Interesting video. I enjoyed it, thank you. One thing I would like to mention is about the hat. You said when they made it they made it wrong… When describing the turn. Actually, and you probably realize this, they did not make it wrong. You just deliberately turn the hat so the center back is off center left then you reshape the pinch into The front. That way the oval is off and it causes the brim to have that swoop. Anyway great job on the aging for the streets of Cairo
Although it's not screen accurate... I like what you did. It has it's own unique character and shape and yet it still defines as an Indy hat... Well done. I just bought an Akubra Federation IV open crown hat and I'm trying to find a shape that I really like and your Cairo is the style that I want to copy.
Check out the Akubra Adventurer- it is designed to replicate the Indiana Jones hat much more closely. It comes with the front brim turned down, but the crown is open so you can bash it yourself. Easy to shape; I was successful despite never having bashed a hat before in my life. Comfy, fits well, and looks oh-so-good. All I could want in a hat! :)
elveggoloco I love mine. I watched about a thousand vids and read a couple more thousand pages of web and settled on the Adventurer and so well pleased. I can roll it up put it in my cargo pocket, pull it out, shake it, and put it on and it looks perfect.
I don’t think the new fed hats have a taper. UPDATE. I have a new Akubra and they updated the hat shape, it does not taper at all and makes a perfect raiders hat

I know Dorfman gets a bad rap but I have to say the best Indiana Jones hat they make might just be the IJ 559 which I own and love and comparing it to this its quit similar so I'm proud I own it. I've compared it to the movies so I say the hats a raiders brim with crusade style sides and a Temple crown.
It belongs in a museum!

I scooped up an open crowned Akubra through David Morgan and bashed it Raiders style. Super easy. It has awakened an interest in me, that’s for sure.

Turpentine will rot the stitching and the liner will fall out.
