  • We unbox the massive Dungeons & Dragons Icons of the Realms sailing ship, the Falling Star. It's a worthy vessel for high-seas RPG adventures and tabletop miniature wargaming.

    I'm ordering one of these for my campaign. Not even telling my players. Going to blow their minds when I bring this thing out and set it on the table!

      We’ve been thinking about setting ours on an arctic battle mat to create an icebound ship scenario, a’ la The Terror.

    It's nice... it really is... but £200 is just insane when you can get wooden 3D ship kits for D&D for £50

    • @oldhammered
      @oldhammered  5 років тому +2

      Hi Alex. That sounds interesting. What kits do you like?

      @@oldhammered Hi Skirmish Wargames. These are the kits I use for my pirate campaign: www.etsy.com/uk/shop/TabletopThings?ref=simple-shop-header-name&listing_id=690896803
      They're evidently not as detailed as the Falling Star set but they outline the details on the wood very nicely and the kits have fully magnetised components, meaning you can pack them flat and assemble them within seconds at each session, which is very nice when you're carrying a small fleet to each session.
      You can get a very wide variety of ship sizes and types, with optional sails and lifeboats and even optional figureheads for the larger models. Naturally the lightwood colour of the ship makes it east to paint for a bit more customisation too.
      I've found these kits to be very useful for 3D layered roleplay and combat, and you can the largest models for a much cheaper price than one Falling Star,
      Of course, the falling star ship is beautifully made and wonderfully detailed, but I don't know many DM's who could justify the price of it, especially DM's such as myself who run campaigns where ship vs ship combat is a key part of the experience and therefore two or more boats are needed!

      But those are not even close to this beauty. What you are talking about are basically a three platform ship like that one

      Yeah the pricing is just outrageous considering I was able to build a three tiered galleon complete with barrels, tables, stools, cannons, and more out of wood and foam for $25. There are plenty of tutorials on UA-cam on how to build your own. No prior experience needed.

    The stairs that are removable are the plastic ones on the deck that lead up to the upper deck of the forecastle and the upper deck of the stern/captain's cabin. The rear ones were a bit tighter or harder to remove with mine. Removing them allows you to flip the main deck to grid/not-grid. The doors attached to the stairs leading into the forecastle or captain's cabin move as well. The sails can be left as is or raised/deployed.

    Loot studios resin printed ship from ships ahow is by fary favorite ship for tabletop gaming.
    Repears sophias revenge looks cool but there are so many negative reviews for warped pieces that dont fit correctly, etc.
    The only complaints I have heard about the falling stat is the fact "card boatd is used" (its mdf not cardboard). Yet as thats the only complaints ive heard its a great overall ship.

    BTW the rear sail bottom should be low end forward, it is lower above the main deck IRL. Both crows nests should be forward on the masts. Nice Kraken.

    what do you get if you build a modern cargo ship out of wood? then you get a ship like this 🤣Yikes! please do look for better boats, like the ships from blood and plunder, this has nothing to do with any real boat from the age of sail or any historical period.

    • @oldhammered
      @oldhammered  Рік тому

      It's a fantasy RPG ship, so probably designed with story telling in mind, rather than historical accuracy. The different levels give characters somewhere to go and make it easier to move the miniatures. The company also sells flying ship models.
