Roses al is also the only one who looks pretty in my opinion 😂 I feel like they started with Rose‘s face and then kinda got bored and lazy when doing the rest.
I think the main problem with the animation is their expressions. Maybe if it was more lively, it would’ve looked good. From the image in my head, they look much better with actually well Animated expressions, because they’re moving and dancing but their faces, only their mouths move. Reminds me of aespa’s AI’s. Edit: to clarify, I never meant that aespa’s AI’s had bad facial expressions. It’s just that their AI’s feel quite off and I got the same feeling from Blackpink’s skins. Sorry if I confused you all!
Yeah, I think the difference between Aespa’s avatars and Blackpink’s here is the fact Aespa’s look more cartoonish so that has less of an “Uncanny Valley” effect, at least in my opinion. As for Blackpink, we know their faces really well and we’re familiar with how expressive they are in their normal music videos. So for me at least when I see the animated Blackpink always looking all 😐 it just throws me off so bad 😅
It’s great that they finally came back and the song is great! I’m just glad I wasn’t the only one who was feeling a little bit funny with the mv, idk maybe it’s just my personal preference but the animation put me off a little bit
@@alexcantsendanemail1352 I know but we’ve not had a song and music video from them for over a year and the first thing they come back with is an animated collab, I mean the song is really good tbf
fr! i feel the scenes where they singing they just stare into your souls not to mention the mouth movements are to small. If were being realistic here… if they were actually singing their voices wouldnt be as loud as the recorded audio. You need to form as more of a “O” then a “o” for the voice to resinate against ur surroundings. If not then most likely itd sound strained or flat since youd be singing with your chest instead of ur diaphragm. aside from that id give it a solid 7.9/10 if they used more pinks and blues for their faces so they wouldnt look dead inside, didnt manually animate their lips but instead used motion capture then id give a 10/10
K/DA is still unmatched when it comes to animated music videos but this is just wonderful considering that it's their first time creating something like this! Definitely looking forward to their future projects 🔥
I feel like they try to make it so it doesn't look like they're copying K/DA?? Unless that's just an excuse I made up but the animation at least could've been much better
From a person whoworks in mocap: For the fun of it, I put up a basic mocup (with metahuman) to try to recreate it and even with minimum effort and no cleanup it already looked way better. I think it's mostly the facial animations that make it look so weird, but all in all the entire video is hand animated, and when you compare it to the KDA "Pop Stars"where actual motion capture was used, it really shows. Sure there is some weird editing choices in there that I also don't agree with, but 90% of what makes it weird, is the animations :/ Knowing how accessible mocap tech is nowadays (especially in Korea and Asia in general, it's huge) I was really surprised with thequality of this video...
Like you can literally animate the face with your iPhone better than they animated it. They didn't even have to involve BP at all, they could have just hired dancers and actors or whatever and it would have looked way better and been cost effective. Animating by hand is expensive af because it takes a shitton of time. Renting a mocap space and suits is miles cheaper
Do you think they chose the lazy option bc it's bp ? Like they are famous enough and blinks begged yg to release this song as everyone loved it even 3/4 was already leaked so, song quality wise there's no way it will flop or what. So they don't need to invest more money in hiring dancers for motion captures and work on the details like facial expression and overall quality. Maybe adding sound effects or what so it won't feel weird from the crazy stuff that's happening compared to the audio etc. ? Or maybe they were short on budget ? I mean, this song isn't a cb and more like a gift to the fans. So they only have a little budget to make an animated mv from scratch. I wonder how much yge were involved in the production of the mv🤔
@@saltedfish2192 to be honest I don’t know if I would call it the lazy option because it takes less time to do a motion capture day and minimal cleanup later, the choreo seems mocapped but everything else looks so stiff that there is no way that they didn’t hand animate it. Also cost wise, they spent so much money on the environments that going with a mocap session would be an obvious way to go. Maybe it was bc of the studio making it, because it’s a games studio they might be used to making some animations but not a full length video and they just miscalculated and run out of time. This is the only option that seems reasonable to me. Btw if you want to compare to more amature mocap, I recommend watching animated dance covers of Giga „CH4NGE”. It’s insane what can be achieved by regular people. This is what makes the MV even worse in my opinion…
Hi! I'm a Multimedia arts grad and worked with animators before c: The unsettling feeling you feel when you look at the animated 3D model is called the "Uncanny Valley". It's kind of a gap that typically it comes out when something might look human visually but lack in the subtle things we humans use to identify or read emotions. Example, our eyes actually move a lot even when it's "still" but with these 3D models, they probably didn't have time or budget to get into that level of detail. The limitations of how much detail they can put into rigging the 3d faces also affect things. They may be moving their mouth but that movement doesn't extend to the cheeks or other muscles around it leaving us to feel like it's made of "plastic". Overall, like you said, visually beautiful. As if they expect people to take screenshots rather than play the MV again and again. PUBG also likely had a time and budget constraint that forced them to be selective and focus on what parts to really put effort on.
I actually liked the song. It was leaked for almost 2 years and I listened the leaked version a lot. So I didn't had any hope . But when they released it , it slapped! I am still addicted to jisoo's bridge. However I think the animation could have been better. I know there are people who will say what do you expect from a game characters. But then again it's from "BLACKPINK" (who are famous for their mv making)so they should have invest more on the animation.
Well, especially because these are game characters, I was surprised with the low quality. Game producers are experts in creating stunning almost life lie characters to their games...
