I never heard this song cuz I grew up with a vista computer at my dad’s and playing on my moms old windows 7 computer on the nick jr website on the version of internet explorer that came with the os so the song I always was stuck with was “kalimba” by Mr. Scruff and “new stories-highway blues”
Inachu Ikimasho Im going to have to strongly disagree with you. The first line of the song says for millions of years in millions of homes, which means that this is something that has repeated a ton of times with no specific people, talking about things everyone does. Which would make sense and sounds like the theme of lots of Talking Heads songs. He even says "I work and I sleep and I dance and I'm dead." Which means he is describing himself by saying the things everyone does. Kind of reminds me of Road to Nowhere
Spencer Lemay "The first line of the song says for millions of years in millions of homes, which means that this is something that has repeated a ton of times with no specific people," Of course because it is of first hand account. He tries to fit in and at first he may very well seem autistic and bit retarded but as the centuries pass he starts to fit in with the groove and swing of the human condition. Makes for a good movie or tv show.
I don't know how but whenever I listen to this song on my Windows XP, it always seem like David Byrne is singing a song standing in front of me. Every beat of this song is crystal clear. Pleasant to hear.
You have no idea how much this song has affected my channel. Since my friend and I discovered this song on his computer years ago, we've used it in at least 20 of our videos. It's just such a classic for us and I've heard this so many times I can't even count. Yeah four it? Just such a classic.
This is different than the one included with XP. The only difference: the song has been edited to remove drug references (as well as probably a little amount of lyrics).
For all the Windows XP people, this is NOT the Windows XP song. This is the original version. Windows removed the verse "I never watch TV except when I'm stoned" when they bought the song.
Finally. I found the uncensored version, were he sings: "I never watch TV, except when I'm stoned" instead of "we're eatin' off plates and we kiss with our tongue"
I notice that just now. I memorized this song from our old windows pc as a kid (it was the only song we had in media player back then), so I was like "wait, that's not how I remember the lyrics!"
woke up this morning and for some reason this song is stuck in my head, I like everyone else it seems remember this song from Windows! It's a great tune!
I have been looking for this truck since i grew up, my first time listening to this song was when i got my first pc that was 2005 i liked it a lot finally hahaaa.
This is so weird I used to love this song all those years ago when I got my first laptop and now I'm listening to this again and suddenly I understand the lyrics o.O
To a lot of people DB's song writing is stupid and talentless but if you really listen to his lyrics, they're brilliant! DB takes everyday things and experiences like life and really puts them in perspective. He uses simple analogies to be able to get his often complex point across. DB is amongst the greatest songwriters out there.

I remember listening to the radio edit version of this song on my HP Pavilion 710 CTO PC with Windows XP Home Edition back in 2002 when I was a kid.
I remember seeing a talking heads video on MTV in 1984 when I was a kid, lucky no PC's back then! ;-)
Was working at best buy pc home office at the time. got played all the time for... reasons.
Yes🎉
My first song on my first PC with Windows XP
Alex Ermolaev Same here he must have earned a fortune in royalties
+Michael Shearing Probably used it because they could get away with paying a one time fee.
+Alex Ermolaev The song is really about an immortal who does not understand emotions or empathy and he learns them through the centuries.

I wish there were more videos of that with the original version.
I notice that just now. I memorized this song from our old windows pc as a kid (it was the only song we had in media player back then), so I was like "wait, that's not how I remember the lyrics!"

I like that it cuts to a camera angle that shows the secondary vocalist when he's singing (most of the time).
