Dear Sir and/or Madam, I noticed your video featuring your broken Keysight oscilloscope. I am pleased to inform you that for the low sum of $199.99 I can replace your broken Keysight oscilloscope with a barely used Rigol DHO804! Just send in your Keysight scope now and we will take care of the rest. We are always glad to help you austrians out.
Reminds me of an almost complete opposite. I built a power supply, connected my meter and turned it on.... All light out in my house... Then I looked out the window and noticed the neighbours were also out - so a complete fluke. Definitely confirmed when I realised I hadn't actually put the plug into a power point! Oh but what a feeling, flick a switch and everything goes dark.
My quickest fix: In my youth, a well-off friend gave me his "broken" Nintendo GameBoy shortly after getting it as a gift. The fix was 4 fresh AA batteries. His mom just bought him a new one rather than figure out what was wrong with the "old" one.
We all have these "D'Oh" moments Dave. I remember years ago, our senior engineer attaching a socket to the end of the power cable on a newly imported device. Despite our attempts to point out the error of his ways. He had an epiphany moment when he attempted to plug it in. Sadly no evidence remains, and we all had to sign an NDA (since expired) - LOL. Thanks for sharing.😂
correction of fault. 1 remove cover and inspect cost $350. Correction of fault - loose connection flapping in the breeze. - reconnected cable to Molex connector. Labour $240 min 3 hour charge. Check and update firmware and turn on for function. Recommend person of high professionalism in field of electronics to only work on this unit. Total Cost 350 + 240 + Experience = A lot of money.
Reminds me of the time I bought a fancy Bose soundbar off FB because the fancy RF remote with LCD display was faulty and a replacement was really pricey. I brought it home and the remote was completely unresponsive with nothing on the screen. I then put new batteries in. Everything worked perfectly. Score!
02:00 - by this point i think i'm already half expecting for Dave to show us the middle finger. Not disappointed =) (it's been almost a tradition by now to flip birds on the channel)
Had a GIANT problem updating maps in Ford Galaxy from 2020. The problem? Would not use GPT paritioned USB drive (windows install previously), had to be an MBR partition. Formatting doesn't help, you have to delete GPT partition and make an MBR one. Took me ages to diagnose that bugger :)
These companies only employ software engineers who stopped learning new things in 1996 so you can't really expect them to implement USB mass storage drivers well.
Great to see that you have a sense of humour about a simple mistake that anyone can make, even experienced people. When I've missed something simple it's always both a relief and a duh moment.
WOW. That please wait loading circle looks an awful lot like the windows 10 one. Concerningly like the windows 10 one. also the technical term for that loading circle is a "throbber" and no I'm not making that up.
I'm always reluctant to update things these days because updates are likely to break features or start displaying ads. "I see you're using the ASCII decoder feature. Upgrade to the Unicode decoder for only $17.95/month! (Emojii not included)"
Very COoL and serendipitous. Also, I'm pretty sure you could trim this fix down to ~30 seconds, but I don't want to micromanage... Cheers from the birth place of the very first Maccas on Earth.
I've occasionally seen devices that don't work well with USB3.0 but will work with USB2.0 flash drives. I can't imagine that is the case with the scope but it's another thing to try if you run into a similar situation with another device.
Dave, my recommendation is to use a 4/8GB usb 2.0 drive, use Rufus, and format MBR+FAT32. That should give you the best compatibility in my experience.
Electronics is all about contacts and can therefore have only two kinds of faults: contact present where not needed or contact missing where required...
Good luck when you actually have to repair one of these... "sorry that mains connector can only be replaced by one of our qualified service technicians"
My quickest ‘repair’ was switching the correct input selector switch on a ‘dead’ CRT... I didn't charge anything for the ‘repair’ (duration : less than a minute to power on and press the switch), transporting the 24" monitor (42kg) was punishment enough for the owner...
I had a similar fix. I was working on a Vector monitor and and I fixed the problem, after reassembly it wouldn't power up and I was getting annoyed... a friend walks over looks at it, then reaches in and connects a connector I forgot to connect... Monitor worked fine... SMH...
At least you looked for simple issues first. How many of us analyzed and tried to fix already complicated issues, but somehow, we didn't notice the simple issues.
The same problem as with your solar panels. You must have a great experience now. Sell it to the world. (but I would like to see an intermediate step with a blue multimeter).
nothing new - tektronix used to build their bigger very upmarket scope (forgot the model number) as a winxp machine in a scope formfactor (jetengine soundgenerator included) that was like 15- 20 years ago
Why would it have been unplugged in the first place?! What if it shorts out after you plug it in?! What if some circuitry might be dysfunctional, and to prevent it from being used, they made it faulty intentionally?!
Second case. 😉😁. Did you remember the dumpster high price osciloscope that has an unplugged cable as the only problem. You never said whar happend with it.

