I was the 3d ID Psychiatrist 1988-90 and so enjoyed reliving my memories of my times with my wife Sheri at Leighton Barracks, though we lived closer to Kitzingen and my office was at Larson Barracks. Sheri performed her one-woman show about the Holocaust on the Leighton Barracks high school stage. We were in Berlin over New Years 1990 when the Wall came down. How wonderful to witness this slice of history. Rock of the Marne!

THANK YOU! I was there as a child and Military dependent. I later went back as an active duty Soldier. Leighton Barracks and Würzburg holds a special place in my heart. Great Job!

I served in Kitzingen from 1971-1975. Yes, it is sad to see the old buildings torn down. Then I recall that we had a mission there. We won without firing a shot. The best days of my life were there.

My 3-1/2 years in Wurzburg back in 1960-64 were some of the best years of my life as a new US Army Lieutenant, Signal Corps. I matured, developed life-long friendships, met my wife (although we didn't marry until we'd both returned to the US) of 54 years, and still have many, many warm, beautiful memories. This recap gave me more insight into the origins of the base as well as an update on its current status. Thanks for reviving some of those memories for us both.

WOW, I was Special Services Librarian at Leighton Barracks from 1964-66 maybe we met! :) Also was a folksinger and performed in the first Hootenanny in the Gym as well as singing in the Officer's Club. Met the service man I married 54 yrs. ago!!!

We were here from 1999 until 2003, even got married in the Chapel, which seems to be still there and had the reception at the Cantigny club. Lots of tax dollars were poured into this installation for renovation during that time. Mistakes were made and Leighton somehow ended up on the BRAC list. No coming back from that. Sad, but I guess it lives on in a different configuration, a new lease on life.

Oh, you should ! We've been there twice, and loved every minute of it. I was stationed at Giebelstadt Air Force Base from 1964-1967, and attended U. of Maryland classes
at Leighton. I first went back in 2000 and it was almost surreal. So little had changed. Unlike the U.S., developers rule nothing there, and major changes to buildings and
roads simply aren't done unless necessary, apparently. Even then, the work is done sensibly and with well thought out planning. That's my impression anyway.
But you definitely should make the trip if you can. You will not be disappointed.

@@rolandflade Thank You Roland!! If you ever find yourself over there and think of it, my barracks was the first billet on the right behind the gym. Just down the road about 80 yds was the Mess Hall... those guys really did us proud in '73. In Summer, they built a BBQ grill, and cooked hamburgers, hot dogs, chicken, ribs and a couple times we had NY Strip steaks and corn on the cob! Those guys were the best!! But thank you for all the videos and info. Something about Wurzburg and Leighton Barracks that when you've lived there it stays with you... I'm 65 now, and still miss it, and think about my time there often. I'm very grateful to
you for these updates too.! Take Care Roland!! Thanks again! Signing off from Buffalo NY! :-)

I arrived at Leighton in June 1975. Guess where I was “LUCKY” enough to get assigned? #EmeryKaserne! This place was a trip! I spent 2 days at Leighton,3 visits to the Hospital trying for a Section 8! And this time they pulled 3 teeth at once I was bedridden at Emery cause the bleeding would not STOP!!! Even Sgt. Wills a Vietnam veteran was impressed. Jesus Christ Clifford? Are you still BLEEDING?

I was born there when my Dad was stationed there in the 60’s. Before he died we watched some You Tube videos. He said he wanted to take me and my husband back. Sadly it didn’t happen. I think living in Wutzburg was some of the happiest years of their life. We came back to America on my first birthday.