Had no expectations of video since PUBG was the one who were animating the whole mv but was pleasantly surprised. Except some scenes where the models were lip syncing it looks pretty good ngl
I think Rosè visually looks the best. Their faces are strange. And it’s really odd that I can’t get what’s wrong. It just looks not good. Except Rosé🤷🏻♀️
Rosé's animation looks the most lively out of all 4 members. You can instantly recognize her without making any effort whereas others looked very weird. The first time I looked at Jennie and I was like who tf is that b!tch. All the cinematic shots were really good tho.
@@stelrex7293 I can recognize all of them. But Rosé looks like Rosé the most. They look kinda realistic but don’t remind me of the real girls. Those who don’t know black pink well and don’t know their voices well may not recognize them. At least, Jisoo and Jennie🤷🏻♀️ so yeah, but still the song and visuals are on point
Yeah because of rosé's blonde hair resemblance and her character has more details comparatively but for me non of them look like them. They look 1000 better irl
@@prashannapun1675 rosé’s eyes look lively. I was in shock when I saw the way they are But to be honest, you’re right. And I don’t wanna sound rude but Lisa’s eyes look like SpongeBob’s Gary’s eyes🫢
I think that's why K/DA was so successful was because the models were allowed to emote and show a range of emotion. Also we're used to animation to be slightly overexaggerated in the face to better show the emotion (which is why a lot of animated movies have big eyes). I think the facial animation was either too realistic for 3d models to show enough emotion or maybe they ran out of time to go all in. Also another thing is that other than the faces, they don't have any facial quirks of the girls like they do for you to go (yeah that's Jisoo, look at Lisa's smirk) When someone voice acts a character in a movie, the animators put small quirks of what the voice actor does while recording. This is why mocap is so popular in music videos and video games. It record not only facial movements but also body to have the character feel more human. I feel like the music video is like a glorified blender, sfm, or miku miku dance animation because of how stiff the faces were.
@@fireruby1882 I think a more detailed, slightly more proportion version of the blackpink models from the ice cream dance video might could have worked just as good. I think they only didn't do it was because they wanted the models to look like the PUBG game characters just like how K/DA models is a more detailed version of the in game skins
@@joshuacanada9412 if you're referring to the "More" mv, then yes exactly. I think some of the dance movements were way too exaggerated and that's why it looked weird. I wonder if the fact that it happened in 2020 and there were other K/DA music videos released at the same time and that league of legends have a showcase before with K/DA performing (which was a disaster because the models look so bad because 2020 work conditions). The "Popstars" mv was better with the dances but I wonder if it was because of the slightly different style and the way the camera was used. And obviously they didn't have restricted work conditions while making the mv.
I totally agree with you Jordan! Like the first time when I watched the m/v right after i finish watching I felt *Soo Many* things were kinda off in the m/v, and i guess it's b'cuz the animators didn't put enough facial movement (close to non imo) on their singing scenes/close ups, Jisoo's Model looks SOO BAD Jennie's Model's Face was WAY too round Lisa's Model had Strabismus eyes as y'all can see here 6:01, Rosé's Model was THE Best prolly, The animations were kinda jarring Q.C issues as you said, BUT... atleast we all got something from the queens after almost 2 years! And a Fun Fact: The M/V was made from BlackPinks previous M/V scenes such as Whistle, How You Like That, D4, KTL, Lovesick Girls, Lalisa and On The Ground
Actually, even if people wanted to share their opinion, they were just scared that people will criticize them. I also left my opinion and ''fans'' started to call me a blonk like wtf dude? BLACKPINK is the reason I came into Kpop.
@@annasayaz3141 idk I may offend so many fans with this statement but kpop fans (not all, obv not all) are really sensitive, they can't even bare constructive criticism, so many kpop fans don't know the insides and technicalities behind one good music video. I didn't commented my opinion about the m/v b'cuz I knew so many people won't understand the stuff and will get offended and it would've started a useless argument between fans under the comment section, I was waiting for an expert to do the m/v analysis especially Jordan so I can share my opinion with those who would understand what I and alot of other fans meant to say, and i also got into kpop b'cuz of blackpink in 2016 since the queens debuted
@@yametekudasai2879 it could've been better let's be honest, this collab was planned from 2019 so they could've done a little better? after all this is one of the biggest collab if not the biggest collab in gaming history fame wise and also budget wise, anyways at the end we got a *BEAUTIFUL* song from the queens that's all what matters
omg yes i agree with the character thingy!! you're absolutely right! Jisoo's model was TOO BAD and cheap, Jennie's looked like ningning (i luv ning no hate) which can cause people to accuse them of copying, and Lisa looked kinda squint to me. Rosie was the only ok one
Something to keep in mind is that this MV was rendered in conjunction with the in-game 'virtual concert' that was deployed via PUBG Mobile. Players were able to interact in-game with the stage at the end of the MV. This mean that there were limitations set by the developer (Tencent) in order for user experience across a wide variety of hardware (phones models). It probably would have been better if they had prerendered the MV with PC assets that didn't have to match the graphics of the mobile game, but Tencent probably bankrolled a large portion of this MV and wanted it to be as close to the mobile game graphics and character models as possible.
I think that Rose's model is the best looking out of the four. Lisa's is good too, but not as good as Rose (which I hate to say because Lisa is my bias). But they did Jennie and Jisoo so dirty with the modeling. I agree with Jordan in that the stills look good, but some of the movement just seems uncanny valley. Am I the only one that thinks the choreography sequences on the stage are the most uncanny valley bits? Like, the energy is there in the body work, but it seems too loose and flowy? The facial expressions just feel...flat...and don't match the body in terms of energy in the choreography?
The choreo bothered me too. When I think of k-pop choreos, I think of sharp movements and good coordination. Maybe it's what someone else said of it being lower quality since it was part of the actual in-game concert? But isn't there a way (where it's not hella expensive) where they can change the quality for the MV so it's not so...slippery? I can't think of another word for it.
