I'm not sure why Daisy was left out to begin with. She was in every strikers game up to this point, in every mario party since 3 and in every mario kart since double dash.
I'm a simple man. I don't see Daisy, I don't get the game until she's in. Edit: Well damn... most engagement with a comment I've ever received. As a Daisy main for the mario sports games and smash bros ultimate, I just find her not being included in the base roster strange.

As I tell some friends. Rosalina is living Daisy's dreams. To me she's the "blonde Princess Daisy" by this point since she is everywhere and had replaced Daisy starting with Smash Bros and now this. I still want this game even if Daisy isn't in it. However it is criminal for Nintendo to not add her in this. Daisy is to iconic in all the sports games to not be included this way. Sides she's supposed to be a partner to Peach. Is Nintendo forgetting that?

And yeah Nintendo made a huge mistake in cutting down roster size to 10 characters for launch and leaving out one of the most important characters for the Strikers series. I hope they fix this because I'm not paying 60 bucks for a mediocre game of the Mario Strikers series.
They really need to get their act together and stop being half-ass over these sports games. They used to be so good with these things. Now it's just them being greedy. Giving us little content for high priced games. Just isn't right at all.

I know even if she's added back to the game, some people are still going to complain to Nintendo about why she wasn't added in the base game. She should've been in the base game and Rosalina should've been DLC.
I feel like Nintendo's just now caught up with the current game industry. Triple A game companies nowadays have to push games out the door to please shareholders, regardless if they're actually finished, and it's easier to do that because of digital distribution. Such a shame too, Nintendo was almost always about making sure the game was a great experience and worth playing. At least we still have the indie game market keeping up to motto of 'more bang for your buck'.
With the value of your buckskins, it's not the devs who are going to bang let alone eat over the pace at which they have to "please shareholders" and churn out produce. And with the amount of produce in your backlog, that's the only kind of bang YOU are going to have time for, as it only whizzles out with an unimpressive whiff.
You're spitting straight facts with this vid. The free update model is probably the single biggest problem with modern Nintendo, and you nailed why it's such a bad idea. People who buy the game at launch are disappointed with the lack of content, then no one is around to play when the actual good updates happen, so Nintendo stops updating the game since no one cares anymore. Strikers feels like the last straw for people's patience with this stuff, which is sad because it has a lot of personality. I really hope they stop doing this in the future and start releasing content filled games again on day one.
I hope so! It's starting to feel like a once month thing. Switch Sports, Mario Strikers and next month is Splatoon 3. I'm not really a Splatoon guy, but I'm praying for those who are, especially considering it's out so soon and we've seen so little.
Updates in general are a big part of why modern gaming is dying. Or at least why it has suffered horribly. I cant hardly think of a game anymore that doesn't have to have comstant updates in order to "remain relevant". We have seen so many old games come and go and they still have their own communities to this day because what was delivered in that game was so good and lasting that it didn't need DLC to keep its interest going. I think people need to go back to the attitude when a game was completed and you should feel lucky if it gets extra content afterwards. I prefer when devs had the incentive to complete the game without updates. First impressions are important and filling your hollow experience of a game with confetti doesn't replace the substance we once could expect from a Day 1 product.
I haven't even watched the video yet, but why are people disappointed with the lack of content when purchasing a game when you know Nintendo has adopted a free update model? That's like walking up to someone and slapping them in the face KNOWING you're going to get punched in retaliation, but then acting surprised when you get punched. If they were to wait to release the game until all the content was developed, you'd presumably get the game at the same time as when the free updates have finished anyway. The way it is now, you essentially get to try the game early when purchasing it. All the content will be there, for free, eventually, so I don't understand the problem. It's either "try the game now and get the full game months from now", or "get the game months from now". Personally, I'd rather try the game as early as possible.
I disagree. This model keeps online playerbases active and having a diverse spread of all skill levels instead of just the hardcore and top tier players.
Not gonna lie I've stopped buying/looking forward to a lot of Nintendo's newer releases for this reason. I started to see a trend with a lot of series, not just Nintendo, where the hype of the game overrules what actually is delivered. Sucks that Nintendo has gotten to this point...
