Apparently in a pole Toho made back in 2014 in Japan Minilla was actually one of the most loved kaijus of the franchise by the Japanese fans and public in general, but in everywhere else in the world (except Japan) everyone hates Minilla

I think the reason Minilla looks like that is because he hatched prematurely.
Maybe it was a different dose of radiation from the ones that mutated the two showa Godzillas.
Personally Minilla's face seems to be the inspiration of Baby SInclair from Jim Henson's Dinosaurs.

Are any of the Godzilla movies even connected? All the Godzilla movies (besides 98) is connected to the first ever film back in 1954 Godzilla. He is talked about in every movie, His death is shown, His bones, Practically Everything. In Godzilla 2014 his bones might have been shown and for final wars Godzilla Kiryu had the Bones of Godzilla 1954 in him so basically Every Godzilla film is atleast connected to Godzilla 1954
