I had this same thought. It's easy to put Ausar in the bench developing role until you remind yourself by watching the tape. I think he's gonna be hard to keep from starting regardless of who we get. But I'd still go after Herb. Ausar can take guards and has some playmaking. He can play with Cade, Herb and Tecc. Give me that lineup!

Herb can play 2-3 and asuar 3-4 but with cade and Ivey as guard need two on ball/lead ball defender Pistons always won because defense

A real Pistons fan not talking down on Ausar. I do want us to go after Kelly Oubre. I think fitting for minutes would help him with his offensive improvements

I can't stand Oubre. Anyone else. I do agree he's got the right skills, except he can't pass and is erratic.. but I just don't think he's got the right attitude and connectivity. He is the guy who plays well when things are going well.. then he's a total frontrunner.

i’m just concerned his offense or lack thereof will keep him off the floor

When you say a “lack of offense” it is important to be specific. He lacks a consistent long range jump shot. He is amazing in offensive transition, cutting off the ball, hitting the offensive glass, attacking the rim in straight line drives, facilitation skills and ball handling to initiate offense, great feel for the game maintaining good spacing, making the extra pass, solid decision maker with the ball in his hands, gets to his spots, plays within himself.. AND an improving jump shooter who is increasing his range.

@@therockneverstops8261 lack of outside shooting whatsoever* i’m hopeful he can develop tho. that defense is a show all its own to watch

Ausar Thompson's rookie season stats-18% from three, 66% from the free-throw line, and just 8.3 points per game, clearly indicate that he is not a generational talent. His offensive limitations, inconsistent shooting, and lack of significant impact on the court underscore this reality. True generational talents make immediate, game-changing impacts. LeBron James averaged 20.9/5.9/5.5 while Kevin Durant averaged 20.3 points 4.4 rebounds and Luka averaged 21.2/7.8/6.
Pistons fans should be excited about his potential but realistic about his current abilities. Expecting Thompson to single-handedly transform the franchise is not grounded in the actual performance and trajectory of his game. Frankly speaking I feel that you are just gaslighting us Pistons fans with this statement

I was waiting on you to show up. 1st of all, actually listen to the video. His generational talent is on the defensive end, I went at-length to express this. Secondly, his offense reaches far beyond his shooting (seems response to @standardyeepz in this thread)

While the offensive side of the ball is certainly not a strength for Ausar (right now), comparing his scoring to Lebron, KD, and Luka in order to argue that he isn’t generational is just unfair. All three of those players played under an offensive scheme that was built around their skills right off the bat. Not only was the pistons scheme not effective to optimize Ausars offense skills, but Ausar started less than 40 games! No one is going to argue that he is going to be one of the best offensive players of all time, but I really don’t think his rookie scoring numbers indicate that he’ll be a negative offensive player throughout his career