I get that feeling with alot of games battle league is unfortunately another casualty in this my fears was the game would be bar bones but it was so bare bones that the first mario strikers had more to offer
I'm kind of glad to have just picked up my switch and be a couple years behind on picking stuff up. Maybe by the time I get through animal crossing, zelda botw and pokemon this game will be ready.
I just love how undecided people are towards game development, like, one day they say: "DONT RUSH GAMES, STOP CRUNCHING THE DEVS!" just to later on say: "WHY IS IT TAKING SO LONG??? IM CRAVING FOR NEW GAMES GIVE ME SOMETHING NOW!!!" and to end like we are now, saying: "STOP RELEASING UNFINISHED GAMES, I DONT WANT FREE UPDATES, I WANT THE FINISHED PRODUCT". You can't have everything at the same time, and I have seen the 2nd case more often than not, mainly with Zelda fans crying for BOTW2 to be released tomorrow just to start crying for a new Zelda, and you can apply this to any franchise.
All they got to do Is give a delay announcement botw 2, prime 4 & I'm good, but to others who might be short on time due to life. It's hard to plan towards. Your point still sticks though & they need to watch how games are made before losing hope aka F zero.
There's honestly no question about it in my mind whenever this question comes up. The gaming market becomes more and more saturated every year so it's not like anyone will ever run out of things to play, so I don't know why anyone would ever have a problem waiting for a complete game
Aero GPX (and Super Pilot) will be finally complete and playable before Nintendo acts right. And both games I mentioned are the most true to F-Zero's style.
I've literally gone out of my way to buy games just because they have Daisy in it, she's actually why I got into the Mario sports games after being exposed to and falling in love with her in Double Dash.
With not that many characters playable in Battle League, it just shows how the reception is dropping. Hopes were high, especially being a sequel to Mario Strikers Charged in 15 years, but now all the hype has evaporated all the sudden.
Agreeeeed. I'm not gonna harp on this specifically because Daisy was left aside as DLC, but the fact they are pushing aside characters who usually are always up front in center in these spin offs is just telling me this whole "free update" thing is getting worse. Can't wait till they release the next Mario baseball game with ONLY playable Mario and Luigi. Everyone else will come in a drip feed of free updates over the course of 2 years when nobody cares anymore. And like you said in the vid. Since no one cares, Nintendo doesn't want to bother. And that only makes it worse because these unfinished games were 60 bucks.
With these free updates becoming more common with Nintendo games, I’ve been pushed away from buying most of their recent games and probably won’t pick them up at all in the future, this video perfectly details all the issues I have with this update model strategy they’ve been doing recently.
Funny, isn't it? They poop out these unfinished games faster to make a profit, but end up losing profit because a lot of us are waiting for the DLC to finish before buying (If Nintendo decides to finish them at all). And by the time the game's complete and worth the money, we have our attention to other games instead
@@therealjaystone2344 when the game adds bonus content for a complete game that needs it, it is fine. In Battle League's case, it was used to try and bring the rest of the game in the next few months or years, which is terrible. Super Mario Maker 2 is a good example of how free updates would help the game rather than make up the rest of the game.
@@julienherard414 I think Super Mario Maker 2 is a bad example. The updates for it were spread too far from each other. They were going to add more after the world creator. But people had already left the game and thus Nintendo threw away what they were gonna add originally
@@captainamedeus7047 hence why free doing free updates need some consistency to work. Their only issue was not bringing out enough updates fast enough. Battle League's issue is having barebones content at the start and then promising free updates in the near future.
I love Mario Strikers but, I'm already tired of playing Battle League and it has only been 2 days since it's release. It's weird how I can play Mario Kart Wii everyday and not get bored, a 15 year old game that NEVER got updated and was finished at launch over something that literally just came out and is one of my favourite Nintendo series
Because you are comparing randomness kart racing to a sports game, by default, Mario Kart will always be more fun than a sports game due to sheer randomness
Splitting up Animal Crossing into updates was such a big mistake. Whilst exciting at first, the lack of content meant it lacked the seemingly limited charm of the previous animal crossings. Sad that this is happening with other games
No Daisy, no money! And since she isn't in the release version, I will probably wait at least until the game's on sale. And if it remains worse than Charged, I might not buy it at all.
