😂❤no big deal. It got to Calif. About 1 pm. Negative 11? I can't cope with my high desert mountain ghost town at 27 degrees last night! My plugs keep melting in my travel trailer. So I'm depending on electric blanket and heavy quilt. Heater quit in my cpap humidifyer too. Damn!❤😂you have Norther Lights because we had a huge X class solar flare this morning.!

Just a tip. Woodburner usually have air vents on the bottom front. If you shut the air intake a bit the fire won’t be so roaring and eat up your wood so fast at night. If nothing else, you can shut down the damper on the stove pipe some and it will do the same thing. Advice from a person who had the night shift, adding wood to keep us warm all night. ❤😊🎄

Drove me crazy that you didn't look for the breaker box and turn the power on. Plus, every wood burning stove has an air damper. I'm sure it's left wide open between guests so that moisture doesn't gut rust the stove out. BTW, you need an oil heater, AND a block heater. Both that can run on a secondary DC battery and AC power. If you can only choose one, get the oil heater. Don't get the one made in China, get one made in U.S.A. or Germany.

There's a main breaker switch outside the cabin somewhere to turn the power, they put there for fire prevention. They can shut off entire grids but not what is in your cabin. They do this here in colorado.

Cool cabin. I highly recommend learning how a dampener works on a wood stove. That’ll help keep you warm during the night. Also, you may have had to turn the breaker on in order to get your lights and outlets to work. Recommend following the conduit and seeing if it leads to a breaker panel.

I've never come across your channel before. I love it! First , I've never seen anyone who loves and is aware of the emotional potential of their dog child. Secondly, I too made a maiden voyage up to the Arctic Circle with my yellow lab and a KLR650 motorcycle. I lived in Eagle River, AK, for 16years working at the Alaska Native Medical Center in Anchorage. The owner of the store and gas station just south of the Yukon River let me park my 25" RV and KLR650. I then drove my motorcycle to the AC. I am so impressed with your achievements.

Do a search for (and learn about) wood stove damper. You can regulate the damper and air intake so it won't get too hot and also to make the fuel last longer overnight.
Also, any auto parts store up there will have a vehicle battery heater you can plug into the Jackery.

So cool to see that you were at this cabin! My dog Abby and I use them a lot because I don’t have good camping gear for these temps. Funnily enough, this is the only one in the interior that I’ve had the carbon monoxide detector go off for me 😅 I think I may have written about it in that notebook.
Stay safe and warm! (If you liked that cabin the one on chena hot springs road at granite tors is about the same size. The smaller ones are easier to heat. The angel creek cabins are about a 5 mile hike. They’re by the chena hot springs resort.)
Aaaaand the outlets are for generators that you bring. That’s why there was no power.

In Alaska we consider remote as a place you can’t drive your car or truck too. Places that are remote either have ATV, snowmachine, boat or airplane access. -20F isn’t that cold. We work in it and play in it all the time.

A few things. There are UA-cam tutorials out there about controlling wood stoves. i.e. adjusting the draft and the damper to control the heat and the rate of burn. I was also wondering if the power was shut off at the breaker box. It seems silly to have 110 wiring and no power for outlets and lights. Did you notice the mattress stashed under the bottom bunk? I'm old and had to learn all of these things the hard way. Love your videos. Sharing your adventures is a treat.

They are called "The Outdoor Boys" and they don't have the COMMENTS turned on yet. I don't know what the real math is for UA-camr's to make some serious coin (T.O.B.'s have about 1.5M-2M views of each), but I'm sure that he has it down to the math that you're trying to emulate.

We did that once and had to walk in 8 miles. Remember to have a sled or something to put your goods on. And don’t forget anything. You are not going to want to go back for it. Good job btw. Love u and blue. Continued success.

This does look so fun! I live at Red Top Mountain State Park in Georgia, and I sometimes rent a cabin there just to get away. It's only like 5 minutes from my house, but it's just so peaceful.

Awesome video! Helpful hint for your battery; turn off all of your vehicles accessories (radio and fan for hvac) prior to cold starting. If you don’t, once you turn your key in the ignition, the accessories will start first and have a draining effect on your battery.

🎉 You’re doing great…you’re surviving!!! I’ve got a couple of tips for you. Use the upper bunk, next time. Heat rises! You’ll stay warmer, longer. Also, that store-bought wood 🪵 is dry-as-a-bone. It’s great for kindling but burns really quick. Next time, before hitting the hay, put a “round” in your wood stove and it will burn longer into the night. (I noticed that the previous tenant had left some “round” branches for you to use.) It’s also more convenient to put another log in the wood stove the minute you start to feel cold. Just wake-up and take advantage of the coals leftover from the previous fire; that way you don’t have to build a fire from scratch. PLUS, if you have a fire/wood stove, save your isobutane for emergency use!!! Cook your food & beverages in a little metal pot. NOTHING hits the spot like HOT FOOD ‼️ That freeze dried dinner is COLD by the time that boiling water has saturated your dinner…especially when your room temperature is below freezing. (Maybe even think about putting your freeze dried meals in an INSULATED bag to help retain the heat, longer. (Soto makes a titanium cook set that has an insulated “bubble wrap” that help’s keep your bowl warm while you’re eating.)
Finally, besides a “freeze plug” heater for your engine block, get a “battery blanket” or “silicone heater” for your battery. Silicone heaters are great and easy to install. All you need is, one for your oil pan, one for your transmission, and one for your battery.
In the future, when you are trying to keep warm in the winter (in Poe or in a tent), try to utilize DRY HEAT sources. (4lb. mini-titanium backpack stove?!?) Gas stoves and heaters create a LOT of condensation and also gives off carbon monoxide, so be careful…maybe even get a CO monitor if you have to use a petroleum product.
Love your adventurous mindset!!! You’ve developed the skills to survive the next apocalypse ‼️

Here in New Brunswick, Canada, it gets to be -30 or even more (or less lol) in the run of a day. The maritimes can be crazy! Have you ever thought about an East Coast Canadian tour?? We’d be happy to provide any guidance we can! Cheers!