The song is fun! I had already heard the leaked version and was immediately hooked. This version i love as well. They changed some parts and it still worked. 'RFL' is like a fun summer track.
I think the term they use that you were referring to @ 1:49 is called the "uncanny valley". they talk about it a lot at the Corridor Crew channel when they react to cgi and vfx scenes in movies and tv shows
Yeah I definitely got a bit of uncanny valley watching this video, ngl I would’ve preferred them maybe trying a cool 2d style? Although it might’ve not been possible because those take awhile to complete
If I'll rank their AI its this: ROSÉ - her AI and vocals totally slayed this collab heavens 😌 Jennie- her face shape is off, let's just focus on her vocals 🙉💕 (rapper jennie cb when lol) Lisa- her AI has her swag but her eyes and nose ☠her rap is killer tho 🤟 Jisoo- her face is off but her bridge part killed it ---she totally sweep me off---🤧💕 Srsly, they gave no justice to Jisoo's face 😭 can't blame them tho her beauty is very hard to emulate. Overall, its 95/100 💗 Thankful for the special track!
95/100 is a bit too generous. I would give them a 80/100 for Rosé's AI and the cinematic shots but the song itself was 100/100. No complaints there. Waiting for the real comeback tho. 😊
This is exactly what I thought. The song is incredibly amazing i mean i got goosebumbs. But the MV dissapointed me a little bit. First: I hoped so much to see this beautiful Blackpinkvisuals again. Second: It felt a bit awkward watching the MV because the animated members seemed like lifeless to me and even without being a professional editor (i have no clue of editing) I could notice that was a bit "lazy" edited at some points. Really no hate I love Blackpink and I love this song (I wated so long for this) 🖤💖
the mv was ok but the song IS AMAZING it was amazing jisoo chae/rosé jennie lisa voice is amazing and lisa rap was so good and y does it remain me of frozen 2
I'm glad someone is saying it 😂 I'm a Blink but I felt REALLY disappointed in this, it felt almost fan made. I'm just hoping YG steps up and gives the girls what they deserve for their comeback 🤞 Edit: I understand it's not YG's work, but they're still "in charge" for the girls, they still have to sign off and agree on projects. It seems like a "quality control" issue from their side
If PUBG perfectly edited the effects in that mv, the gamers playing their game will expect that they're gonna change some effects in their game. Which is PUBG always end up not changing their game effects
I was flip-flopping between gushing over the transitions, general animations, and music, and then facepalming at the avatar animations and choreography gave me whiplash.
to be honest in the 3d animation, it is really damn hard to mimick a real human's expression even with the base of reference. just like you've said, "something's is off" where the fact models that needs to be rigged on their facial expressions are literally the hardest part (as a student who also learning how to animate in 3d) maybe a little bit of time and QCT will do in order to double checked and see the other little mistakes that could be improve sometimes. so far, what I can say about the mv overall is that the creators behind this project must be applaud for the amount of time they've put in MOST ESPECIALLY TO THE ENVIRONMENT. Cuz damn lord, that was UNDENIABLY HECKIN GREAT. TEXTURES, ILLUMINATION AND RENDERING really takes consumes a lot of time in getting the finish project with a single or multi-frame combined.
I forking learned the song by heart within 5 days. I had been listening to the demo version for 2 long a$$ years, didn't expect anything new, but when I heard Chaesoo's bridge, it felt like drinking crystal clean water after living in a deserted island for months. Not even going to talk about Lisa's rap, she killed the rap, her rap killed me and I am not complaining. So, I didn't pay much attention to the MV. I closed my eyes while streaming 😂😂😂, because Lisatar doesn't look like Lisa at all, Rosétar was the closest one to the reality so they gave "her" more screentime than Rosé actually gets
Yeah I will admit the animation is a bit iffy, as someone who loves watching animated stuff and yeah humans are one of the hardest things to animate, mostly due to how much we can express. Doing stuff in a realistic style is pretty difficult, and I think they used Mocap or a weird kinda modeling and that’s why it’s so weird? Kinda scooting into uncanny valley territory imo, they made it too realistic and almost a little too stilted, but again that’s just my opinion on this EDIT: I’d also like to say I’m an artist/Very amateur animator and currently study graphic design and rendering, I may not know everything, but I have a decent enough idea of what I’m talking about lol
Maybe i'm not good enough in video editing (i'm onlly a enjoyer, almost never did any video editing, and at a very beginner level) But the last part, (after the crown turned into the bullet) really reminded me of the last set for K/DA "more" and i feel like riot did a better job at animating the girls and the dancing in this part. As jordan said, most of the visual and the IDEA behind the shots are a banger in this MV, but the anitmation looks sooo weird (i won't say bad because it's better than i could EVER dream of doing) that it makes it looks strange in this end.
@@TheMishini i mean... don't tell me that neither blackpink (whole team, not just the girls) nor PUBG can afford a animation team to make such a big annoucement
@@toastpavedtheway i'm not saying it's looking bad, i love the visual and background, i'm jsut saying that KNOWING it's blackpink and pubg, the girls could have looked better. But the movie still looks great
I love the song and it is great and I literally was screaming of joy that they came back I just wished that the animation could be better because like he said when they were singing it wasn’t the best and it just could be better in some spots. But other than that they are amazing and I am so happy that they came back
The song was fcking amazing!!!. The foregrounds, objects and backgrounds are amazing but the face movements of the three or just the faces of Jisoo, Jennie and Lisa in general is kind of erm.. it isn't good, but also isn't that bad. The animator probably has a crush on Rosie tho, lmao.