If the game cart doesn’t get updated with newer content (which I doubt) I will never get this game. Worse Striker game the base game will be this, a glorified Demo.

Daisy wouldn’t be an issue for me if it weren’t for Toad, I’m not a huge Daisy fan but putting Toad in this game and not Daisy is absurd, not hating on Toad but I’d argue that Daisy is a better character than Toad, other than that my big gripe is no career/adventure mode, even Mario tennis aces has this!
@@Guilipinos that’s a terrible argument. Waluigi’s been in even less mainline games than Daisy has, but he got in, because he’s loved by the fans. A quality which Daisy absolutely has over Toad.

I don’t see the reason for Toad replacing Daisy, most likely it’s Rosalina who replaces Daisy. I’m not saying Rosalina is a bad character, but she is like a DLC character than part of the main roster of the base game, overrated, and overused as she appeared in every spinoff Mario Game since Super Mario 3D World.

I think it’s because when Nintendo makes new games, they want to get them out as soon as they can. I feel like Iwata would have never stood for this kinda stuff. The man was a gamer at heart and knew what players wanted. Modern Nintendo is clearly all about the $$$. Maybe the Switch’s success went to their head? It’s sad to see either way.

I’ve got the game today, but before asking for Daisy, before asking for more stadiums, before asking for more colors, I REALLY want a button customisation option, shooting with the A button (on a GameCube controller) is really odd.
It’s not big deal in a pro-controller, but for me that I wanted to relive my happy moments with a GameCube controller, It make me feel that I was the problem
I just wish Nintendo can just listen to their fans and just understand at least one thing, or listen to the criticisms that they're hearing to understand how to make the game more better, It's like so impossible for the community just to reach out to the creator
The stages are the same grass field, just with different custom background stadiums. Charged actually had actual stages with ring outs, stage hazards, weather conditions.
They don’t even have a 4v4 with randoms online many are so disappointed it’s funny because the online is the main focus in this game and if it’s bad dam this game won’t age well unless they fix that on like the first update i really do think this game will be the last straw for people. And once a wise man once said if a game is delayed will end up being a really good game if a game is rushed the game will be bad. And then you got games like breath of the wild 2 comin, splatoon 3, bayonetta 3, and fire emblem warriors that’s coming out and people will play those games instead.
I'm almost certain that after the poor reception and sales, Nintendo will conclude it's not worth it to put in many more resources to support the game with updates, just like how they did with Mario Golf. But the thing Nintendo doesn't get is that the sales are low _because_ of the half-baked state it released in, making it a self-fulfilling prophecy.
Daisy is too tough to be kidnapped which would explain her absence in Luigi's Mansion 3. That's only my theory and the Luigi's Mansion Trilogy is within the mainline Mario series.
Having a game centered around Luigi and Daisy, but the plot be the same as Mario saving Peach would be really fucking lame. What's the point of a Luigi and Daisy game if they're just gonna be Mario and Peach 2.0?
Hard to think of the kirby update as anything since it hasn't really changed how the story mode is played unless there's a major thing it changes in the story aside a statue at the end of the bonus level But strikers and other games feels like it's trying to copy splatoon success of the model but failing badly In splatoon even the smallest weekly weapon can change the meta in a significant way. I can't say the same in alot of the others games that uses this model especially the mario sports game. Just feels like nintendo is forcing the devs to use this model
My main issue with this game in particular is that it feels more like a mini game than an actual game. The stadium is much smaller and the time limit shorter. It just feels like a total clusterf*ck.
it really bums me out with how Battle League came out especially with how much of a masterpiece Charged was. Charged had the personality, the chaos, the fun gameplay, the content, the music, the stages, and much more, all they had to do was to add on to that even if meant to bring back old content, and even then I would've been fine seeing old stages coming back with a makeover. Battle League just feels so empty, the stages are boring and lack personality, the atmosphere is non existent, gameplay is very repetitive and lacks the chaos that charged had, and the lack of content kills replayability for solo players.
