Beyond question the 90's was the true golden age of cinema, that is a fact. On IMDB 104 of the 500 greatest movies of all time are 90's movies, 1/5th! 4 of the top 20, 1/5th! 26 of the top 100, 1/4! 2 of the top 5, almost half! 5 movies from the 90's are in the top 20 most oscar winners. One of the 3 tied for most oscars is Titanic (11 oscar wins) More ORIGINAL stories were told in the 90's than any other decade. Remakes were relatively rare. Re-boots didn't exist. Totally original film scripts like Forrest Gump, Pulp Fiction and The Green Mile set the bar for how good movies could be. Titanic showed us the PERFECT blend of digital and practical effects (it may never age). T2, Phantom Menace and The Matrix changed the way movies were made forever (for better or worse). Saving Private Ryan left you with your jaw hanging open. The 90's were the peak of hollywood cinema. It's indisputable.
Quite the opinionated list with the rankings. Also there are some big glaring omissions of some excellent movies from this list. I commend you for your bravery for releasing this list.
Please do other videos coming from other BBC polls, like its "Greatest TV series from the XXIst century" or its "Greatest films made by women", I love your content ❤️❤️❤️

@@luomodagliocchidifalco9421 Considered a significant turning point in the history of the Hollywood blockbuster, Independence Day was at the forefront of the large-scale disaster film and sci-fi resurgence of the mid-late 1990s. It was released worldwide on July 3, 1996, but began showing on July 2 (the same day the film's story begins) in original release as a result of a high level of anticipation among moviegoers. The film received mixed reviews, with praise for the performances, musical score and visual effects, but criticism for its characters. It grossed over $817.4 million worldwide,[2] becoming the highest-grossing film of 1996 and the second-highest-grossing film ever at the time, behind Jurassic Park (1993). The film won the Academy Award for Best Visual Effects and was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Sound. 🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄
It's a fantastic movie with alot of depth and use of allegory and mirroring aswell as amazing choice of music. However no1 is still questionable but Kubrick is the goat of filmmaking
@@fabianroberntz3545 It's still odd a mass amount of people would vote for it, assuming that's what indie wire did. You'd expect something like the shawshank redemption to win.
LOL..what a ridiculous list, especially to put Eyes Wide Shut at #1, a horrible movie, should be #7985. Also, movies like Close Up and Hoop Dreams that shouldn't even make the list are in the top 5 but movies like Saving Private Ryan and Silence of the Lambs is way down the list..smh
Um hello, where is Forest Gump and the green mile and American beauty? You missed so many better movies too that should have been way before more than half the rubbish you put on here. Good will hunting, Fallen with Denzel Washington, sixth sense, seven, i could go on for ages but eyes wide shut is hardly number 1. Original Buffy, chocolate, cruel intentions. I'm sure i could neme way more too but yeah.
I’m not a fan of it either. Also not a fan of Usual Suspects which didn’t make this list. I almost like this list more for the movies that aren’t on here that everyone insists needs to be.
DDLJ 🤮🤮. Bro, just make a list of English-language films and stop pushing your apparently worldwide "greatest films" BS if you haven't seen enough of Indian cinema. Even if you were so desperate to add a token mainstream Bollywood film (which is just one language), you could've added Rangeela instead of the yucky cringe DDLJ. An actual decent "Indian" entry would have been something like Iruvar. Just stick to "English-speaking" cinema please. Or if you want to stick to your "global" list, better call it "Greatest 90s Hollywood, European, Iranian and Japanese movies plus a token Bollywood movie".
I'm surprised that the Usual Suspects and American History X weren't on here.
Why do I feel like out of the 300 movies I've seen from the 90s, this list had, like, 6 of them?
I did not expect Eyes Wide Shut to make the top of this list

I like eyes wide shut, but #1 of the 90's?!
So many great movies were left off this list for movies I never heard of.
That's a good thing. What's the point of going through a list of movies you've already watched?
Name of the piano sound that starts to play at #35 ?

