One pocket saved me when no one would hire me for a min in NYC I had quit for 14 years but was able to pick it up fast with the help of some amazing players at Stienway billiards I wasn’t the same player I was back then but I kept my belly full and didn’t have to worry about where I was going to sleep.

When Jeremy Jones was talking about great players from the past, I am a little disappointed that he didn't mention a friend of mine. During the 80s and 90s Steve Cook was easily one of the top one pocket players in the country. He beat Allen Hopkins in his prime on several occasions! He won some major one pocket tournaments. It is a shame that there weren't more one pocket events back then!

Definitely Shannon Daulton, Big Bird, Cliff, Cooney, Nick (the wedge, sheeesh), of course JJ,,,, people don't realize how good Buddy was at One-Pocket....

Yup. You remember the comment Billy used to make about Buddy; _Don't come here thinking you can play nearly perfect pool to get the money; many players have done just that and failed."_ But they're also forgetting some noteworthy mentions for people like Ronnie Allen (whom there's virtually NO video of on YT from his prime ... and only a couple in his last few years of playing). And while Keith never quite played champion level 1P ... he is someone who moved the balls in a way that showed serious talent. Keith was obviously not a steady player -- but his speed control when he was on ??? His banking!?? Literally right there with Efren. And his ability to move balls towards his hole was exceptional.

I CANNOT believe how BADLY Alex missed the 2nd to last shot of game 2. Forget selling out -- I figured the worst he'd do was leave it within 3" of the pocket. Just watch the Alex vs Frost at HT for $20K ... I don't think he hit a single shot that badly in EIGHT HOURS. Honestly shocking.

Correction to a comment that JJ and John Schmidt made about the winners of the Open Championship it's not a 10 year exemption it's an exemption until the player is 60

exemption? means you got a pass, free from an obligation, e.g exempt from paying tax

JJ world class commentary as usual. Schmidt would improve leaps and bounds if he stopped talking over whomever he's commentating with. "Mmhmm" "ah hah" "that's right" "yup" while JJ is talking is just terrible.

I do not agree this notion that pool is supposed to be a money making racket. Just because I'm good at pool and spend a lot of time working on my game doesn't mean I want to or even like gambling or otherwise playing for money. Especially if it's a game I don't like, John.

I play around 30 hours a week and rarely rarely gamble I just don't care to like I did in my youth back then if I wasn't gambling I usually wasn't playing but at my age now it's just something I love to do and enjoy doing

Your right, doesn't have to be for money, but it's good to put something relatively important on the line if you are a competitive player. This prepares you for high pressure situations like this tournament.
If you are playing someone and you find yourself trying shots, then you are not competing, you are practicing/banging balls.
To me, wagering in a skill game, is the practice of playing under pressure.
If you think about it, entering a tournament isn't much different than gambling. But I don't even look at it like its gambling. Really, its just a competition for a prize in which you have contributed to, whether it's a tournament or a one on one match.
Gambling is betting on someone else.

Yeah, last shot of game 2 was shocking. The match I uploaded of Alex vs SBV playing $2,000 per game didn't have a single shot that bad ... in fact, if you included the following 8 hours he played vs Frost for $20k at hard times you won't find a single shot as bad as his last of game 2 ... and yes, the video is on my YT account.

This is a perfect example of what happens when you briefly loose your confidence. If you don't get it in check, it's a snowball effect.

Is Scott Frost the only decent commentator around? I am so weary of all these war tales and constant babbling and everyone talking at the same time.