This was something that’s been stewing in my head for a while, and hearing your opinion on it helped me to express myself about this issue. I remember that I picked up Mario Tennis Aces because (unless I’m mistaken) the free update thing wasn’t common yet, and I wanted the next Mario Tennis game. Not to mention the new gimmicks and Chain Chomp. It was fun, well-designed, and I enjoyed playing it, but even with the complete roster today, I don’t really feel motivated to go back and play it. I’m not entirely sure, maybe it’s just the little things, like the lack of Tournament victory animations or mini games being restricted to motion controls. By the time Golf: Super Rush was announced, I was like: Pro: This game has King Bob-omb, Chargin’ Chuck, and some slick outfits for most of the returning cast. Also, speed golf looks like fun. Con: Golf isn’t really my thing, my biggest motive was to unlock stuff and there’s not enough here to warrant $60 from me. In a similar case with Strikers, all these Mario Sports games have phenomenal game designs to spice things up in some way, but there just isn’t enough content to convince me to fork over all that cash. You said you didn’t want to acknowledge it, but let’s face it: If the Switch servers die 13 years from now, Battle League will have nothing but Single Play and Tournaments. Charged is stuck with that, too, but there’s a fair amount of content to unlock if you haven’t already. From where I stand, it’s somewhat of a moral debate. I miss the days when so many more games were filled to the brim with hidden unlockable content, but then I tell myself that it could be worse. All of this free DLC could’ve been paid instead. That doesn’t excuse the debacle, but it’s something I try to cling to in a semi-desperate fashion.
When i was playing the free event thingy i literally thought it was a limited version of the game like reduced characters and stages on purpose 💀 How is that worth a full price game it barely felt like a full game
I absolutely adore Charged, probably my favourite game of all time. Battle League is still great, but I just think some of the key design choices made this a lesser experience rather than the lack of content. The gritty artstyle, diverse music selection, more brutal moments with physically beaten up, burnt and frozen characters throughout add to the charm of it all. The biggest thing for me is that you call the game "Battle League" yet have no league format whatsoever? literally the simplest way to provide long term engagement with the player, get them coming back. Charged had 3 cups that did genuinely keep me coming back and wanting to get through. In the time I beat all the cups in Battle League I could MAYBE have beat one cup in Charged, and thats assuming I even win it bc the game can be so tough at times. Charged had you playing 6,7,8 games in a cup, you can beat a cup in Battle League by winning 3, and they're painfully easy. I think time constraints played a part, but overall I think an unfortunate lack of understanding of what made Charged such an amazing experience and game has been the main issue behind it.
I also don't like the fields in Battle League. They all look the same and are so, SO small. Compared to the og Strikers and Charged, the fields barely have any personality. It looks like they're playing in a bathtub, a little kiddy sink and I hate it
For fuck's sake, even Rocket League, a gamw released SEVEN YEARS before Battle League, had way more content at launch and you could find enjoyment both on-line and by yourself. The new Mario Strikers is sadly, outta respect after the tricks they pulled

Sadly, I feel like the gameplay, the animations and the OST are the only good things in this game. The rest is either really bad or extremely poorly implemented. That includes the lack of characters, the CPUs, the matchmaking and even the gear system. And don't get me started on the clubs because I think that's the worst thing in this game (which is pretty ironic since it's the feature they tried to hype up the most).
This whole strategy all started back in 2015, with the release of Splatoon As much as I love Splatoon it has greatly effected the way Nintendo sees their releases where they add in more things post launch to keep their player base for that game active and alive I also believe this was a way for them to bring more releases at a faster rate to ensure they don’t have First party droughts, as a result it ends up leaving a lot of games in launch states where it feels half of the game is missing (ex: Animal Crossing and Kirby Star Allies) I genuinely believe this is the game that really broke me from being excited for a Nintendo release because I was blindly hopeful, telling myself FINALLY my favorite Mario Sports series makes a return after 10+ years only for it to be like the majority of the underwhelming Switch’s “finish it later” games I’m tired of feeling upset and let down I just want to feel that excitement again for releases
I’ve never played a Mario Strikers game, but I have seen a lot of gameplay of all of them. It’s borderline lazy for them to do things like this, but as long as the 💰 keeps coming in, they’ll keep doing it. It’s a love/hate relationship with Nintendo, because we love the games they make, mostly, but hate a lot of the execution in which they do it.