Indeed it is. How careless of me. Thanks for pointing it out.@@Mr.Goodkat
This guys idea of where these movies should be places is rediculouse. He puts Eyes wide shut at #1, over Titanic and Schindler's list. What a joke.
EWS is a better movie that Titanic and SL and Kubrick is a far greater director than Spielberg and Cameron
i see Robert De Niro i click
Beyond question the 90's was the true golden age of cinema, that is a fact.
On IMDB
104 of the 500 greatest movies of all time are 90's movies, 1/5th!
4 of the top 20, 1/5th!
26 of the top 100, 1/4!
2 of the top 5, almost half!
5 movies from the 90's are in the top 20 most oscar winners.
One of the 3 tied for most oscars is Titanic (11 oscar wins)
More ORIGINAL stories were told in the 90's than any other decade.
Eyes wide shut ❤❤❤
I love that movie,
Good top 100 in deep
90s had the best film in my opnion by far..
American Beauty, The Shawshank redenption, Forrest Gump, .... ???
the crow????
Terminator 2 at 57💀 nr 1 with no movie coming close
No Alive? Summer of sam, Boondock saints, Menace2society, Blood in blood out, La haine, Natural born killaz, True lies, Payback, Mouth of madness?? My gen z ass can come up with a better list than this lmao
No trainspotting, the sheltering sky...
Kids, Jacobs Ladder, Predator 2, Gotti weren't here too, Normie list
@@JuleZz__znot a normie list, you just don’t know many of those not-american titles
OMG!!! Forrest Gump, American Beauty, Independence Day, Ghost, Home Alone, Edward Scissorhands…
Independence Day 🤣🤣
@@luomodagliocchidifalco9421 Considered a significant turning point in the history of the Hollywood blockbuster, Independence Day was at the forefront of the large-scale disaster film and sci-fi resurgence of the mid-late 1990s.
🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄
i love porco but no shot it’s above mononoke
Can someone put the name of the music themes on the clip?
GHOST...LION KING..where???
🤣🤣🤣
I couldn’t disagree more but it’s good to see what people like
Eyes wide shut # 1 lmao
Well, Kubrick was a great director and this was his last masterpiece
No Shawshank Redemption = 👎👎👎👎👎
Wow, yeah this list is messed up
Lol!!! I’m sorry, just that I didn’t expect to see eyes wide shut take 1st place home
One of the best film ever..
stop incoming documentaries in lists about movies
- huge hoop dreams fan
the fifth element?
no saving private ryan or shawshank redemption. what about forest gump.? lame
Saving Private Ryan was on this list, just ridiculously way too low. Forrest Gump wasn't on here.
Three very overrated movie.
Where's Shawshak?
Dead Man (1995)
1:07 Léon: The Pedo :o this creep made fr
Leon is actually a child in the body of a big guy
Terminator 2 & the matrix must be on top two great movies of the 90s
Horrible list order🙄
Ghost dog way of the samurai should not be on this list…
ok where tf is jerry maguire
Are you serious? 🤣🤣🤣
@@luomodagliocchidifalco9421have u not seen that movie
@@d5tocchinitocchini531 Unfortunately, I’ve seen it. It’s not that bad, but not as good to be one of the best of the nineties.
I been telling myself that it’s in no particular order so I could sleep at night… 😂
Eyes wide shut is nonsense
Disagree with this.
Worst list ever, eyes wide shut is garbage
💯 It was then and still now
lol wtf there are a lot of crap movies in this list
Such as?
🫰
this list is aweful
Bollox and far too many inaccessible films..
Inaccessibile? Why?
Objectively terrible list .
Why? What would you have changed?
Is not a terrible list, and thanks to good Shawshank redemption is out, I hate that movie.
I’m not a fan of it either. Also not a fan of Usual Suspects which didn’t make this list. I almost like this list more for the movies that aren’t on here that everyone insists needs to be.
I am just so tired of the utterly pretentious lists
Or if you want to stick to your "global" list, better call it "Greatest 90s Hollywood, European, Iranian and Japanese movies plus a token Bollywood movie".
this is not my list bro
@@thecozykinoshow my apologies. My comment is then directed to indiewire.
Very bad list
Shit list
It's not perfect, but pretty good
No way saving private Ryan's number 70....what world where you on....where you alive in the nineties?
Interesting but not enough French films . Some overated by American bias .
This is probably the worst list I’ve ever come across!!! Definitely a European
Let me guess, you’re from USA and you watch only American movies, am I correct?
