- It’s BATH TIME! Come along with me on my 3rd visit to the beautiful city of Bath, England in September 2020. Bath is a stunning centre of Georgian architecture, steeped in the spa culture and high fashion of the Jane Austen era. In this video, I share my wander around some popular architectural sights of Bath, including Bath Abbey, the Roman Baths, The Circus, Royal Crescent and Pulteney Bridge. And I FINALLY get to try a couple varieties of the famous Sally Lunn Bunn and give you my review! We also visit Alexandra Park to get a fabulous view of the whole city, before heading out of town and showing you a little gem we found in the Widcombe area of Bath. If you are interested in Somerset, also check out our other videos of wonderful places we visited elsewhere in the county!

Yeah bath is a beautiful place , can you believe that the Romans built it, us Brits were part of the Roman empire,
You have a good eye for scenery. Really Dara the scenery. In your videos is beautiful,
Good job
Hope you enjoyed bath I only saw the Roman baths on a school trip as a child. The bath is absolutely amazing. There aren't that many intact Roman baths left in the world ,
Sorry for rambling on,
Great video Dara👍
You didn't ramble! I love comments, so appreciate you taking the time to leave one. BTW, did you know that Bath has FREE Walking Tours every day? They are operated by the mayor's office. I just found that out, and did one a few weeks ago. I filmed it and will publish that video one of these months... or years... haha
Another Lovely Vlog, Bath is so Gorgeous and Maybe even more Famous now Because of The Royal Crescent which they used in Bridgerton which I Loved, The Drone Footage as Always was Lovely, Look forward to seeing Where You go to Next, Best Wishes to you Both.
Thanks so much! Yes, Bridgerton and all the Jane Austen and Regency Romances are definitely increasing interest in British towns like Bath! Next week's travel vlog is of our quick trip to Wales. And then I take a break from travel videos for some food reviews and British cooking videos... until May when we will be in CHELTENHAM! So excited to get back to my home away from home! Of course, Cheltenham was also a spa town like Bath back in the day... just much smaller and less popular ;-)
So much beautiful footage and gorgeous architecture!! I definitely want to visit Bath and try Sally Lunn buns while I’m there. They looked scrumptious. 💖👍🏼😋
It was a fun day! Even though my husband was not as big a fan of the Sally Lunn buns as I was, I still think it was worth doing. I love trying the local special foods!
I love your enthusiasm for all things british
Thanks so much! I'm just a crazy old lady who needed a place to talk about Britain all day every day so... UA-cam let me! haha

