    Very helpful. I have been searching for an easy way for 4'11' wife to get into our pick-ups and vans. This is just what I am looking for and will give it a try, thanks for posting.

    Great idea!! My husband has drop foot & has fallen 4 times in past few weeks. He was going to Pysical therapy & doing great- improving!! This has been a big setback for him. He must have reinsured his back or his knee or both. Hes really struggling with a new pain in the front of his leg!!

    I have one and keep it in my husband's big SUV. I'm going to keep using it even when my hip is replaced and heeled. It works great!

    1:36 That grip. Right there. That would help me a lot getting in and out of the car.

    Awesome! I wish I'd had these when I was driving my Saturn SC2, which was very low to the ground. Bad knees meant I either fell into the seat, or had to use the door frame and steering wheel to get out. Thanks so much for all the work and research you put into your channel.

    What a helpful video. Thanks for addressing me, the one who needs this info rather than assuming, like so many do, that I wouldn’t likely be a UA-cam user and someone with mobility issues.

    If you don't have them then running boards are about the best aid I can think of. I have put them on every pickup I use. And avoid the " nerf bars". They are rounded and can be very slick. The handles on the A pillars are good too. Or right above the door. I call them " oh shit" handles. My right leg is weak so I step on the running board with my left, grab a handle or the steering wheel, step up, and swing my right leg in and sit down.

      About how much does it cost to put a running board in? What kind of worker does this for you?

    Hi. Does the car cane require batteries? Thank you for making such a helpful video!

    • @EquipMeOT
      @EquipMeOT  Рік тому

      This one does as it has a a small light on it, but this isn't necessary to make it work. There are other varieties that don't have a light and therefore don't require batteries.

    This is a great idea, because (I have multiple sclerosis) however using the door to help lift me up caused issues of the door now it cannot open or close smoothly, and it's expensive to try to have it repaired, what do you suggest?

    I had knee on my right side two years ago and surgery on both feet almost three months ago. I’m non weight barring right now. I’m currently living with my aunt who’s also my caregiver and the height difference between my wheelchair and the passenger/driver seats in her car is pretty big. I have a sliding board but it’s not long enough any solutions to fix this?? And if I were to get another what size should I get? BTW I have CP and I had Tendon Release Surgery by way of External Fixation on the right knee, Release of the right ankle and tendon transfer on the left ankle. My aunt drives a Kia Seltos. I would appreciate any suggestions. Thanks

    My grandma requires mod assistance with car transfers due hemiparesis on the right side from an old CVA. I think that the window strap would be helpful because she could help pull herself up using her left arm, however I'm afraid that the car door would come swinging back. Do you have any recommendations for a family member to stabilize the door during a stand pivot transfer?

    • @EquipMeOT
      @EquipMeOT  3 роки тому +2

      I usually block the door with my back to keep it from closing while pulling on the strap. It’s a good question, I’ll have to think of there is a better solution 🤔

    I have a condition called Pudendal Nueralgia. ( pelvic- rectal pain) & it can be painful for me to sit in a normal car. We bought a large Honda Civic SUV. We took the back seats out & put a mattress down so I can lay down in the back. while a helper drives me to a doctor appointment etc. Now 4:04 we need to get something to hold me down in case we’re in a car accident. There’s a seatbelt for the back seats which I think can be utilized, but we need a professional to make sure I don’t go flying in case of a car accident. This is a Civic Honda Civic mini van - 3 rows of removable seats. It was on a 2 year lease. We bought it from a dealer. It’s just like new. Do you know who can help make it safe for me to lay down on a mattress in back, while the car I’d driving? We live in The Oaks in Calabasas, not far from the shopping area named The Commons, on Calabasas Rd.

    The strap isnt helpful if you are using an Uber or Lyft service, but I'll consider the other tool. I'm not sure how it would work for getting into the rear seat of an Uber. Many of them are SUVs and very high seats. I'm only 5 ft tall and i have had difficulty getting in and out. You never really know what kind of vehicle will show up. I always take a cane when i have to take an uber, but that doesn't always help. You might consider a video for people without their own cars.

    Can the harness piece be used to also close the door once seated? We are having trouble reaching far enough to close the door once seated.

    • @EquipMeOT
      @EquipMeOT  5 місяців тому +1

      Yes! The handle can definitely help with closing the door.

    I've ordered these but now I'm wondering if they will work for me. I have to be able to drive myself and so will be getting in on the driver's side. My left leg is very weak. To get into the driver's seat, I'll need to push up with my right hand and left leg. Correct?

    • @janetunderwood2376
      @janetunderwood2376 3 роки тому

      Never mind......I forgot that I will be facing backwards to the seat and therefore will be able to push up with my "good" (right) leg. Duh......

      Yes! I’ve used some different combinations but it depends on car type, disability type and environment.

    A problem with the strap device. When the strap is in place, using the window switch closes the window fine. But when using the orto close facility (when leaving the car) the window bounces back from closed to open - repeatedly. The strap in the rubber channel is causing this.

    Ok. What about the Drivers side. The majority of people are right handed. The window strap would help, but the cane would be awkward.

    • @EquipMeOT
      @EquipMeOT  2 роки тому

      I find that unless the right arm is the only option, most people can use the left are for support as well.