I think anyone who played charged will see this game as a massive downgrade and i kinda agree, its still fun but -No character specific themes or atleast not to the level of charged -The mega strikes are cool but the mega strikes in charged were fucking insane -No captain/character specific items (dk slam, mario going giant etc.) -Less characters and stages like the video stated -The dodges are cool but charged had arguably better character specific dodges(like wario slaming the ground or dry bones teleporting with the ball) -There was also a different coloring on the ball that made it do a cool slow mo shot when u passed it to someone open Shit it feels like the only improvement is online and getting rid of needing to pass to charge the ball. Charged might have been broken but it was a fun level of broken man
Like many have pointed out: Free Updates aren't inherently BAD.. it's _HOW_ it's done. Like if Mario Strikers Battle League had enough cool and meaningful content at launch (INCLUDING DAISY) like more characters, stages, etc., The _fREe uPDAte!!_ thing wouldn't even be thaaaaat big of an issue. I'd argue that games like Super Smash Bros. Ultimate (weird example I know) and Super Mario Makers 1 & 2 work because they had solid gameplay, a solid amount of content at the start AND they have such massive communities. It also helps that Mario Maker is a build-your-own-world game where constant (emphasis on CONSTANT) updates with more tools opens up more possibilities. _Can you REALLY do that with Mario Strikers??_ It's not like it has a HUGE community like Smash, Mario Kart, etc. And I don't think it "works" like a "live service game" unlike Mario Maker or Splatoon 2 (it's more so a competitive online shooter but with its base game and DLC Has great single player content too) That's why Mario Tennis Aces, Mario Golf Super Rush, etc. Will forever have that stigma they have against them even if the former is MUCH better now... (But I still love Power Tennis on the GameCube more overall)
My biggest issue with this game is the lack of rank solo mode, i m in to rocket league and splatoon, those two are my favorite games, and even if you took out all customisation out of rocket league I would still put 100s of hours, just because I can improve and rank up and that keeps me motivated to improve. This game can’t offer me that even though I love the gameplay! If they don’t add a solo rank mode I will probably stop playing this game in like a few weeks and only play it when friends come over. Is sad the state of this game
Yea, it's really weird that a game like this that's pretty hard core and so focused on online competitive play doesn't have ranked... Even Nintendo Sports has ranked and that game is much more casual...
Daisy is too similar to peach, when it comes to modeling and body type. Current roster, everyone is more unique. Toad is better in this regard. If you have a small roster better have then all differ greatly and not get a near copy of Peach
Mario Strikers Battle League from what I played from the First Kick feels like a build of the game Nintendo would be showcasing at E3. Like we have more coming to the game but here is the basic gameplay and rough idea of how the characters are going to be with a hint that more characters will be at launch.
I hope enough people would agree to wait to play the game later so when there is more content, everyone will be there together and avoid the drained amount of online players
Daisy is a staple part of the core cast of characters that shouldn’t ever be dlc Daisy deserves that spot over Rosalina, Rosalina (compared to Daisy) is a dlc character and not a main roster type of character like Daisy is. An important thing to note is that if Rosalina wasn’t in the base roster it wouldn’t spark an uproar like with Daisy. And I like Rosalina but I’m slowly starting to not like her because she’s being held high by Nintendo while Daisy is completely overlooked.
I barely know that Rosalina character. I'm already fueling up my hatred for the character as Nintendo continues to pay too much attention to her in the latest Mario sports/spinoff games that they're forgetting about Daisy.
