  • Icom has released firmware version 1.24 for the IC-705. This video will show you how to perform the upgrade. You will need an SD card formatted in the radio. Chances are you’ve already done this previously.
This version seems to be a bug-fix release, but there are two feature changes.
Don’t forget to download and update the new version of the CS-705 programming software and the RS-BA1 Control software as well. You’ll need this for compatibility with the new firmware.

@VK3FS At 00:26 you are showing a 64GB SDXC card but the information on screen shows the max supported card is a 32GB SDHC. I am wondering if you are actually using a 64GB SDXC in your 705 or if this is just an example microSD card image. I ask because I just bought a 705 (will be in my hands tomorrow, yay!) and am about to purchase a microSD card for it and want to get the best/biggest card I can *that is supported by the radio*. So, it's either a 32GB SDHC (as indicated by the manual information on screen at 00:26 or it's a 64GB (perhaps even bigger?) SDXC. Would appreciate your input on this question. Also, great video, thanks!

Hi Michael, well spotted. The specs say 32Gb and the graphic does have a 64 Gb card. I do have a 32 Gb card in mine so I'd stick to that. You'll have tons of room on 32 Gb. I have a feeling you'll love the new radio. It's a great workhorse and is very robust. Your dilemma will be storing and transporting. It's not really a radio you'd just want to throw on the front seat of the car unprotected. The AH-705 is a good investment too. Good DX!

@@VK3FS Thanks! I ordered a AH-705 but they are on backorder 😵. I also picked up the Icom backpack, but am worried that the Windcamp ARK-705 may not fit. Either way, I imagine that I'll be trying all sorts of configurations over the next few months. Again, thanks for the excellent video and for taking the time to reply. All the best! KT2T

I wish Yaesu could learn from ICOM on how to update firmware for a radio.

I take it from your comment that Yaesu don't offer a software update path?

@@VK3FS They do, but their process is ridiculously convoluted in comparison.

Doesnt the radio get hot stuck in the foam while TX'ing?

@@VK3FS mine got pretty hot taking for 30 minutes on 440. Digital modes may do the same. Thanks for the reply.

@@forgetyourlife Interesting. I was on UHF last night for a good hour but only running 2 watts. I use mine primarily for driving transverters. The pick and pluck foam seems to do a good job as it's not that dense compared to moulded inserts.

@@VK3FS huh, I was using 10w and the swr is probably high on the collinear it was going through.
