    Huey Freeman is my favourite Boondocks character. He speaks the truth, regardless of what people think about him. He sees the world around him, and tries to change it into something better, even though he's hated for what he does and the beliefs he holds. We can learn so much from him.

    • @AuspexAO
      @AuspexAO Рік тому +76

      I love Huey too, but he's also still a kid who doesn't understand that the truth is not something people will ever accept or even understand. I always thought that a grown up Huey would learn to be a little more manipulative like Riley, and Riley would learn to be more just like Huey.

    • @kenjutsukata1o1
      @kenjutsukata1o1 Рік тому +47

      @@karabomasibi2331a lot of folks fail to realize that Huey is a parody too. While Riley is a parody of black youth ignorance, Huey is a parody of black youth 'enlightened' ignorance. Folk just perceive him as the correct one because he's level-headed and comes across more reasonable. Stuff like how he's extremely 'us-vs-them', believing Jesus was black (he would have either been brown or olive-skinned with curly black hair, being a Jewish person in the middle-east and all), and his 'everything is white People's fault' outlook. At his core he embodies the faux-intellectualism found in youth of all cultures. That being said, his 'outside the box' thinking makes him more open to learning new things, so he's a lot less flawed than Riley in that regard.

    Am Black. From Chicago. Can confirm. My older brother used to hoop with R. Kelly after school. High school. Where R. Kelly always went to pick up teenage girls. 😐
    Then they had the nerve to cry over Aaliyah's death but turn around and worship R. Kelly. This was a point of great confusion to me growing up. Everyone knowing what he did yet expecting all the kids to dance to all his music at family events. Insanity. I'm willing to bet that if it weren't little Black girls people would gaf.

      This episode makes it look like the reason Kelly got a pass was because of Black women primarily, followed by black people in general.
      It also downplays the seriousness of what he did by giving full airing to the conservative "personal responsibility" defense while limiting anti-Kelly arguments to "but it's illegal!" No portrayal or mention of the manipulation, coercion, or terrorizing the girls were subjected to.
      As with most boondocks episodes it's a fundamentally anti woman/anti black regressive product framed in an extremely superficial veneer of blackness.
      If you're wondering why people don't care about black girls, it's because they're fed a steady media diet of stuff like this.

    As a big Aaliyah fan, something to add is ppl in 90s treated Aaliyah like a grown adult. Black girls are often seen as maturing faster so ppl victim-blamed her more than actually looking at Kelly himself as a predator. That’s why no criminal case really came out of him & Aaliyah’s marriage. Really wish she was here to tell her story bc so many ppl try to speak for her & we’ll just never know her side exactly.