In some ways, I very much agree with what you're saying (despite the fact it's a Mario sports title, easily one of the core things I can point at in my argument that Nintendo makes way, way too many Mario spinoffs) The update system, although something I'm gonna turn around and say "there's some merit in having things turn up in real time, especially in games that either run in real time or are made for shorter play sessions over longer periods of time!" about, can be annoying, and definitely not the right solution to one of the Wii U's core problems (or indeed HD game development as a whole, which is continuing to persist with 5-7 year console life-cycles despite the fact that games are taking increasingly longer to develop), and the complaining *sometimes even more* as I get constantly reminded of something that's annoying me already in a way that makes it clear the person complaining knows nothing about game development. But in other ways, there's something I think you're fundamentally missing with games like NH, Switch Sports or this Mario Strikers game: they're sequels to what I'm gonna call "sequel games", ie. games that are able to recycle the assets of an older game and build upon it, like NL was to CF, Wii Sports Resort was to the original Wii Sports, and Strikers Charged was to the original Strikers. I think the scaling down of these games is ultimately intentional, because *you don't try making a sequel game first, you take baby steps and make something smaller, then build upon it at a later date*. Admittedly, this isn't a complete explanation of what the deal is with these games (and also doesn't explain Mario Tennis Aces, but it sure as hell explains Mario Tennis: Ultra Smash) and is in no way meant as a (complete) excuse, because there's still part of me that's going "WAAA CONTENT", regardless of my feelings towards treating something as merely "content" as opposed to something that is there for a reason, and I don't think just going "well actually this is why" makes it any better, it just explains *why* it is. It potentially gives us a way to solve the problem, but it's in no way a solution. One last note is that I also feel Nintendo is steadily going "aaa, we can't do this anymore" and making plans for expansion to prevent this kind of thing happening, going by the fact they've started buying more of their additional studios, and land to build an additional headquarters, as of late. It might take a good few years, but at some point, this is going to stop happening... but for the near future, it's gonna be this. Or releasing games of mixed lengths, that worked very well last year?
This is my issue too, will I buy if strikers has Daisy... maybe, Pauline most likely. I mean, the only reason I bought Aces was for Pauline since that's her playable debut. I've yet to buy Super Rush despite it having a playable Pauline because it can only go so far
The philosophy is tough. Do I want it in my hands while they work on it, or just get the full experience later? Ultimately, I think you are right that lacking content early hurts the game, but at least for a sports game its nice to be able to play exhibition matches now, but thats basically all the game is at this point, and theres a long list of stuff I wish would be added that probably won't like we saw with Aces and Golf. Also would it kill Nintendo to add a franchise mode instead of a tournament with 3-4 games? The golf story mode was pretty cool, but short, but we need longer form management type seasons.
I also want to point out the other reason why Nintnedo releases their games with update that come later is because of some cartridge storage limitations. If you think about it, a switch cartridge or physical game can only hold a limited amount of data. The rest of the data or extra updated data usually has to be put out as downloadable content.
@@julienherard414 true, I feel like if BOTW2 is bigger, they could just put half the content is on the cartridge and the other content is downloadable. I will also put out the PS1 Final Fantasy games as an example since they had a similar thing where data was organized on multiple discs.
Technology has come a long way and cartridges keep getting smaller and smaller, the PSVITA and those tiny disks with many terabytes of storage come to mind. If there really was a storage limitation then a day one patch with all the "free content" would've been available to download or they'd make an announcement explaining as such, no this is clearly Nintendo rushing a game to pad out their summer lineup.
I actually just played Switch Sports for the first time this week, alongside Strikers. It's hard to believe that this is everything. It's so bare, we tried to create characters and they all looked exactly alike. Also, it sucks you have to unlock everything for every account. WTF? I want to make guest characters for friends too. Customization is so important to me. ;_; To see the same five outfits/accessories for every character in Strikers was disheartening. It suffers the same fate and you described it best. Their intent for free updates hinders more than it maintains in the community. Edit: Also; great video! I just subscribed. I guess I was randomly recommended this, and I'm glad I watched it. There was enough thought and effect put into this I automatically assumed you had hundreds of thousands of subs. lol
I loved Mario strikes. Both the GameCube and charged. This new iteration has completely disappointed me without having Daisy there. I simply not be getting it unless she’s in. And if the content is as lackluster, then Shinto won’t be getting it at all
I always say, it's not the free updates that are bad, it's how you execute them: Mario Maker 2 and Metroid Dread had Free updates, but those actually feel like extra add-ons because those games had lots of content when they released. I'd argue that the case for Animal Crossing was not as bad as people make it out to be since the game is currently the second best selling Switch game (Trading groups are still pretty active for what I've seen, and at launch the game had enough content to keep players busy for at least about a year), but I do agree that it releasing during the Pandemic and being... well, Animal Crossing, also influenced its success. But then there are examples like the Mario Sports games and Nintendo Switch Sports, which clearly released unfinished and with tons of problems. Strikers though? That's another level of unfinished mess. The moment I saw that Daisy was not in the game is when I started to get suspicious. I'm honestly expecting this game to be flop, which is sad since it's the first Strikers game in 15 years, but I always say that Nintendo's "free update" stragety will eventually end up biting them in the end.
