpful information and thank you for providing the links to the products!
3:42 this made me chuckle
Packing bubbles? Life can't always be serious!!! 😁
Thank you Mama😊
I love the way you think, you know how to improvise
Thank you for watching and subscribing 😊
I have something new that will be filmed soon... 😉 and hope to get some winter camping in!
Lynn (AvianMariner)
Thanks for the info, will check out the electric pot
Thank you. That info is also useful for folks in apartments. They don't allow open flame/fire. So in a power outage these would be really great to have.
I used the 1000 watt power station to run my full sized refrigerator last winter in a power outage! I have other older power stations that ran cooking appliances 😊
Much quieter than a gas generator
Thanks Im getting ready to do van life and wonder if I can do all Electric and you confirmed it.
As long as you have a big enough power station, solar panels, and a plan for recharging ...
I should have invested in a bigger power station! Mine is only 1000 watts with a 120 watt solar panel. I also do use a very basic butane stove outside in good weather 😊
All the best!
Lynn
Amazing loved every minute of it ,it only makes sense
@@paulweed9405 Thank you for watching and commenting! 😊
I will be updating thoughts on some of the appliances shown in my next camping / roadtrip video ( soon! )

Just found your videos and you now have a new subscriber from The Cayman Islands! ❤
Thank you for watching, and subscribing!😊

love your video, simple and good enough to understand. ❤
😊 thank you
Lynn ( AvianMariner)
Great video and product selection! Thanks so much! FWIW, here and in some of the comments below, it's not CO2 - carbon dioxide - we create when we have an open flame in our vans... It's CO, a.k.a. carbon monoxide. CO is much more dangerous than CO2.
Thanks for information 😊
Love the skillet and hot pot. We can use these to supplement our induction cooktop.
Yup! The only reason I didn't include my induction cooktop is because it's 1200 watts. I can't use it with my 1000 watt power supply, though have used it in my tent when camping where there's electricity available 😊
Thanks for watching!
Lynn (AvianMariner)
Ooh I appreciate your video. Very practical! Smart thinking on the multiuse hot pot..
Thanks 😊
Lynn
Just found you. Glad I did. Now looking for that pot. Preparing for Van life. Thank you 😊
Love this. i especially love the hot pot. thanks for sharing.
Thanks for watching! I am pretty impressed with the hot pot 😊

Love all the gidgy-gatchets!😊
So glad I came across your video! I have been searching for things like this to use with my jackery. Saved this video for later.
Glad it was helpful! :)

So inspiring! I’m saving up for my first power station..then go camping! Oh joy! 🥰
Thank you! I don't know how I camped without one before! I followed that video with a few more with the portable power supply shown, but recently got an EBL 1000 watt to replace it after 4 years of heavy use ( I also used it at home during power outages) though I am not completely retiring it ... (I have to keep it hooked up to a solar panel now.)
Lynn (AvianMariner)
Great suggestions even for RV'ers. I do still use some propane for grill and generator. But I only use those when necessary and I never use stuff like that inside my camper. But these electric options look great. Thanks for sharing.
RV's were in one of my previous lives!
I had no issue with the installed propane furnace, stove, refrigerator etc. as they were installed with safety precautions. Thanks for watching and commenting 😊
Lynn (AvianMariner)
THANK YOU!! I have been looking for ways to cook in the SUV without open flame. Gonna have to look into this!
I have a few more videos after that with other ( though more unique ) appliances for cooking 😊
Thank you for watching my channel!

Very informative
This was very helpful! I agree that it's important to avoid explosive substances and open flames (especially in a closed space). Products like these may save lives! It was good to show that the bottom outside of the Dezin hot pot stays cool, even when what is in it is boiling hot. This pot also comes with a stainless steel steamer insert (for about $5 more).
Thank you for the Dezin updated information ( stainless steel insert)