I agree the mv is not great, the dolls were a bit strange sometimes, but it was made by pubg so I don't think they invested that much, I don't know. But the song slayed so I am happy with it🤗
That makes sense, but also, they could do stylised designs that also felt more personalised. They are barely recognisable, have the same body shape, move identically... If this was a trailer for the game (which, lbr, it is) I would not be blown away by the animation on characters... And if it's supposed to be an official Blackpink MV, then it's just thoroughly disappointing since it has so little to do with Blackpink.
I am excited for the upcoming M/Vs as YG Ent. have said their comeback Music Videos is going to be the most expensive one. So hooefully, it's going to be good
Its a collaboration to Pubg that is why some of it is not really connected to song because pubg show casing the settings of pubg or things about pubg. Ofc u cannot put romeo there just to supoort the music and lyrics 😂😅 lol kidding
It's not like YG is earing cash for this and I haven't seen animations that looked "real" without spending millions and millions. For what this is, I think it looks good but everyone can agree their faces didn't match their real life counterparts although Jennie was the closest
i like it how are being totally honest and pointing the exact the thing which could have been better you know how to point mistake and how to solve them this shows that are a great editor. keep it up man👍💕
I knew Jordan won't let me down!!! You're the first UA-camr I found actually talking about what could've done better, the animation! The song itself is okay and certified BOP, tho the M/V is just not there yet...
The song itself makes the video looks like amazing. The song is so good that it can make the video better despite having like a not good animated copy of BLACKPINK girls. Still, the song is amazing, however the video is *"not bad but not good" - Jisoo*
keep in mind. this MV is a promotion video for a videogame made by a videogame company. dont expect hollywood pixar level CGI(even tho beside the actual human models it looks fantastic). look at it more like in a final fantasy cutscene. so it kinda suppose to look like a videogame. still a shitton better than 90% of the cgi used in other kpop MVs. and stuff like framedrops will never be recognized by the common viewer.
Thats the point, this is made by a videogame animators that specialise in animation atleast they could do better job in making the girls more realistic. Mind you there are good M/Vs done by game animators for Kpop songs like K/DA. The songs stills slaps tho. No hate to girls but slight criticism to the animators.
What you're sensing is called the uncanny valley, where something looks like a human but something just isn't quite right. It's actually easier to go for a semi realistic style like the aespa ae, because they're just distorted enough to not trigger the uncanny valley sense while being recognizable as human. (this is purely my view of the animation, I'm not trying to start a fan war, I swear) Also, Kep1er just had a Japanese debut called Wing Wing and they do a lot of dolly zooms and blending distorted shots together well. I'd love for you to react to it, but I just wanted to tell you this because now I notice these things and it's entirely because of you.
4:33 agreed 7:43 i genuinely find this close-up top notch amongst all the others I love how constructive he is about the flaws in this pretty amazing animation M/V. His criticism goes around the weird little parts that make you go "hold on a second" without disrespecting the animators cause let's be honest animation is a whole other struggle! Keep at it King!!
The amount of work, time, money and people on these animated MV are insane. The cuts and timing might be a bit off but I wanted to leave a comment appreciating how well this video was made. They wanted a realistic approach and I think they succeded. Especially since they have to actually ANIMATE these realistic models. No matter how realistic you model and animate someone, the human eye will always feel something off. Saying how some member's models were 'SO BAAAAD' disappoint me because you don't know the hard work behind it. Overall the CGI was splendid, even though not my cup of tea I admit.
Listen, animation is hard work for sure, and it's an often unappreciated artform. No doubt people worked hard on this. But here's the truth, you can work hard with all the best intentions, and still produce something which is just not good. Im not saying all of the animation was bad, far from it. I'm not saying the creators aren't talented. Idk what's the reason, direction, time limits, money limits, just choices and priorities, but the truth is, animation on the members themselves is just not good. It's not just models that are off, it's movement as well. I strongly disagree they wanted a realistic approach - if they did, that would've been a massive fail - they chose to be stylised, and I mean, fair enough, that in itself is not a problem. Only, the decisions they made just lead to complete stiffness in the faces and generic-ness with body shape and movement. If this was the way characters moved in a game, that'd be one thing, since that has to be programmed into gameplay; this is a video, so a finite art piece which they could've made whatever they wanted. The animation on members looks like a pretty but shallow afterthought. I appreciate your point, but i disagree with your opinion. Which, of course, is just my opinion in turn 😆
@@Cationna I understand what you're saying, and actually I never said the animation was perfect if you read my comment. I even agree that they look stiff and very CGI. But I wanted to acknowledge the craft since many people in the comment completely overlooked it. I wanted people to understand the context and limitations of it before just bashing it. I was mostly referring to the people saying how ugly this is, not the comments having a constructive opinion. One point I will have to disagree with you on is how they chose the realistic approach. I still stand by that opinion, as for me, it is clearly not stylised. The CGI may give that feel but it's not. Probably why they had less flexibility in the animation. Once again, PUBG is a game company, and the whole video game vibe matches what they intended imo. They probably used a lot of the gameplay assets (including the characters) for this video, but that are speculations. My point was generally trying to appreciate the work behind the video. I wasn't saying the cristisms were wrong. ^^
@@TheMishini well then sorry as it seems I misunderstood you somewhat, and yes, I actually agree with your point of animation being underappreciated! And I've also thought a lot about this realistic approach and I concede that you're actually right about that. The likenesses they tried to achieve with the faces are much more realistic than the style of the rest of the video, even the bodies of the models, yet alone the usual style of the game (from my very, very brief look into it since I've made my comment). So yes, the problem might be that the approach was out of place for the environment, yet not fully realistic as you'd expect from more humans-focused style. And since they wouldn't usually, they also didn't really handle animating those more realistic faces believably. In the end they're not stylised enough and not realistic enough. That actually explains the uncanny valley feeling. So I came to agree with you on that point too!