My gripe with free updates is that it's always series-staple-content that's missing and added back. Like how Animal Crossing launched without Redd, who's been in all 4 games prior. I think free updates can definitely be a good thing like with the examples you listed- it's only when the game has less than the titles before it that it's super noticeable. SHOULD they decide to cut things from the entry before , the game needs to add enough to balance it. Smash Ultimate is a good example because at launch it was missing things like the stage editor and home run contest, but people didn't care as much because the game had 80 characters. Mario Strikers has nothing to justify its wimpy solo, nor does Switch Sports for its 6. But I will agree on Animal Crossing, it was a content lite game but having been released during the pandemic brought it to a whole different service than most games don't face. It was also so many people's first Animal Crossing, that a lot of them are unaware of what they're missing. Animal Crossing also handles itself with a little more camouflage in it's day-to-day system, like by the time the New Leaf differences really started to weigh on me, I already had 100 hours in.
I saw the reviews and still bought it. I never thought there would be that little content. It would have been a brilliant game as the gameplay is exactly what I wanted but there's nothing to keep you playing after you spend 1 hour or less doing the cups

I got bored and decided to boot up charged again for my brother and I for the wii, till we realized that our nunchucks were mostly broken due to connection. After going to my PC to emulate it and map it to an xbox controller. The game felt amazing! We laughed, cheered, and even ooooohh when someone got bodied. The gameplay felt intense, fast, personality as we cheered for our players, and most importantly we had fun. There's rarely anytime that we play something together or even something we enjoy, but this game felt great even on a xbox controller and I really hope they fix the complains with BL cause the only things I liked about the game so far is the voice acting, costumes, and animation.
Just bought Charged instead of Battle Leauge. Really Stupid That there holding daisy hostage for 5.99 DLC Really Shows how Greedy they are by doing this.
In the case of dread I’m not upset with stuff like the boss rush and the harder difficulty mode, the original game already had enough content and what we expected from it (it also has a lot of replayability in general). The extra content was a nice bonus since we haven’t ever had a boss rush before and I’m fine with getting two new difficulty modes.
I had a *real* bad feeling about this game when I was watching footage and noticed something about the characters introducing themselves each match. I can sum it up with two words when the portal shows up: *"Look down."* Just before the camera zooms in on the character jumping out of the portal, look at the crowds. They stay as downscaled N64-looking models despite being in the foreground for that shot... and despite them being largely *toads and Yoshis.* Two of those have upscaled models for the playable ones in the game! Did Nintendo even let Next Level try on this? I thought the lack of multiple music genres in the soundtrack was bad enough, because that's one of the best things about Next Level Games titles like Wii Punch Out or Strikers Charged.
The game feels like more of an beta than a full complete game, With the little amount of stages and the little amount of characters. It doesnt feel right without daisy. Also we got no birdo? OR diddy, Man this game feels so empty. I honestly cant believe nintendo is still pushing rosalina. I really like her design but she just isnt daisy.
there’s more to it than just that. simplicity is something that comes with time, and every new game has gotten more n more barebones and simplistic. they just don’t have to put it all into a game anymore, they know people will by it if it has mario’s face on it.
I have put hours into this game, learning all the mechanics and getting good. And I can honestly say I had fun maybe 5% of the time. The game is in a sad state.
it's nice to get new games and such quickly but if it makes the game suffer through lack of content and such then it's not worth it. With splatoon it works so long as they bring every weapon back at the start along, but with games such as this where, if it's finished then you may be able to find secret optional content afterwards? it's not worth it at all
Even when the updates come out, charged will still (probably) have more fleshed out characters with all the sidekicks, unique goal music , and unique shots, like hammer bro throwing out hammers and burying the goalie.
