You gotta read this one book called Hannibals children its alternative history where hannibal besieged rome and won and the story takes place like thirty or so years afterwards with the remnants of Rome creating a new settlement in the middle of modern day france
I know this is months down the line from when you posted this video, but there’s theories that the Carthaginians knew of the Sargasso Sea. The region of the Sargasso Sea was apparently talked about in a poem, maybe a bit of historical writing, from a 4th Century Roman writer. Apparently the writer talked about a place in the Atlantic that was nearly free of wind and was calm. This report, according to the writer, came from an earlier Carthaginian account.
It's so nice to see an tru-blu Alt-History channel, especially one with such a fine and broad grasp of history and related politics. Keep up the hard work mate!
You know I kinda want to see a full scenario on what if Napoleon accepted the Frankfurt proposals and stayed peaceful, rebuilding France and living longer than in our timeline
3:18 I don't want to get to technical, especially since your a small alt history channel BUT as a learning experience Rome did not recover as easy as you may think Rome was devastated specifically at JUST the battle of Cannae losing 20% of Rome's entire male population and earlier at battles like Lake Trasimene losing significant amounts, Hannibal was a beast and realistically after Cannae should have just marched to Rome's walls besieged the city, and won. He fumbled the bag in the last minute do to Roman plot armour, anti war factions in Carthage (which you get into) and Hanno the idiot (why do they call him Hanno the great?). I don't know if you clarify later it is currently paused at 3:21 but I just wanted to inform you and spit out some interesting Punic war history.
When you said that Hannibal conducted a guerrilla campaign against Rome, I can't help but disagree. What I've read from numerous writers and scholars, was that the strategy the Romans employed after Cannae was the Fabian strategy - in other words, the Romans were the ones employing guerrilla tactics, while Hannibal was employing counter-guerrilla tactics.
i believe carthage would eventually either conquer egypt or force egypt into a protectorate/tributary status leading to carthage also wanting the levant or in their eyes the Phoenician homeland leading to conflict with whover controls the persian sphere whether it be the Seleukids or Parthians orr anyone else
Excellent video on a topic (Punic Wars) not normally discussed in-depth. Given that Carthage is a maritime empire, it is clear that it would have placed priority on islands and locations near important sea lanes such as Sicily, Sardinia, Corsica and the coastal areas of Spain (like the gates of Heracles). With such control, the Western Mediterranean would have become a Punic Pond. Sea trade would have substantially increased in volume and places such as Northern Europe and West Africa would have gradually become integrated into a Punic trade network reaching from the Nordic Sea to the Nile River. Contrary to others' views, I believe Carthage would have attempted to enter the Eastern Mediterranean through establishment of trading settlements (if they didn't already exist) and domination of markets like Egypt. The Carthaginian Empire would have not come to dominate most of Europe, North Africa and the Near East because it would not need to. It would have ruled the waves.
Thank you. You raise good points. If they triumph over the Romans it does make sense for them to pursue the eastern markets, as a maritime focused empire there would be many riches to pursue in the region.
I would love to see a video on the effect if Kievan Rus had remained united once the Mongols appeared on their borders, and either successfully fought them off, or did a Novograd trick of accepting vassalage and later becoming independent as the Golden horde gradually collapsed. NO MOSCOW - yeah. Slava Ukraini
by any chance would you be interesting in taking up the still empty alt hist of crassus conquering persia and him and his heir publius holding the east
Hey, where do you get your maps and what software do you use for coloring them? I'm trying to do an alternate history where native americans were resistant to old world diseases.
Sounds like a great video idea. I won't be able to explain it well here so I'll outline the basics. I use a website called Natural Earth Data for my background map, it's maps are all public domain so no copyright issues. I haven't adjusted them so it's literally the same aesthetic, but they have a few options. I then use a free program called QGIS to adjust the map projection (you can choose any projection to use), then export that. I do it as a huge image and zoom in for videos where needed. Then I use Adobe Illustrator to colour the maps, Photoshop could probably work too, or some free equivalent. It is a bit complicated to explain the rest, I would recommend looking into other videos and such for better help. It can be difficult to find maps on the same map projection as your base map, I recommend channels like Ollie Bye for more consistent maps. Neatling has made a video briefly outlining his process if you have not seen it, I would recommend checking that out.
great video, id argue Christianity would still grown but at a much slower rate, also if it does reach carthage it might replace the Punic religion at least for the lower classes, but do you think islam would still exist?
That would be interesting to see regarding Christianity. I feel Islam is too outside the scope of the timeline to be predictable. The political situation of the Middle-East wouldn't be the same without the Romans and such. I think the butterfly effect would eliminate it, but it's hard to say for certain.
Islam would still be exist, but some quranic verse would change like about the victory of rome against sassanid persian would be replaced maybe plotemaic/judea kingdom idk Muslim conquest still happened, levant and egypt still conquered, but failed to conquer region of iran sassanid was much powerful, instead focus on iran muslim would more focus conquering anatolia, greek state, and balkan, if this happened caliphate become eastern mediterranean power that rivalry against punic
Of course Australia doesn't exist. It is a fantasy meant to irritate all the northern hemispherites. Mind you, I pretend I am from that mythical land. hahaha
I think the two religions would exist, but a smaller population, islam would still conquer most of otl rashidun caliphate, except for persia since they would be stronger if there was no rome, or maybe the Egyptians and seleucids would fight a series of wars against persia
@LoanSharkTheFirst You're probably one of these people who think of religions as being started by individual people who were inspired by God to save men's souls. If that is you, don't read further. But I disagree. Religions happen because of global events, and not just individual people. For Islam, it was about 60 years of war from the reign of Justin II that were fought against Kosro I. These wars involved Arabs, Jews, and Christians that were seen as heretics by the Roman church. Without a Roman Empire, it's impossible to guess what a Jesus of Nazareth would have to talk about. The New Testament is built out of Roman propaganda.
@@SIGMAOHIORIZZ88 moving to today, I can say that secularism has fostered the growth of science. Health is probably the biggest issue today, but there's an economic component of that.

Another great video I love this section of history! you could do another video on if the phoenicians discovered the americas!
That's a good sequel idea, I'll consider doing it in the future
I think a video about what if Rome survived in Italy would be an interesting scenario and I don’t really see it often
Farya fargi would make a lot of Carthaginian music instead.
Great video! I recently discovered your channel and I’ve enjoyed the content. I hope to see more :D

Hey I made an EU4 mod that explores this question as well, just released like 2 weeks ago!

I'm planning to do a no Mongols timeline in the near future so I would be covering that area within that timeline
You mean this alternate timeline we will have a large Scotland😂
I think that the Germanic tribes would've ended up getting absorbed by the local Celtic populations they failed to invade.
That would be very interesting. A Celtic domination of Western Europe.
