- Broncos statement on Ezra Mam via broncos.com.au
Brisbane Broncos can confirm NRL player Ezra Mam has today been formally charged over an alleged incident that took place on Friday, October 18.
Broncos CEO, Dave Donaghy, said: “The Club was notified this afternoon that charges have now been laid.
“We will respect the legal process and will continue to work with the NRL Integrity Unit on next steps, as this matter moves forward.
“Ezra is currently seeking external support and we will give him the time and space to do so.
“As the matter is now before the courts, we are unable to make further comment on this matter.”

Joel I’m a big fan of you and Brian, but you really have to get over yourself on this issue.
You are assuming that Ezra is normal going through the anguish and guilt you are talking about.
However what’s normal about taking drugs which will inhibit your ability to drive, getting behind the wheel of a Ute. Then driving unlicensed and driving a vehicle unregistered and injuring other people.
Actions have consequences despite his age.
He should be sacked by the Broncos and deregistered by the NRL for 2 years. He is lucky he didn’t kill anyone…

The Nrl integrity unit needs to step up and actually have some integrity, and take a hard stand on any drug or illegal behaviour that the players are involved with. Stood down for a large number of games & pay a fine of a percentage of their contracted salary. And Ezra is not a kid, he is a 22 year old man. So Joel and other commentators need stop trying to make out that Ezra Mamis a kid making childish mistakes
Imagine that delightful 4 year old girl in your extended family after a head-on collision and a fractured hip. No skipping, no ballet ... How the NRL deal with this will be relevant documentation in civil action against Mam in court.

Ezra Mam is not a “kid”. He’s a young adult but an adult nevertheless. As an adult he’s old enough to vote, get a tattoo, play professional rugby league, gamble, buy alcohol, smoke, and have consented sex. If he has the ability to make all those types of decisions then he’s old enough to know that what he did in this situation was the wrong thing to do. He should be punished accordingly.
One of my best mates died aged 21 being hit by someone drug and drunk driving. There’s no excuses for it. Erza should be banned from the NRL for at least 12 months.

Problem is the longer this drags on the less likely the Broncos get Ben Hunt but everything is so up in the air with Ezra Mam, the thing that makes it hard for Brisbane is if they do the right thing and sack Ezra like alot of you are saying then what sort of punishment would Ezra have if he then signed on to be Nathan Cleary's halves partner at Penrith and gets to the grand final next year and wins it, he gets no repercussions at all from it.

Eza plays this game not just because he loves footie. He also plays for the big contract and the attention it brings to him. For example, if I'm a professional driver or my job relies on a driver's licence and/or a certain standard of behaviour, then I'm out of the job.
