Thank you for watching todays Dragonlance Setting episode. Do you mind me talking a little Ravenloft since it deals with Lord Soth? Have you ever played a Raveloft campaign? Leave a comment below!
Actually I believe Ravenloft was made for peeps like Lord Soth. I've played Ravenloft 2nd ed DnD many times. I've met Count Strahd twice and was never turned into a vampire. The first time I thought I killed him. After reading the Ravenloft module I realized that evil never dies. The second time I was sent on a mission to thwart Lord Soth. It didn't go well for my character. Like I said earlier, I've played Ravenloft many times. I've never been a dungeon master for the game The rules are too much for me. As a player I can pretend things might turn out okay. The truth is that almost never happens. I love that Count Strahd and Lord Soth are neighbors in Ravenloft. Reminds me of the movie Grumpy Old Men. Although I am not crazy about the module Where Black Roses Bloom I do consider it part of the story and I treasure any nugget of information about Lord Soth.
I ran a Ravenloft game set in Sithicus for most of high school. Lord Soth is my favorite Dragonlance and Ravenloft character. Sad to see him leave Ravenloft.
@Kusabiii legend has it that Tracy Hickman hated Soth in Ravenloft and made it an issue. So at the end of one of novels (When Black Roses Bloom?) Soth gets sent back to Krynn. The remains of Sithicus are mentioned on the new Ravenloft campaign setting.
Thanks for covering this. Like many Lord Soth is a very intriguing persona. The novels were interesting. Sad that Ravenloft was a bust, he was an Anti-hero there. Many of us weren't too happy with his final death.... for such a great character he was just thrown away. Yet I guess apathy will go hand in hand with one who is cursed.
Personally I enjoy when other planes of existence are entwined. It's flavorful for gaming . I really liked the interactions between Dark Lords, especially Soth and Strahd (because I'm so familiar with them), though I was a little disappointed in Soths relative weakness when confronting Strahd. His all too obvious evil helped Tanis to let go of Kit. The death force is not to be gainsaid even by love. Each of us must accept it in our own way.
@@cheeseburgerkid1329 Yeah but Ravenloft isn't your normal Dungeons and Dragons world. Ha. Like any DnD world is normal. Also Lord Soth was a newcomer to Ravenloft so Count Strahd has him at a disadvantage. Lastly if you read Strahd's stats and powers you can see that he isn't your average vampire just like Soth isn't your average Death Night. Just saying that Ravenloft is not Dragonlance. It has completely different rules.
@@myrtislockett7792 I know you are correct but my reaction wasn't solely rational. I was more emotionally attached to Soth. In fact, according to Von Richten there are 7 different age categories for Vampires, each one more powerful than the last. I also understand that Dark Lords have many different powers.
@@cheeseburgerkid1329 I wasn't trying to correct you. Everyone has a different interpretation of Ravenloft. I like that each Domain had their it's own villain and they rained supreme. Strahd is not just a vampire but also a extremely powerful necromancer. As long as he has been Lord of Barovia he can increase in power similar to a Lich. Depending on the conflict Strahd can entertain any adversary as long as necessary and always has secret reprieve available to him. His invulnerable is in fact his curse. That is why for me escaping Ravenloft is the only way to defeat the Land of Dread.
A cross over is a great way to get new life out of an old character. Aliens vs Predator Batman vs Predator (comic book) Torturing Kender to death and turning them into Vampires! I feel that even Takhisis would be like: "Dude too far..."
@@trieze90 well that's the $25,000 question. How exactly did he do that or is the devil in the details ? That is the beauty of Dungeons and Dragons. You can do whatever you want. I can tell you how my storyline goes if you want to know. I'd love to hear yours. You can make it up on the fly if you like. That is how some Dungeon Masters roll.
I wasn't familiar with Sithicus, really cool. Vampire Kender? That's awesome! When my character Anik dies, likely from a falling rock dropped on his head from the DM, I hope he's turned into a Vampire Kender!
@@johnrhyne9729 agreed! There's something extra scary (and disturbing) about taking a fun-loving and innocent minded creature and converting it to a tool of evil
I think it was silly that Margaret Weis and Tracy Hickman denied Soth is in Ravenloft. It's kind of like taking Tiamat and Bahamut and putting them in Dragonlance, when they're Forgotten realm deities and calling them Takhisis and Paladine and then denying the connection between them.
The rational with Tiamat and bahamut was that each IP had total control of all its elements, rather than being a shared universe. TSR taking Soth to Ravenloft and DL taking him back is pretty rational in that light.
Is there anything on the blessed knight that walked out of Nedragaard Keep after Lord Soth left Sithicus? I haven't found much on the character and I love the lore of Lord Soth.
Here's a joke for you guys. What type of heavy metal does Lord Soth prefer ? Answer: Death Metal. Not really my brand. Maybe because I am not a Death Knight. I prefer progressive heavy metal.

He's pretty much my favorite villain wherever he pops up.

Love ravenloft. I still have all of the original supplements published by TSR. I loved that Lord Soth got his own Domain...
That’s awesome!
Lord Soth is my 2nd favorite Dragonlance character after Raistlin.
Nice!

Yea, especially with hundreds of years of reflection is thrown into the mix.

The dynamic between Strahd and Soth bugged me a bit too. Soth is a Death Knight, much more powerful than a vampire.
@@DLSaga Exactly! Vampires have a 18 at 76% and Death Knights 18 at 100%. I would have enjoyed seeing Strahd worried for once.

Torturing Kender to death and turning them into Vampires! I feel that even Takhisis would be like:

Haha
Excellent video. I'm a big fan of his time in Ravenloft.
Nice!
Actually I believe that Ravenloft is a parallel universe and that Lord Soth can actually exist in both the Dragonlance and Ravenloft universe.

Didn’t know about any of this! Awesome video! Vampire kender ?!
Kinda messed up stuff.
Talesofthegrim did an excellent actual play set in this domain.
Really? I’ll have to look into it.
It's was about 3 years ago.
Soth's first Ravenloft book was most excellent; I couldn't get into the second one.
I really enjoyed it as well.
Always excited to see a new video.
Every Tuesday is a new setting video.
@@DLSaga I'm putting that on the calendar.

The more you know. 🌈
Kender Vampires were my favorite monster from Ravenloft back in the day. The concept was ridiculous, but also terrifying!!

I love how Soth basically waited out Raveloft until it got bored with him and spit him out.
haha, so true
I am about to start playing a Ravenloft game set here.

I’m not aware of any.
Where Black Roses Bloom....
Yep!
Do you know what the correct size (in miles) Sithicus is?
I do not. the first source that I would look would be AD&D 2e, When Black Roses Bloom.