Thanks for the tour! Cheers to Bath and the wonderful adventure
It is such a beautiful city to visit! Are you going there on your trip?
Oooh the roman baths sound amazing!
Definitely worth a visit! They are very ancient and fascinating!
Bath is such a beautiful city. Wonderful videography and fun commentary! Great job, Y'all!!
Thank you so much. It is a wonderful place, and I was proper chuffed we had such lovely weather that day to see it!
Bath looks lovely! I haven't had the chance to visit but obviously I'd love to!
Yes, Bath is definitely your kind of place! You would love it. But maybe come visit me in Cheltenham first? A smaller "spa town" that is not so crowded and very walkable❤
@@MagentaOtterTravels I'd love to, but this whole "situation" in Germany needs to go away first! :(
@@MissAnglophilia I agree! Things change quickly, so I’m hoping in your case things improve quickly over the coming weeks and months!
Gorgeous scenery. That view, from the park, over the city was incredible.
Thanks! We were so lucky to have the perfect weather for it. I assume you and your hubby enjoy walking up steep slopes to see a view as well, right?
@@MagentaOtterTravels When I visited Bath, I used one of those hop-on hop-off tourist buses. You get great views and a very interesting commentary
@@jillhobson6128 those buses are great! When we first visited Edinburgh Ian had just destroyed his ankle so we were forced to ride a Hop on Hop off Double Decker bus (Ian usually doesn't want to)... and it was wonderful! Like you say, you get all the historical context and the ability to cover the whole city in a day. Of course, I've also done those bus tours in London as well.
We LOVE visiting Bath!!! Putney Bridge and the Royal Crescent are the best! We really like getting afternoon tea at the Royal Crescent Hotel and sitting in their back garden. We stayed at that same Abbey Hotel on our trip to Bath in 2013 when it was a Best Western, so it was cool to see what Marriott did with the property in your video!
Wow, that is so incredible that you stayed at the same property and it was a BW back then! How fun that you could see the before/after! I know y'all are frequent travelers and I'm wondering what hotel chain(s) you try to frequent. As I'm about to gush about in my video tomorrow... we are in LOVE with Marriott. What's your fave?
Oh to be in Bath again...! What a superb video tour of the city, complete with Sally Lunn's Bunns (a 'must' next time we're there). Apart from the excellent drone shots, I must commend you on your slow pans, especially the 360 around the circus, all of which enhanced the programme. Very enjoyable.
The view is worth the climb, isn't it!
When I see a great view, I always regret my moaning in the climb up!! 😂
Thanks for your kind compliments 🙏
You were so lucky to get a nice sunny day, it makes wandering around Bath so much better! I've never heard of a Sally Lunn bun, so that's on the list for a future visit! Plus the shop/house was very cute.
Yes I agree! We were incredibly lucky during our whole trip to England!❤️🏴 Thanks so much for watching!
Stunning video! Our son visited Bath a few years ago and loved it, I can see why! We too love using our points (feels like you’re getting a free stay!). Looking forward to Wales video it’s on the top of my list! ~Cara 😊
Yes, it’s easy to know why bath is such a popular tourist destination. And I didn’t even talk about all the Jane Austen connections! I hope you enjoy the Wales video, although it really is just a tiny taste of Wales. With several hundred castles in that tiny country, it is a place I love to explore. Definitely planning to spend more time there later this year!!❤️🏴
@@MagentaOtterTravels Your May trip is coming up quickly!!! How exciting!! 😊
Ian's look when you are talking about the steep slopes you had to walk because of him is just priceless....!!!! 🤣 But I have to admit that Ian has never been wrong and all the views you got (or at least those you have shown us) were just gorgeous.
My feet were very bad at this point (with the plantar fasciitis). That's why Dara went exploring around Bath by herself, however, I was determined to take in one view no matter how painful it was going to be.
We went to Hawaii for our 10th anniversary. I got home and everyone asked how I enjoyed laying on the beach ... but I said I didn't do much of that. Mostly just hiked up to the top of peaks to look at the amazing views of the island!
Worth the walk up. Quite the view.
Absolutely! Bath is such a beautiful city!
Wow! Loved this video!
Thanks Sandra!
I had the absolute pleasure of serving with the Gurkhas for a while,I’m happy to see a Nepalese restaurant in Bath.
That's really cool. I remember them being a big asset to the British Army during the Falklands War.
I haven't met many people from Nepal in my life, but the food in that restaurant was delicious and I would happily go back again!
Welcome to Bath . .. not far from my house.. it’s take 20 minutes walking along the canal to town...lovely video’s..

I don't want to overpromise because this was a TINY trip to Wales this time. We were just barely over the border. But I am so looking forward to spending MORE time in Wales this summer!!!
I really need to learn how to use a drone. This footage is amazing!
Thank you but honestly there's not much to it. Drones these days are really easy to fly since they are loaded with sensors that prevent you from running into things or even flying in areas where you shouldn't, like near an airport. In an hour or two you could be as good at flying a drone as I am (which isn't very good). I bought mine second hand off eBay which I think is a good option.
Thanks so much! Ian is humble, but he did a lot of practising. I think the drone footage does add a lot of added dimension to my videos. I'm grateful for it! But I'm too intimidated to fly it myself. I'm staying focused on all the other filming and photos, because I already have my hands fulll!! You get it... being a solo content creator one-woman-show is a LOT!
Caught up with your Bath video, this is my most favourite place in the UK. Love your video, the Sally Lunn Bun treat and the drone footage of the outside village. Beautiful video 😍
It IS a pretty fabulous place! Thanks for watching! Have you tried the Sally Lunn bun as well as the Bath bun? I wish I had been there long enough to try both... NEXT TIME!!

