Stella's book of lectures on Chekov, Ibsen, & Strindberg is very illuminating. Although I studied with Sanford Meisner for years, I have enormous respect for Stella Adler. She was a great standard bearer in the theater. Of course, they were great friends and shared a great deal of the same values. How I wish I could have studied with Stella as well!

@mdgrant99 - Given her background and vast theatrical culture, Stella was unique among American acting teachers. I studied with Sandy Meisner, who always said that he learned a lot from Stella. He clearly adored her. Each of them contributed something enduring in American acting. Stella's parents, Jacob & Sarah, were considered great actors. Her work with Stanislavski certainly makes her unique. Along with Harold Clurman, Stella & Sandy represent a vital force in the theater.

@starlightmayra - Stella's parents, Jacob & Sarah Adler, were stars in the Yiddish Theatre. Stella began playing leads when she was 16! She went on to study with Richard Bolevslavski & Maria Ouspenskaya before she ever joined The Group Theater. Her family called her "Stella Serious". What an absolutely extraordinary woman!

Yes, she was Jewish. She was an amazing known actress in the Yiddish Theatre before she joined The Group Theatre.

She was a Yiddish Theater actress. Tall, Blond hair, blue eyed and Jewish and very beautiful. Molly Picon must had felt very insecure next to her.
