Wonderful speech! I enjoyed it tremendously. Storytelling and sociological reflection are mixed in a such masterful way, that one gets engaged both personally and professionally, emotionally and intellectually (in no way suggesting they are or should be separated). This way of doing research has a great appeal to me. I often thought something important is missing in the majority of sociological works, and they tell very well, what it is. They seem to speak directly to my heart)
I stumbled on this speech and as being a multicultural older woman who went to school thinking I would be able to teach. Now on my second PhD seeing life from the barrios to the failures of life and suffering. You both are so real. The minute I have a question you answer it. This is so great!!! Thank you 🙏.
Lovely to see how they like each other. What they say about autoethnography is significant: connecting stories and theories, making things better for others, the politics of research, the human sciences, first person accounts and personal narratives as sociology, getting in tune with self and seeing self as actor, writing well, oral histories
Thank you for your insight and contribution on the field. I need to meet you. I crossed the Sahara and traveled Europe before coming here. I have to write my story connected to the socio, econo and political context . i speak 6 languages.