Where is your husband from? The last time we were their we missed bath ran out of time. My husband from Birmingham. Were going back to stay in 2023 to live. I'm american from ILLINOIS. Were retiring.👏👏👏
We need to talk! I grew up in Illinois. Ian is complicated... his parents are both from Birmingham, he was born in Jamaica and grew up mostly in California. I recently retired and we are getting ready to move to Cheltenham for the summer. Our long term plan is UK in summer and US for rest of the year. Congrats on retiring! I'd love to hear more about your plans! You can message me on FB or IG if you want. I'm magentaotter on both. Or email is magentaotter@gmail.com
Such a beautiful city. No wonder you go back, and back. I've meant to go for a while, and you've inspired me. I may make this my destination for that jaunt i mentioned last week, when we're fully out of lockdown. As ever, the footage was fantastic. Really showing off the city, both from the ground, and the air. And thanks for the tips on where to stay, and what to see.
PS I found some of that Isle of Mull cheese. Very good. Creamy, good texture, bit of a bite to it, not too strong, and with those cheddery nutty notes to it. I asked about Wookey Hole, but they just looked at me blank... The lady looked it up on google while i was there. Made a mental note of it, but didn't sound like they'd be getting any in any time soon. The search continues :)
Thanks so much for your cheese report, John! Remind me what county you are in? (I can't keep track!!)
I bet a cheese shop would carry either Wookey Hole OR Isle of Mull. I'm impressed and thrilled that you got to taste Isle of Mull! And chuffed that you liked it!
The best time to try Wookey Hole will be when you are in Somerset going to visit Bath!!

Yeah, unfortunately I would have rather had a chocolate donut or a good chocolate bar.
Nice film , Bath (the real locals pronounce it with a short 'A' too), is uniquely ordered for an English town/city, a bit like how London might have looked if Sir Christopher Wren had got his way. The word 'Cheap' by the way, (or Chip, Chipping) is from Old English 'Ceap', and means Market, not something a bit tacky or inexpensive.
Thanks for that great background info, Mr. Saunders! I had no idea that Cheap meant Market! Makes sense. I love visiting all the Cotswold villages that have Sheep Street in them ;-) And I also love Market towns!
Mike Saunders. I live only 30 miles from Bath and have visited many times. I have never ever heard a local pronounce Bath with a flat A'.
@@valeriedavidson2785 Try visiting some of the housing estates or go to watch a few Bath City games. There is more to Bath than expatriate Londoners selling teas.
@@mikesaunders4775 I am fully aware of that. However I still say although some locals may speak with a local accent, the flat 'A' is part of a northern accent and not heard unless they are northerners.
@@valeriedavidson2785 In a generally rhotic area such as the west country words like Bath or Path will be pronounced as Baaaath or Paaath, rather than Barth.

Wow, gorgeous, loved every minute of this!! I had no idea that Bath was famous for such amazing architecture. So her is my "dumb American" question: What IS the Royal Crescent?? Is it a whole bunch of apartments (flats) all side by side? Where would anybody park their car? Are there yards (gardens) out behind them? Oh, and the buns, SO yummy (scrummy) looking. You said you were trying the sweet ones; are there savory flavors as well? Thank you again, both of you. As usual, I feel like I have been right there traveling along!!
The Royal Crescent is an arc of individual Georgian town houses joined together. Each house has it's own garden at the rear. A few of the houses in the middle have been joined to make a hotel. The house on the right hand end is a museum of Georgian life.
Thank you Bobby. This for sale brochure for one of the townhouses will answer a lot of your questions search.savills.com/property-detail/gbbhrsbts190268. There are 30 townhouses with each one being about 7,700 sf in size (though only 10 are still townhouses). They do have gardens behind them and when they were built they would have had mews behind them for storing carriages and keeping horses.
One of them has been kept as a museum so you can see what they were originally like inside.
@Roy Cousins, thanks for answering the question much better than I could have done!
The Sally Lunn Buns have both sweet and savoury. Like Yorkshire Puddings (more on those in a few weeks!) they can go either way. I only tried two sweet types because that is what I figured would be best. But of course now I want to go back to Bath and do a side-by-side comparison with a Bath Bun which was Jane Austen's favourite!
I think you've covered Bath in your trips...did you go around the American Museum and Gardens as well?
