For some products, cryogenic grinding is necessary to ensure the highest possible product quality. Examples of this are sensitive APIs in the pharmaceutical industry or spices, whose aroma and flavour are better preserved this way. The material to be ground is first embrittled by cooling, usually with liquid nitrogen, and then ground.
