Excellent film! Bumped on it by accident and being crazy fan of trains in general, I was curious. Got rewarded with this film and I see many others like it. The commentary is well-articulated and with relevant details. Thank you so much for your efforts and sharing. Take care and please keep up the excellent work! ...anwar...
The original version with the 62 stock is far superior as it captures the true character of the line, also it had proper tube trains, trains that were built to last, they did not have their traction motors drop off on to the four foot while in service !, I LOVE THE 1962 STOCK !!!
Maybe, but the 62 stock were showing their age in the mid 90's, there were repeated problems with securing the doors towards the end (as shown in Fred Ivey's footage of a 62 stock on the Epping to Ongar Section, where at North Weald, it took the guard four attempts to secure the doors before giving the ping to the driver on the bell to signal to depart)
@@SiVlog1989 true , but had they continued the maintenance regime on them, they would of lasted longer . However the company plan put pay to that and the central went OPO
Yes of course we are always keeping our eye on developments. Market forces are the main changer in delivery platforms and we always have to follow otherwise we would go out of business. Downloads will happen but there is still no definite plan as yet.
We have hundreds of customers in the USA who play our DVDs successfully either on standard, multi-standard players or computers. We only do PAL versions so it is up to individual's machines. We always suggest experimenting and/or taking advice. Our DVDs are region zero so that is not an issue.
Yes, the original experimentation for ATO was on the Hainault to Woodford loop. This was in fact ahead of ATO on the Victoria Line which of course was ATO from the start. A newsreel about this appears as a bonus on the Victoria Line Driver's eye view - amongst a total of 17 minutes of archive film from the previous century.
brilliant !!!!!!!!!!! thank you. P.S IS THIS CLEAR OR WHAT? VERY NICE. I LOVE RIDING MY EXERCISE BIKE WATCHING THESE VIDEOS , I DON'T GET BORED NOW. THANK YOU
the central line trains have a distinct sound from other lines and same when doors are closing/ i worked as a maintenance mechanic on these trains in 2005
The original Central Line DEV is no longer available. The Northern Line (City and West End branches on one DVD) is available to purchase online at video125.co.uk for just £15 fully inclusive.
London underground should NOT make the trains automatic like the docklands light railway. Mr Spixmacaw is quite right. If they make the trains automatic and they break down, how will the passengers be able to get to their destinations? They will be stuck in a tunnel under the ground! With the DLR they can easily get off the trains.
LUL says no, however nothing is forever. Certainly in Paris, it is intended that all Metro trains will not only be driverless within a generation but also be totally automatic - not even with a Train Captain (as on the DLR).
But the Paris Metro doesn't have most of its stations as 'deep level' - the London Underground does. Except for stations on the District, and Metropolitan lines many of the stations on the Underground are far below street level. Making all tube trains driverless wouldn't just be impractical but downright dangerous, and could pose a threat to passenger safety. Just because driverless trains work and are successful on the Paris Metro, doesn't mean either will be the case on the London Underground. Paris is Paris, and London is London. The underground railway networks in both cities differ vastly from each other. All of its stations are shallow level ones. It doesn't have deep level tubes with stations built in them.
So much has changed since we filmed the original "Central". Be warned though, once the current stocks of "CENTRAL" (as opposed to the new one called "Central LIne") have gone, that will be it, we shall not be replicating it any more.

Strictly speaking, ATO isn't "driverless", OK the driver is known as "Operator" but they are all trained drivers and the Victoria line trains are driven between Seven Sisters and the Northumberland Park Depot.
@thetubefan11 This probably would not be commercially viable, since not many would buy again (nothing much has changed since 2001), and LUL do charge Video125 for filming.
By my calculations, 17 stations on the Central Line are underground (Shepherd's Bush to Liverpool Street along with Wanstead. Redbridge and Gants Hill)
"Gants Hill station should copy the Moscow Metro stations" ,I don't think so, have a look at the Moscow underground stations, yes they are the same design, but they decorated with gold and paintings on the ceilings, with beautiful chandeliers, so amazing in fact that tourists take pictures of it, so Im sorry the station at Gants Hill is a very poor imitation.
Hey there's a few more that Rob Curling should Do A/Circle Line (Edgware Road to Hammersmith Via High Street Kensington and Algate) B/Hammersmith & City Line (Barking to Hammersmith) C/Piccadilly Line (Heathrow Terminal 5 to Acton Town & Arnos Grove to Uxbridge) As the last of Underground Trains well almost but next comment...
It is interesting that you don't like ATO. In the future all lines will be at least ATO and in Paris on the Metro, within the next decade or so all trains will be totally automatic without even an operator.
+Proud Bristolian Its to stop the electrical erosion to pipes etc beneath the tracks, live returning through the running rails would cause this. Having separate positive and negative rails stops this happening
Rob Curling should of done another East London years ago Shoreitch to New Cross Gate along with the Jubilee Line bonus Green Park to Charing Cross Special
Also next time do Victoria Line Brixton to Seven Siters or Victoria to Walthamstow on 2009 Stock And for S8 Stock on A/Metropolitan Line (Amersham to Baker Street) B/Hammersmith & City Line (Barking to Hammersmith) maybe the same from B in my 2nd last comment
I stumbled across this video by mistake and am aware that it's for anoraks only.. but I have to say that a little bit of me revolted in horror at the prospect of 110 minutes of this drivel.
What amazes me more is that some people actually pay for the full DVDs of these! They're available online at around £20 a go + delivery costs. I have an interest in the LU but I couldn't sit through 110 minutes of this. I'm not really that interested in rolling stock apart from making sure it gets me from A to B and back in one piece, instead I'm more interested in the history of the tube, station architecture, ghost stations, haunted stations, the social impact of LU, the game called Mornington Crescent and that sort of thing, plus I've read a lot about some of the major incidents and disasters. My grandmother was buried the night of the Kings Cross Fire.
My grandson will be pleased with your video as he loves trains 😊 thank you 😊

Historical from the early days of electrification when the fourth rail was added to prevent earth leakage in underground tunnels especially.
The new Central Line is due in to our offices on 21st November. Any orders will be despatched then.
Got my copy of this today and watched it and learned a fair bit! Cheers!
Can't wait for this - I'll be ordering my copy today. I still love the original 1992 version!
