Re-watching Elle's old videos while in quarantine because of Coronavirus!
I know that feeling when you first walk into your dorm room, it looks so bare and cold but then you always manage to make it cosy, it just takes a bit of decoration, so don't get down when you first see it girls!! Also, the people that live with you end up being really really close friends so don't be too nervous and remember that they're just as nervous as you and just as eager to make things go well. Good luck to all you new studies out there (I so wish I could go back to that time sometimes!)
I remembered watching this video years ago and thinking, 'college is so far away!' but now I'm going in the fall and I came back to re-listen to your tips :p (btw that shower tote looks amazing...I'm hoping Sears still carries those 3 years later haha)

I think this is my favorite video ever on YT. I watched it so offen as a middle schooler and I^m watching it again now, after having my degree. I love it!
Oh thanks so much for this video Elle! I'm a senior in high school this year and you've gotten me so pumped for college. One other thing I like to have is over the ear ear plugs. Yep the really dorky ones you wear to mow the lawn and stuff. It helps so much to keep it quiet when you need to study and it's noisy outside.

Roisin Loughlin Here in the UK I went to a small university. In my block we all had our own rooms, but we shared one shower between 4 girls, 1 toilet and sink room, and one bath. Usually they were 5 to these but we only had 4 girls on our hallway!
"It's hard to get up there sometimes....after you've gone out." That made me laugh so hard and I have no idea why hahaha. Ok Elle, get your party on ;)
I'm only going to college next year but this series will still be very helpful; I'll rewatch it in like 10 months time ;P
As for suggestions, please do a College Wardrobe edition! What you think are practical, staple pieces for going to class, pieces for the cold weather, cute pyjamas etc and of course shoes :) and maybe how to organise your wardrobe too!
And maybe a FOOD video? Like how college food usually is, or if you like to make your own food/go out to eat, what you usually snack on!

I'm so lucky! My moms cousin works at my school dorms and she told me the best rooms to pick. Now I have huge room next to the bathroom, with 2 big windows,new individual beds and it's the warmest room in the winter. And I have to share it with 2 other girls that I already know. The tips in this video are really helpful, because I have to move in this Sunday, but I have nothing packed so far.

I've had the single serve Hamilton Beach Blender for about a year now and I LOVE IT! It is SOO handy!! The mornings are THE WORST for me and I always run out of time and forget about breakfast. But with exams and essays and having to constantly be on your toes it's so, so, so important to eat breakfast. So I just make a power smoothie - takes about 5 minutes MAX - throw the sippy lid on the blender cup and run to where ever I need to go. Buying this blender was one of the best things I ever did.

I would suggest a cork board too! I used it to put notes to remind myself of any assignments I had coming up. As well as any notes/cards I got from my family. And if you get a plain one, you can paint it whatever colour you want to make it all co-ordinate! I loved living in residence! You meet so many people, and four of my very best friends I met in res! (My school didn't have "dorms", we had residences).
I'm commuting to university but this makes me want my own house off campus (I hate dorms) just for the room decor!

I'm still in high school & I'll probably stay at home & commute to university but I think this will really help me out if I do move into a dorm, and I'm sure this is helping out all the people that are starting college/university this september. i remember the day we dropped my brother off at his dorm. it was microscopic, there was one actual bed, then a loft with two mattresses on the floor because the cieling was too low. the one bed was really nice, and it even had two layers of drawers underneath. he was last to show up, and his roomates were so kind that they "saved the best bed for the last man" its now my brothers last year, and he still shares a house with his old roomates, cuz they're best friends :)

Now that I am heading off to college I am rewatching your college videos. They are super helpful. When I first watched your college videos I thought college was so far away and now look I am heading to college this fall.
In the first house my husband and I lived in, it was a studio home and all tile. I hated it during the winter because it was so cold and we finally bought big rugs for every room.
I LOVED this video sooo much! I'm only 15 but I can't wait to go to collage in 5 years time! I love interior design and can't wait to decorate my own little mini house! :) xx

I feel like packing for college will be easier for me then most people (even though it's a couple years off). I've been going to sleepaway camp for 6 years, and that definitely helps with organization.

I had a reversible comforter with two similar designs on it when I was in college. It was nice being up to switch it up a bit. I also wish I had color coordinated my stuff better. Nothing matched, not even my sheets to my comforter!

you're so lucky that you had a mini fridge in your room! i'm moving into halls at university on sunday and i think they are a bit different here in the uk to in the US. mine are split into flats/apartments with 6 students in each flat, and we have a room and a bathroom each, and then a shared kitchen/living space. mini fridges are banned in pretty much every uni and boarding school in the country though, because they use up too much power! great tips elle!

the dorms i know came always with a little bathroom with a shower, sink and toilet and a little kitchen area with a fridge, sink, small cooking area and some cupboards (and a single bed and desk of course). most of the times you get a room alone, but it seems to be very different here in germany...
i never lived in a dorm (but my friends did, so i know), i luckily always had an apartment myself :)

THAT CHAIR IS SO CUTE
My suggestion is to hang Christmas lights in your dorm room. Me and my roommate each hung Christmas lights and kept them up all year round. When we would study in the evenings, we would turn off the main lights and just turn on our Christmas lights and desk lamps and it made for the coziest, happiest atmosphere.
Elle...you should do a video about sorority rush! There are so many tips to give out that I wish I had known when I was rushing!

I have already lived in a dorm for a year, but you made me feel much more calm moving in for the second time. Your room, however, is much better looking than mine, despite the "grayish yellow" walls. You seem like you were definitely a good roommate :)
I CLEANED my dorm first then started unpacking!!! those things aren't always clean and you NEVER know who stayed their last and what they did or had.
