Using Remote Desktop to Control 2 Scopes

- I was asked by a couple of Group members how I set up my gear for Remote Desktop sessions. In this video, I will show the various connections and switches that I'm using to make this work for me. I made all the CAT cables myself and installed all the RJ45 ends. After spending $120.00 for the last USB3 Active Repeater cable. Enough was enough! I decided to look at other options and decided the Remote Desktop was the answer for me. You do need Win10 Pro on all the computers and then enable Remote Desktop on each computer you wish to use. I purchased 2 HP Z Mini G5 Workstations for each scope. Then I had to purchase a 5 Port Switch. I already had a bunch of CAT cable and ends. My cost was the 2 computers and that one switch. I also needed to buy a Win10 Pro upgrade Key for my MSI Master machine. This machine was on Home. You can find cheap Pro Keys for around $20.00 on the web. I've been very happy with this change to running my sessions with 2 scopes. I will not go back! Thanks for watching. If you have any questions... You know where I live!

Well thought out!
Thanks, James It was worth the effort!
good job,i do the same. just a simple 1 gig switch to some mini pc s.
Thanks, kajouman I've been meaning to do this for way too long! Glad I finally dropped the hammer and just did it...
that's impressive
Thanks, Dan This should help you out I hope...
My guess is that the 8 port "switch" is connected to the router. I have a laptop in each of the three observatories. I do have 3 desktops in the house
Dan, the 8 port switch is in the basement and that is connected to the router. I have many more wired devices that I didn't need to talk about in this video. Some of those are on that basement 8 port switch. That's were I have an office.
@@jeffrh I will keep watching it esp. the earlier parts of the video. The rest is quite straightforward.
Is the switch on the cart the 8 port switch?
5 Port Dan... 4 of the 5 are in use...
Not too clear about the 2 computers on the cart....everything else is falling into place...I will watch the beginning several times...other thing I will need is a close up of the colour coded wires through the transparent ethernet connector esp. with reference to the clip on the connector
Sure thing Dan... When your ready to start making cables... I'll send you the cable layout.