I love that you criticized the video editing. In most of your reactions that I've seen so far you were mostly positive, so I almost already started believing that video editing was super easy. This brings me back to reality. Thank you !
I kind of think the animation (with how they did the faces) was fine. It just enforces the fact that they are in a game cause it just looks like game characters. Maybe if they work on the expressions, that would make it better.
The song when listened to without looking at the mv seems 100× better... the animation while lip syncing, their animated dance, & some hyped up scenes, as u said, which don't go well with the vibe of the song just worsened the impact of the song...😔🥲 there should have been some bright & colourful MV for this song 🖤💕🖤💕✌
idk why people are complaining about this mv… this is literally a special song for a video game??? ofc it’s not going to look good HELP they’re supposed to look like pubg characters😭😭 and plus i don’t think yg is going to put money into a song that was made for a documentary and then got leaked it’s just to make the fans happy lmaooo and ofc to get the money for the collaboration
The reason why it seemed so creepy is probably because of the uncanny Valley affect where the closer the person is closer to real life it starts to get creepy which is probably what's happening with the ai members
I think they did not do face mocap on the girls when singing this song. Their facial expressions when performing is one of the key aspects that we adore them so much.
i think they did this because , they want to show this in game....so in a mobile game, we don't have that much resource for rendering realistic face, the faces of the members looks so low poly is the reason. they could have improved the rig for the facial animation, especially the eye area.
I'm happy we think the same! When I first saw the MV i thought "hmm this is like uncanny valley" because their faces are so weird, I would prefer so much if the models were more game-like, and yeah the MV has some beautiful shots, but some of them are kinda boring... and I felt bad since I didn't see anyone else comment that, I swear I'm not a hater, I'm an animator that loves Blackpink very much
I feel like if they animated their eyes more it would make a *HUGE* difference. If you look closely you'll notice that their irises have little to no movement at all, almost motionless which could be a reason why it feels like it's lifeless ( since we move our iris *ALOT* ). another thing is that I feel like the mouth movement when they are singing is kinda rigid. it's not smooth like it is IRL which makes it not look the best. some parts are also not on beat with the lines which makes it look "off" or like they are lip syncing lol. These are just my opinion but other than the parts where they sing I really like the MV (Im no professional editor btw lol)
I am a formally educated animator, but still overall a novice. 3D is my favorite format for animation, but please take this all with a grain of salt. Face animation: To me it looks like they had a very strong focus on the girls being really ethereal and perfect throughout the MV. It is likely that they were directed to do little micro expressions that a lot of kpop and korean dramas have not really being represented, but it doesnt look like they were even mocaped at all and it was all hand done. Animation is also usually expressive and exagerated, so little movements don't always translate to viewer, making the viewer not connect as well to the scene and making the character lose charisma. It might have been that the model didn't have enough bones in the face in particular, which sucks since the models are beautiful and there are a ton of ultra-close-up shots. I haven't seen any behind or 'making of' videos on this so it's hard to say for sure what went on in production, but someone made decisions that ended up ... boring. Dancing: Dancing is reaaaaallly hard to make not look so 'uncanny valley' without mocap. That being said- some of the movements should have been hit harder. Speeding up and holding frames (same as you would do in editing) really adds to the impact and changes them from plastic dolls into dancers. The lack of that makes the dancers look 'lazy' as mentioned. This is nit-picky, but at a lot of points they also kind of ignore some basic human anatomy such as bones. The comment about the jump @ 8:42 is interesting. Animation almost always emphasizes anticipation and subsequently secondary action, two of the core principles of animation. However, Because this is an MV and you are usually seeing many scenes quickly, the editing is tricking your brain into believing the world. Since you are (usually) representing characters in a more straightforward way, but the comment makes a lot of sense and kinda makes the transition slower? muddier? Not only that but they are trying to emulate an MV style for both cinamatography and editing... In cinematic animation - important and essential to make convincing. In an MV- 4th wall breaking, and not in the good way. The animation style reminds me of IU's animation in 'Eight' with less character. It's very pretty, but really only as a still. like it's not really made for motion. THE DETAIL on everything!!! No wonder they were losing frames this looks like it took months to render lol. Also The VFX and Post-prod work on this is insane. The reflections, the particle effects, the little lighting effects, the lighting in the scene, ice breaking, and all those little cuts of glass flowers opening -- bro.. it's so much. I wouldn't be surprised if this is where their animation budget went. Or worse, if they just didn't budget well for character animators at all This is all my perspective, but if you read to here, I enjoy discussion :)
I feel this could've been way better if they mixed both irl/visual fx like Dreamcatcher's Rose Blue and Deja Vu. Either that of CGI from the girl's themselves.
no matter what everyone says, the team who made this are very experienced & professional on their league. the quality they put on this is insane. PUBG knows how big blackpink and how strict YG. they did a good job infact im so obsessed with this MV lol
Exactly these people only react for views didn't know the shit about blinks bp yg or anyone ..as they should know the basic of them also if they are suepr editor why don't he edit ..also song was leak for 2 years why yg put so much amount in this leak song..we got song with stunning mv we are happy this perosn is only enjoying cuz he isn't blink he didn't know what we feel when we even Liston to 1 sec bp leaks .
