I still find it hard to believe Ryan was born in '88 with all the knowledge he has acquired... would love to see a talk from Ryan, Mark, and Jim discussing Monolithic vs. Bonded bullets and why Ryan prefers the Mono so much more.
PS .35 Rem 10 Min Talk!
The guys that are all at the leading edge of machining, reloading, and rifle building are all stacked in the same age group. My boss is an old school reloader, is so shocked when me and another guy at work are loading with powder and bullets never heard of, and shooting farther than he's ever tried.
Please do a 10 minute talk on the 257 Weatherby. I love my 257 and I'm getting insane performance from it.
They need to do a full segment podcast on weatherby and the cartridges they produced. Same with Ackley
@@anonymousf8406 101 gr LRX at 3800 FPS. Over 3200 ft.lbs of energy at the muzzle.
@@ReloadingWeatherby What's the biggest game you could take with something like that? And what's the longest shot you would be comfortable taking on let's say a deer, pronghorn, or coyote with that sucker?
I want a episode about the 257 Weatherby Mag. I've wanted one for years but haven't pulled the trigger yet. Y'all guys are great, I love the 10 minute cartridge talks and the your full podcast episodes. Keep up the good work.
There is a bit of a cult following here in western Canada. If you own one you tend to love it.
Squeeze the trigger, watch the deer fall, feel the very mild recoil.
I love my Weatherby rifles and cartridges!
Gentleman, I just want to convey what an absolute auditory pleasure listening about such iconic calibers in history. I have never owned a Weatherby rifle, or a rifle chambered in a Weatherby caliber. I will be turning 50 years old this July and appreciate the ideation of passing a rifle of significance down to my sons one day. I believe one will be cambered in a .280 Ackley improved and the other in a Weatherby caliber. The thought of this warms my heart. Boys, your conversations and knowledge warms my heart. I'm a Registered nurse of 27 years and after a long 12 hour shift look forward to a Podcast of yours to unwind.
First off - thank you for everything you do and all of your work in the healthcare industry! Thank you for tuning into the podcast as well! Happy to hear that you enjoy it and keep us posted on what you go with! Thanks for being a part of Vortex Nation and if you ever need anything, don't hesitate to give us a shout.
Holy moly, a review that isn't trying to sell me something, provides data and real experiences. I'm listening.
Ive had my .240 Wby MarkV paired with a Redfield Accutrac for over 30 years. The guys I hunt with call it the laser because of its flat trajectory and accuracy. I originally bought this gun for the reduced recoil due to some physical limitations. Absolutely love this gun.
244 H&H Magnum released in 1955 is the fastest factory loaded 6mm.
H&H is the only company to ever chamber it and Norma provided the ammo.
244 H&H Magnum is a necked down 375 H&H Magnum.
My requests have been answered thank you! And yes when you compare box ammo it doesn’t seem much faster then a 243 but when you reload you can get quite a bit more out of it you just can’t get a 243 to do. Even Barnes reloading book themselves have the 80 gr ttsx at 3700
I’d get it in a backcountry TI 2.0 that weights 4.9 lbs. Perfect pronghorn gun.
I have the 240 Weatherby Mag made out of an old WWII mauser. I love it. Extremely fast and very low recoil. It was my wife's elk rifle. It's taken down every elk shot with it. 30 06 case makes it easy to run in mauser action with new 240 barrel replacement.
First of all I am a total WBY guy however the podcast you conducted on the 3006 vs 308 was totally awesome and a learning experience for me, thanks. I like the big bores however last year I decided to add to my collection and purchased the 240 (absolutely no regrets). My reloads with 100 gr interlocks shot 1/2 Moa. This gun shoots lights out with no noticeable recoil. While I Hunt with 30 calibers I do not know if I am ready to hunt with a 6mm yet, however what an accurate pleasant gun to shoot, this was absolutely a great WBY experience. I will add this comment I always hear this is an obscure caliber with little or no public interest. I don't know how that is possible just surf around for this caliber the selection is almost unlimited in the MK5 or Vanguard offerings, I cannot believe WBY would make so many guns in this caliber if they did not sell. You like camo guns last I purchased the Multi Cam for under 500 bucks unbelievable price for a great shooting and great looking gun. I delighted I added this to my WBY collection, Regards
Definitely appreciate these caliber discussions
I am in the process of a Dakota 97 build 240 WBY, 1-8 twist... now I'm really excited to get it finished up.
I shot an 83 5/8 goat, and it was at least as big/heavy as a good whitetail buck. Thanks Guys
great discussion!!! would like too see one on the 257 and thoughts on performance with faster twist barrels and higher bc bullets. keep'em coming!!
The 240 weatherby has always interested me so I finally bought a Mark V Hunter in the bronze. It shoots pretty good and I'm planning on using it this year for Pronghorn in Wyoming.
This was great, looking forward to more of these.
I have an old 240 Weatherby Mark 5 made in West Germany, with a 9 lug action. Great gun very accurate, I haven't shot anything with it, but I might take it hunting this fall.
A great discussion. I have not owned Weatherby rifle but would love to try one in the .257 Wby Mag.
It's always interesting learning about different cartridges
As a newbie being a gun enthusiast, this is fascinating describing how all the different ammo types work.
257 Wby Mag???? Lots of us asking for it. Keep your viewers happy:))))
I have .240 mag in mark v deluxe and i just love it... it,s a tack driver!
