Samurai Shodown: The Motion Picture | KYOTO VIDEO

- KB crosses blades with the 1994 TV movie SAMURAI SHODOWN: THE MOTION PICTURE. Stuffed with poor animation, haphazard plotting, and the rare instance of an underutilized Nakoruru, this is one anime that is quite lacking in samurai spirit.

KB is his name and talking about old animation is his game! If you want deep analysis and history on the realm of retro anime and old animation, then you've come to the right place. Be warned though. Being a possum means he loves consuming trash, media-based or otherwise.

3:55 was that Woolie? edit: Yeah, thats Woolz.
Love this.
lol 15:54 I'd watch Haohmaru fight around Japan, as long as he had a tugboat sidekick ;)
You know it's weird that SNK hasn't done modern anime adaptations of their stuff. They really only did these things in the 90's, but besides Fatal Fury there's just too many missed opportunities. And while I'm a fan of Masami Obari's art enough to get some enjoyment out of Voltage Fighter Gowcaizer, it boggles my mind that *THAT* got an anime but they never did a Psycho Soldier or Crystalis/God Slayer: Sonata of the Distant Sky adaptation back in the day (I really feel like those ONLY could've gotten a good adaptation back in the day).
They really should try doing a SamSho anime again...
11:00 Now that's a president I'd vote for.
Always hype when you post!
It's kind of sad how often Amakusa Shirou is a villain in japanese media.
Yeah, he actually had some good intentions. Hell, even Nobunaga was villainized, even though he wanted to Unify Japan and stop the War!
That honestly kinda rubs me the wrong way, even if it is a cultural thing...
Do you consider reviewing the Virtua Fighter anime from the 90's? It is actually decent 👌
I discovered your channel thanks to Nick Knack’s Looney Tunes episode, and after going thru your available videos on that, I’ve been binging these anime retrospectives. So many memories and new classics to explore.
I hope you cover the Street Fighter animes and ESPECIALLY the Darkstalkers OAVs. I’ve got a bit mixed feelings regarding Darkstalkers, as I love the games but the OAV while gorgeous doesn’t have a good story or pacing. Still, more exposure to the series may eventually lead to a new game. Regardless, looking forward to more episodes!
Battle Arena Toshinden's anime was good tho
Well compared to this, Obari's fighting game adaptations are like Cowboy Bebop levels of good LOL!
Where the hell did that 'samurai blade/coke bottle' clip come from?
7:35 Based on the footage, that comes from the version of the film that's on UA-cam that has been TERRIBLY remastered. Although, no offence to the guy who tried, but it wasn't done well.
have you considered reviewing a yaoi? there's quite a few shitty 90's yaoi ova's that charm me in their own ways, like Kizuna with its English dub. I don't know I always find 90's anime style to be great no matter how shitty the animation and adding in gay makes it very aesthetically pleasing. However, if you think yaoi tropes are bad now, wait til you see like 90's yaoi. The way lgbt content is portrayed in older anime is fascinating for better and for worse
Yaoi is totally in the cards because its history is very fascinating. Probably won't be doing anything like My Sexual Harassment however.
@@KaiserBeamz 9:38 - So you saying that a white liquid flowing from that man's mouth would've been better?
Are you the gachimuchi-fan or something? XD
Ayyy my new fave yt channel!!!
If you're reviewing an anime based on a fighting game, and it's from the 1990s, chances are you're in for pain!
Unless it's Street Fighter: The Movie, Fatal Fury or the Darkstalkers OAV.
Edit: Marcy Rae...there's another name I miss from the old ADV classes of old.
dunno, the TV street fighter movie had some "so bad its good" elements to it
also, a shitton of shipping fuel for Ken and Ryu shippers (skinny dipping together for one)
I wasn't prepared for how similar this seems to the American Street Fighter cartoon. Oof.
Hey are you ever going to do a review on macross dyrl
Please do a Kyoto Video on Space Pirate Mito
hey kaiserbeamz my request can you do a kyoto video: sekirei
Unfortunately, I have to agree with all you have said about this movie. I was really disappointed by the poor story and animation. They definitely crammed the video game roster without caring about character development.
hey kaiserbeamz my request can you do a kyoto video outlanders anime ova 1986
Hope you'll review other SamSho's anime^^
All these problems with this anime, and here I am, wondering just what the heck did they do to Hanzo here! Is he a robot or something in this anime?
o_O
does seem like something made by people who never played the game. That's a recipe for disaster.
Hanzo has the best fuckin voice! 💯🤟🏻🤣
Btw did you know there's another samurai showdown? 🤔
About a year after Ninja Scroll, the censored version of Samurai Shodown appeared. Here it is, completely safe, cringey Saturday morning cartoon that refrains from blood or violence. Historically, Shiro Amakusa was a religious nut, a fringe Roman Catholic who led an uprising in the East. Despite his claim to wield the fire energy of spirits he was put on display in Nagasaki for the world to see.
Hey, it’s funny, I made a video about this film too ^^
Strange ADV Films may have gotten Amukusa's gender wrong (HE is supposed to be a very effeminate male) but they did pronounce his name right, unlike you throughout the whole review. Whoops.
Recently tried to watch the Darkstalkers anime. Couldn’t do it. It’s so bad.
4:10 WTF is that Aimee from Baten Kaitos? This voice acting is BAD!
The name pronunciation in this narration gets to me.
It’s not How-maru. It’s Hao-ma-ru. It’s not Ama-kusa, it’s A-ma-ku-sa. You enunciate every syllable equally.
The anime got this right. The video narration doesn’t.