I totally agree with this video! I love the song and the background visuals are stunning but the members were off. Rosé was by far the best if we talk about recognition, then Lisa (her iconic hairstyle helps), Jisoo I had look twice and honestly, even now I can't see Jennie, she doesn't have her typical trademarks like her cat eyes. I don't know if 'cute' is easier to get animated than 'mature' faces but aside from Rosé and her big eyes, none if them had emotions in their faces. It feels like all the bugdet went into making those flowers extremly stunning^^
Feels like they took so much time trying to capture the likeness of Rosé so they had less time to work on Jennie and Lisa and the modelling of Jisoo was done very last minute... The Jisoo looks nothing like her 😭
Was wondering about that insane section. Like there is a way to do a shot where you can make it ironically calm, like the one shot in one of the Spider Man movies where they're playing classical music or something..but for that kind of shot, yeah, they could've matched it insanity. And was wondering why a lot of the time I was preferring the real members to the CGI ones, but yes, thankful you pointed out why.
Finally, I found some people who are on the same page as I am... I feel like most of us or most of the people I know kept their REAL insights about the MV since this was a big thing for us blinks, almost 620+ days of hiatus, I hope they will renew their contracts but it feels like this is the 2nd to the last comeback since they have a tour and of course, they need some break :(( kinda feel sad about it overall, but atleast I am happy for what they become🤗
Animation is hard, man. Probably much harder than the editing in this music video. Yeah, they don't look perfect, but it's ANIMATION!! Of course they look plastic, they aren't real- I have so many words but I don't know how to say them. I feel like you didn't appreciate how much effort animation takes. As always, your commentary WAS great, though.
people are jumping on the craft because the girls 'look weird' with 'bad animation', not realising how hard it is to marry realism and good animation. + it was made by a game company to start with, this has a very video game feel to it.
Just look at the anime industry honestly. Time crunches, animators being overworked and still being underpaid. Animation is not easy. Some of the best animated scenes take literal months to make at times. Besides, this was a PUBG Collab, no? The BLACKPINK models literally look like it's from a PUBG game lol. And from what a few others have said about actual models and expressions on said models in PUBG, they're not the best. But hey, like I said, literally looks like a PUBG game so I dunno, maybe it was intentional lol 🤷♀️😂
I’m gonna be honest, the song is so good I cannot stop listening. The mv was also very impressive but their visuals? Just no. Jisoo, the visual queen looks absolutely horrible in that animation (I’m sorry). Rosè’s face looks pretty tho. If they could’ve done more better in making the faces, “Ready For Love” is a total masterpiece.
Yeah the animation of their faces and dancing couldve been better. Rosé was actually not bad, her face was the most expressive I think
This is just project for PUBG Mobile. And for Mobile device, it actually kinda better.
Roses al is also the only one who looks pretty in my opinion 😂 I feel like they started with Rose‘s face and then kinda got bored and lazy when doing the rest.
Yup, Jisoo looks nothing how she looks irl. Like, Pubg and Yg to better
@@ZA-fd1fc Rosé is 80% look alike of the real life ver
Jennie and Lisa: 60% look alike of real life ver
Jisoo: 1% look alike irl ver
maybe 4 editor and just 1 editor in good mood and spend most of the time on her face 😆
*their faces* not they’re
Aespa's AI actually does have expressions tho
Yeah, I think the difference between Aespa’s avatars and Blackpink’s here is the fact Aespa’s look more cartoonish so that has less of an “Uncanny Valley” effect, at least in my opinion. As for Blackpink, we know their faces really well and we’re familiar with how expressive they are in their normal music videos. So for me at least when I see the animated Blackpink always looking all 😐 it just throws me off so bad 😅

i feel the scenes where they singing they just stare into your souls
not to mention the mouth movements are to small. If were being realistic here… if they were actually singing their voices wouldnt be as loud as the recorded audio. You need to form as more of a “O” then a “o” for the voice to resinate against ur surroundings. If not then most likely itd sound strained or flat since youd be singing with your chest instead of ur diaphragm.
aside from that id give it a solid 7.9/10
if they used more pinks and blues for their faces so they wouldnt look dead inside, didnt manually animate their lips but instead used motion capture then id give a 10/10
@@KPStars the song its so good but its not a music video for me at least because we didnt see their faces fkdkdk.
K/DA is still unmatched when it comes to animated music videos but this is just wonderful considering that it's their first time creating something like this! Definitely looking forward to their future projects 🔥
this is PUBG's first time?
I feel like they try to make it so it doesn't look like they're copying K/DA?? Unless that's just an excuse I made up but the animation at least could've been much better
I think it would be way nicer they contacted Axis studios for animate the characters (Same studio that animates k/da for Riot games)

It's pubg it's not the singers design
@@happeeboy9581 yeah and the pubg animators don’t have to animate faces so I guess this is another reason
Wow! Thanks for explaining this in detail. Now I understand why it feels so weird whenever I watch the MV. 🥺
Ps. Sorry for my bad English :")
@@miharumatsuo2360 Samee, also your English was literally perfect so dw :D
I actually liked the song. It was leaked for almost 2 years and I listened the leaked version a lot. So I didn't had any hope . But when they released it , it slapped! I am still addicted to jisoo's bridge. However I think the animation could have been better. I know there are people who will say what do you expect from a game characters. But then again it's from "BLACKPINK" (who are famous for their mv making)so they should have invest more on the animation.
It's probably fully on pubg to animate. That's why it's game character type animation not BP M/V level animation
It's a collaboration with PUBG Mobile, BLACKPINK & YG just provided the song, the MV making was all on PUBG Mobile.