That all? Tom Evans would charge you £6,000

Mend it Mark's amp repair was easy by comparison.
A masterclass in fault tracing.

Keysight will do a copyright strike on this video - you showed internal parts!! Ask Mark and Louis, they know how to deal with that😅
You lost me with that thingy with the wires, could you draw a block diagram to help me understand? 😂
God yes. I'm an idiot with electronics, but a diagram would have helped more than "insert clicky bit in hole" :(
And have Keysight copyright stike me?
Discovered long ago that these modern inventions work much better when they are plugged in.

120V device in a 240V socket?
@@blockbertus It was a multi voltage device (240V capable) but a socket to socket connection will never work regardless!
@@iainw7084 Ohhh... I see. Oops.
After seeing the title, I immediately checked the video length. i fully expected a 30+ minute video. Good job Dave!
That's what Apple representatives think about when they say repair is too dangerous!
We've Got Fanspin!

Keysights lawyers gonna hit you hard for sharing all that IP!
He'll be fine as long as he doesn't draw a schematic of that NOT gate he repaired.
Looking at the stuff shown on The Singal Path i think Dave will be fine. But only because he didnt remove the shielding.
Dave your skills are amazing, I'd have just chucked that in the bin
Let that generous bin be at my reach ;) I would love have such resourceful bin nearby ;)

Satisfying click. Well done!
I figured it would be an internal connection fault but I was suspecting it to be a blown fuse! Good on ya for that world's quickest repair job!
You must of been watching that crazy aussie bloke, you're getting better at these more complicated repairs. ;)
The one who always says "don't turn it on, take it apart!"? Yeah... I think I saw a few of his videos...
Can't stand that guys voice.

One day I will get your level of diagnostic skill!
Best repair ever!
The best kind of "repairs": fixing the classic did you plug in every connector?
Not the first time. Won't be the last time...
finally some quality content
I think that’s the first EEVBlog repair video where you’ve actually successfully repaired something!!😅
You are a genius!
This was a complex repair, nice job!

I knew it was some sort of power input issue.. I'll send you my consulting bill.. I'll even give you a discount this time
Maan. Hat off! At least it was 'only' a forgotten connector... 😅

I thought he was going to thump it on the side and it would start working.
If your hammer doesn't fix the problem...get a bigger hammer!
I really need to become better at diagnosing electronic problems.

I'm a professional.
Wait until he gets the bill for the repair.
Have you tried turning it off and on? 😂

Nice !

The soft power LED on threw me, I thought it couldn't be the motherboard power.
beyond economical repair I think, I'll happily take it off your hands for $100

Bored Dave ? lol Updated Firmware "Hi Hope You like Your New Toaster "
Reading NTFS? Is this a Windows system inside?
Linux is also be able to read (and write) NTFS ...
But the file extension of the update should give a small hint on that .... exe

also current rigols run on android believe it or not
Older scopes ran windows CE but newer ones android/Linux
Haha, well it works again. A quick squiz revealed the problem.
Windows will allow you to save file names with spaces and periods in them. Other operating systems might complain.
Bronze medal :-D
Can you make a slow-motion? That was too fast for me
Line voltage too low to jump the gap.
someone is getting old too 😁
Cease and desist letter from Keysight in 3, 2, 1…