Another cool and informative video. Thanks guys! Maybe going along with the Weatherby theme, maybe do a 460 weatherby mag talk? 🤔
I have wanted an episode on the 240 from you guys. I have dreamed of owning a 240, but have held off due to the fact that a few years back I found a phenomenal deal on a brand new 257 Weatherby and I have not been able to justify buying the 240. Yes the 257 Roy has a little more recoil, but I can get 3500+ fps with a Barnes 100g TTSX. My 243 Win pushes a 90g Nosler AB at 3120 fps and those two guns work for me. HOWEVER, I still have not been able to completely shake the 240 bug. I am going to be calling wolves in Idaho this fall and a 240 Weatherby would be a wolf slayer. Someday I will probably get one.
I can vouch you a 240 will in fact hammer wolves, long range coyotes and whitetail in idaho with a very underwhelming amount of recoil. Also I just bought a vanguard accugaurd to save money still shoots right at a half minute with weatherby select box ammo
I use to have a 240 wby mag in a Vanguard as a kid that we lost in a house fire. Only thing I didn't love about the gun was buying ammo!
Thank you for more weatherby
Thank you so much for this information.
Absolutely love the 240 weatherby!!
One of my favorite calibers!
Love these videos you put out.
These ten minute talks always end up being longer than 10 minutes and I like that.
Very good knowledge on this podcast.
Love my 257 weatherby. Haven’t found a single head of game that could shake it off yet!!
Love these episodes on little known cartridges.
Very impressive amount of knowledge
ironically, I was about to ask you guys to talk about the 6.5-300!!!! PLEASE! So intriguing.
An excellent cartridge which has stood the test of time
I have 240 weatherby with an 8 twist barrel, I love it. Great round, just a little pricey to shoot.
Well, back before effective rangefinders were easily obtainable, we were too busy trying to cancel gravity to worry too much about wind drift.
I didn't carry a Ranging 1000 to shoot out to 1000 yards; even partnered with a 220 Swift, its falloff in precision pretty much limited the package to about 500 yards.
Good info, I liked it
Great discussion guys.
Another great video with plenty of info
I've been very happy with Weatherby rifles. The .240 Weatherby mag cartridge has never really been of interest to me until listening to this podcast.
great discussion
1988 I got socks older than
him! This round is wicked fast and a barrel burner!
I'm always intrigued by these discussions and really don't even have a dog in those hunts!
I own a 240 weatherby. Vanguard model. Shoots amazingly well. I got lucky, picked a load from the nosler manual. 85 grain nosler partition. Sends them into .75 group at 100 yards. I bought a used Vanguard in 257 weatherby, and a new 240 weatherby at the same time. Both in Vanguard S2 models. I have replaced the 257 weatherby with a new model, still have the 240. Only game I've taken is a few groundhogs with the 85 partitions.
Great show.
Great info.
Great video!
didn't have much experience with 240. good info
That was a very interesting subject.
Very informative
We need a 10 minute talk on bullets, but make it a battle of sorts. Have everyone decide on what bullet they think is the best and come to the table to debate on why it's the best in the ten-ish minute talk form
Good discussion for sure.
These guys know their stuff !
very informative. I was not familiar with the 240 Weatherby Mag.
Love the discussion
Great podcast!!
Great talk
very informative
Very good info.
A great discussion I never knew interested me.
Great knowledge!
Quite informative
Thank You!
love these videos
I have a Mark V super ultra lightweight prototype in .240 wby. I live in California and this thing is perfect for the state. Wasn't my first choice in caliber, but I loved the gun and there was only one. The caliber has grown on me now, but it's very niche. I grew up using a 6mm Remington and a .257 Roberts. I have an affinity for smaller odd calibers. Its good if you like it.
Lots of good info there
I learned some things I didn't know from this video
Great knowledge
Gents, love the cartridge talks! Would love to hear one on big bore AR-15 cartridges, particularly .375 SOCOM! Keep it up!
@@VortexNation awesome; can’t wait! Love what you guys do and the products the company produces. Thank you greatly for the response.
Thank YOU for being part of Vortex Nation. Your support truly means the world to us!
Interesting info.
Very cool info
I was looking hard at the .240 aswell and settled on the .243 for availability. I know have 3 rifles chambered in .243 .
My uncle owned a 240 Weatherby Mag and he loved/swore by it.
This is useful information.
Interesting conversation
Awesome caliber!
I am speechless. thank you
Have one in a mark v accurate and like the cartridge alot.
Didn’t even know these Wetherby calibers were a thing. Pretty cool topic
I have toying around with the 257 Weatherby, now you got me thinking on the 240.
I feel like those need to be in mark v deluxe wood stock
.257 Weatherby is my go to. It's got the touch of god and a point blank range of ~380 yards with 100 grainers. Just be prepared to spend 50 BMG prices for ammo. :/
@@Sceptis no kidding. We got my wife the 6.5rpm and she loves it. Even at $100+/- a box. Out of or 27years of marriage she applied and shot her first whitetail doe.
Still leaning towards the .257 for myself.
A very informative video
I bought a 240 weatherby mark v deluxe a couple months ago, manufactured in 70s. Just got a leupold for it a few weeks ago. Haven't gotten it mounted yet, but super excited to shoot it. Had no reason to buy it other than "just because". Filled a void in the safe. I have the 300 roy and 7mm roy in mark v deluxe too. Also bought a 7mm roy and 270 roy in custom pre 64 70's. I just love those old cartridges and classic rifles with wood stocks. Ill let the rest of you fight over the creedmores with the synthetic stocks...
Have used this gun for hunting pronghorn several times. The gun is worth every penny. Never looked back purchasing the gun.
Good info.
Another vote for a .257 Wby Mag discussion
Seconded!
Turded!
I'm with you!
100%
.257 Weatherby Magnum is a laser with bullet weights that are more substantial, will pole axe elk and down with ease. Benefits from tighter twist if you can get it.
For today, I would just do .25 Sherman Short Tactical in a short action.