I was in shock when I saw the way they are
But to be honest, you’re right. And I don’t wanna sound rude but Lisa’s eyes look like SpongeBob’s Gary’s eyes🫢
Yeah, they did Jisoo the dirtiest tho😭
Yes 100% K/DA did it flawlessly and you saying the eyes should’ve been just a little bigger is accurate
@@fireruby1882 I think a more detailed, slightly more proportion version of the blackpink models from the ice cream dance video might could have worked just as good. I think they only didn't do it was because they wanted the models to look like the PUBG game characters just like how K/DA models is a more detailed version of the in game skins
K/DA still should improve when it comes to the dance movements. They dance weird and kinda funny at times. I think PUBG did better in that category.

And a Fun Fact: The M/V was made from BlackPinks previous M/V scenes such as
Whistle, How You Like That, D4, KTL, Lovesick Girls, Lalisa and On The Ground
their looks kinda okay tho it's just lack of movement and facial expression
Actually, even if people wanted to share their opinion, they were just scared that people will criticize them. I also left my opinion and ''fans'' started to call me a blonk like wtf dude? BLACKPINK is the reason I came into Kpop.

It probably would have been better if they had prerendered the MV with PC assets that didn't have to match the graphics of the mobile game, but Tencent probably bankrolled a large portion of this MV and wanted it to be as close to the mobile game graphics and character models as possible.
i think the song mv was prepared last minute
at least we get new music that weve been waiting for 2 years, glad that blackpink is finally back on track😍🖤💗
EXACTLY!! And can we talk about how the body proportions in Jisoo's model were just.....off? It felt so wrong
For me personally only Rose's model looked any good, Lisa's model was too basic fake... Kinda gave me Sims 3 vibes
The song is fun! I had already heard the leaked version and was immediately hooked. This version i love as well. They changed some parts and it still worked. 'RFL' is like a fun summer track.
El MV no estuvo a cargo de YG, pero prepárense porque con su Comeback nos van a dejar por el suelo
If I'll rank their AI its this:
ROSÉ - her AI and vocals totally slayed this collab heavens 😌
Jennie- her face shape is off, let's just focus on her vocals 🙉💕 (rapper jennie cb when lol)
Lisa- her AI has her swag but her eyes and nose ☠her rap is killer tho 🤟
Jisoo- her face is off but her bridge part killed it ---she totally sweep me off---🤧💕
Srsly, they gave no justice to Jisoo's face 😭 can't blame them tho her beauty is very hard to emulate.
Overall, its 95/100 💗
Thankful for the special track!
for real
95/100 is a bit too generous. I would give them a 80/100 for Rosé's AI and the cinematic shots but the song itself was 100/100. No complaints there. Waiting for the real comeback tho. 😊
idk why, but i expected the animation to be kda quality, anyway the song is bomb 🔥🔥🔥, the mv is pretty good ngl, the visuals are amazing

Edit: I understand it's not YG's work, but they're still "in charge" for the girls, they still have to sign off and agree on projects. It seems like a "quality control" issue from their side
pubg took responsibility with this mv. and i heard yg invested a lot with bp next comeback mv.
Its a pubg collab so its not yg's work
If PUBG perfectly edited the effects in that mv, the gamers playing their game will expect that they're gonna change some effects in their game. Which is PUBG always end up not changing their game effects
Yeah but u can't expect perfect from pubg but they still did really good honestly
Well what do you expect it's PUBG lol
Kinda scooting into uncanny valley territory imo, they made it too realistic and almost a little too stilted, but again that’s just my opinion on this
EDIT: I’d also like to say I’m an artist/Very amateur animator and currently study graphic design and rendering, I may not know everything, but I have a decent enough idea of what I’m talking about lol
The music and color theme was too good that i didn't noticed this mistakes💀
Every game companies try to make their own kda but they always fail 🤣

Maybe i'm not good enough in video editing (i'm onlly a enjoyer, almost never did any video editing, and at a very beginner level) But the last part, (after the crown turned into the bullet) really reminded me of the last set for K/DA "more" and i feel like riot did a better job at animating the girls and the dancing in this part. As jordan said, most of the visual and the IDEA behind the shots are a banger in this MV, but the anitmation looks sooo weird (i won't say bad because it's better than i could EVER dream of doing) that it makes it looks strange in this end.
i believe riot hired an actual animation studio for KDA MVs whereas PUBG is a video game company

We can't forget that it's a video for a GAME!!!!! For me, the video is amazing .
They really look like characters in a game
La animación está hecha así a propósito, para que parezcan personajes del juego, si las hubieran hecho más realistas no parecería pubg

The song itself makes the video looks like amazing. The song is so good that it can make the video better despite having like a not good animated copy of BLACKPINK girls. Still, the song is amazing, however the video is *"not bad but not good" - Jisoo*
How can you even spot a frame drop, Jordan? I replayed it so many times and I can't spot the frame drop that you recognized! you're amazing!
keep in mind. this MV is a promotion video for a videogame made by a videogame company. dont expect hollywood pixar level CGI(even tho beside the actual human models it looks fantastic).
look at it more like in a final fantasy cutscene. so it kinda suppose to look like a videogame. still a shitton better than 90% of the cgi used in other kpop MVs. and stuff like framedrops will never be recognized by the common viewer.
Thats the point, this is made by a videogame animators that specialise in animation atleast they could do better job in making the girls more realistic. Mind you there are good M/Vs done by game animators for Kpop songs like K/DA. The songs stills slaps tho. No hate to girls but slight criticism to the animators.
@@chrisvillaruel1016 but kda animations isn't even that good tho.. the difference between blackpink's ai and kda is just the facial expressions.
did you notice that some scenes were actually so similar with k/da music videos
I loved the video animations and respect the amount of work they've done creating it. Kudos to pubg editors. 🙌
omo I was waiting for your reaction jordan!!!!
