That’s pretty much a no-no when carrying weapons. As far as I’m aware the rules are that weapons should always be carried pointing up and never at anything that isn’t a target. Pointing down is incorrect because of the possibility of a ricochet, and the safety catch should never be trusted. I can assure you that these rules were not always followed. I grew up in Derry and on more than one occasion had a squaddie take a bead on me as I just walked down a quite busy street in the middle of the day. Not pleasant.