I'm glad to know that I'm not the only one who thought that the animation was kinda bad....
The person that made rosè's AI had a HUGE crush on her fr.
I was shocked on how many people hated it
Maybe bcz it's bad
@@douaa2091 u trying so hard to be toxic lmao
@@douaa2091 maybe it's because you have no taste in music
fr the song was actually good imo
@@l0vesunsun they’re not talking about the song, the song has been out since their last album, it’s the MV lol
"The video felt weird" That's what i thought
They actually kept it more pubg like only.
I appreciate videos where you are more critical! Hope to see more like this!
What you're sensing is called the uncanny valley, where something looks like a human but something just isn't quite right. It's actually easier to go for a semi realistic style like the aespa ae, because they're just distorted enough to not trigger the uncanny valley sense while being recognizable as human. (this is purely my view of the animation, I'm not trying to start a fan war, I swear)
Also, Kep1er just had a Japanese debut called Wing Wing and they do a lot of dolly zooms and blending distorted shots together well. I'd love for you to react to it, but I just wanted to tell you this because now I notice these things and it's entirely because of you.
4:35 Thank God someone notices this magestic shot. I have been watching reaction videos about this scene, none, never ever notices it.
4:33 agreed
7:43 i genuinely find this close-up top notch amongst all the others
I love how constructive he is about the flaws in this pretty amazing animation M/V. His criticism goes around the weird little parts that make you go "hold on a second" without disrespecting the animators cause let's be honest animation is a whole other struggle! Keep at it King!!
☝️💯
The real real BLACKPINK Comeback is in August (pre release single) Ready For Love was just a special Collab track
The model does not look like BLACKPINK 😂😂
I agree, and I'm so excited!! Their PINK VENOM M/V RELEASING TOMORROW AND ITS SO INTERESTING
There’s nothing wrong with criticism when it’s necessary and especially as an editor. I completely agree with Jordan
@@jairae8306 but then again, i never said I disagreed with Jordan!
Your reaction to Lisa jumping in the flower field is so funny 😂
The song when listened to without looking at the mv seems 100× better... the animation while lip syncing, their animated dance, & some hyped up scenes, as u said, which don't go well with the vibe of the song just worsened the impact of the song...😔🥲 there should have been some bright & colourful MV for this song 🖤💕🖤💕✌
The la la choreo part actually throws back to Lovesick Girls! "we were born to be alone part"
idk why people are complaining about this mv… this is literally a special song for a video game??? ofc it’s not going to look good HELP they’re supposed to look like pubg characters😭😭 and plus i don’t think yg is going to put money into a song that was made for a documentary and then got leaked it’s just to make the fans happy lmaooo and ofc to get the money for the collaboration
FR! Pubg made it all, not YG. And the animation was pretty good for what Pubg usually does
The reason why it seemed so creepy is probably because of the uncanny Valley affect where the closer the person is closer to real life it starts to get creepy which is probably what's happening with the ai members
Yes
I think they didn't use Blackpink to do motion capture cause the only thing is missing here characters energy otherwise everything is lit
I think they did not do face mocap on the girls when singing this song. Their facial expressions when performing is one of the key aspects that we adore them so much.
So no one gonna talk about jisoo's awesome ready for love vocal
i think they did this because , they want to show this in game....so in a mobile game, we don't have that much resource for rendering realistic face, the faces of the members looks so low poly is the reason. they could have improved the rig for the facial animation, especially the eye area.
Face animation:
To me it looks like they had a very strong focus on the girls being really ethereal and perfect throughout the MV. I haven't seen any behind or 'making of' videos on this so it's hard to say for sure what went on in production, but someone made decisions that ended up ... boring.
Dancing:
Dancing is reaaaaallly hard to make not look so 'uncanny valley' without mocap.
Or worse, if they just didn't budget well for character animators at all
This is all my perspective, but if you read to here, I enjoy discussion :)
Comeback on their channel on August 8,they will release their comeback teaser
i really want u to react to their upcoming teasers as well cuz they r gonna be fire. The bornpink one is a bop
The thing I like about your videos is that you actually analyse, not literally just reacting
I'm glad i wasn't the only one disappointed. The girls of course are great in the song. They did as good as anyone could with this song.
I feel this could've been way better if they mixed both irl/visual fx like Dreamcatcher's Rose Blue and Deja Vu. Either that of CGI from the girl's themselves.
I would have preferred a live active mv so much more 😅
Yeah or a live dance choreo
Not related to the video but I’m so happy to see you wear your ring 🥲 congratulations once again!!!
no matter what everyone says, the team who made this are very experienced & professional on their league. the quality they put on this is insane.
I feel like most of us or most of the people I know kept their REAL insights about the MV since this was a big thing for us blinks, almost 620+ days of hiatus, I hope they will renew their contracts but it feels like this is the 2nd to the last comeback since they have a tour and of course, they need some break :((
kinda feel sad about it overall, but atleast I am happy for what they become🤗
The crazyness and the piano gave me life dudvdjdbdkd
they all deadass looked like actual pubg models and if anyone has played pubg yall know how crusty the player model is lolol
My little sister said the chorus gives top 10 most dangerous waterslides and I can't unhear it.
NAH FR THO
Animation is hard, man. Probably much harder than the editing in this music video. Yeah, they don't look perfect, but it's ANIMATION!! Of course they look plastic, they aren't real-
I have so many words but I don't know how to say them.
9:50 6 seconds of jordan orme dance therapy
the song was good but the quality in game was just NO
Yey! Finally you reacted on this one. I was waiting for like forever! 😍
If there's one thing PUBG is bad at, it's animating facial expressions.