And I think that can't be understated. Mario Strikers Battle League is just functionally a DIFFERENT game with different structures that aren't like the previous entries. Even down to the fact that there ARE no Side Kicks, Character specific Special Attacks, unique ARENAS, and so on. Also, come on... Even if Mario Strikers was "overrated", it has this unique and CRAZY feel that no other Mario Sports game has or has had ever SINCE. When Waluigi is doing the crotch hop or Daisy does her "hot stuff", it's like... Damn, this crazy environment really let them so such RAUNCHY and absurd things. Even Petey Piranha has that crazy SWAGGER that you like never see him have normally. Next Level Games was allowed to go all out with everything and it shows.
Each system Nintendo has seems to struggle in 2 departments that usually end up hurting both the player and the company. Here, the online model updates is it. In theory, it's great to add new modes that weren't fully complete or change something due to reception but it's not supposed to be used to push a game out early. That's just bad. Especially if the update may take a while. And you can't base your game for online if it's an incomplete game cause why pick it up after the initial release period. Why pick it up at all if you're gonna play it and then never touch the game again cause it's centered around online and it's an empty game? I'm so confused by the execution of this. It's fine once in a blue moon so a team can get their game out and then finish it without a longer wait period but it's for everything now. I really hope Nintendo's next console ditches this effort. I haven't even played that much on my switch this year... and a good portion of last year. Why should I when other systems aren't doing this?
I've owned 4 switches since Q4 2020 and since that time at least 2 mainline Pokemon games came out. I never touched a one of them to this day, not even to rent. The reason being, I did my homework and none of them were up to quality. If I'm being honest that hasn't been the case since emerald, for which I then sunk 150+ hours on Alpha Sapphire. I bought Moon never played it, skipped Gen IV twice, and haven't had the privilege of B&W. If Nintendo provided me the service at the full state of its experience I'd happily pay $50 for it- a 10 year old title. For now, their $60 titles are not with investing money. With all their flashy DLC and micro transactions which puff up the value like so much sawdust in the bread I'm here to tell you that you don't have to sink money into everything that bears the logo. Sometimes products are subpar, it also could be the case that they're just not for you. Make a Vlog about it. Nintendo is no different than Coca Cola or Verizon, they'll do whatever if they think it will net them viable resources. They are after all, in the business to make money
Thing is, I don't think anybody is ever complaining about a lack of Nintendo games. The complaint is that Nintendo consoles "only" have Nintendo games. The last thing they need is for the quality of their own games to drop.
i haven't even played a strikers game but it's still painfully obvious what's lacking. Honestly i'm tired of the "finish it later" approach, we get it Nintendo, you're busy, how about next time you simply give things more time in the oven instead of doing a half baked cake and making icing for it later. I feel like Nintendo's just now caught up with the current game industry. Triple A game companies nowadays have to push games out the door to please shareholders, regardless if they're actually finished, and it's easier to do that because of digital distribution.
Such a shame too, Nintendo was almost always about making sure the game was a great experience and worth playing. At least we still have the indie game market keeping up to motto of 'more bang for your buck'.
With the value of your buckskins, it's not the devs who are going to bang let alone eat over the pace at which they have to "please shareholders" and churn out produce. You're spitting straight facts with this vid. The free update model is probably the single biggest problem with modern Nintendo, and you nailed why it's such a bad idea. People who buy the game at launch are disappointed with the lack of content, then no one is around to play when the actual good updates happen, so Nintendo stops updating the game since no one cares anymore. Strikers feels like the last straw for people's patience with this stuff, which is sad because it has a lot of personality. I really hope they stop doing this in the future and start releasing content filled games again on day one.
I hope so! It's starting to feel like a once month thing. Switch Sports, Mario Strikers and next month is Splatoon 3. I'm not really a Splatoon guy, but I'm praying for those who are, especially considering it's out so soon and we've seen so little.
Updates in general are a big part of why modern gaming is dying. Or at least why it has suffered horribly. I cant hardly think of a game anymore that doesn't have to have comstant updates in order to "remain relevant". We have seen so many old games come and go and they still have their own communities to this day because what was delivered in that game was so good and lasting that it didn't need DLC to keep its interest going. I think people need to go back to the attitude when a game was completed and you should feel lucky if it gets extra content afterwards.
I prefer when devs had the incentive to complete the game without updates. First impressions are important and filling your hollow experience of a game with confetti doesn't replace the substance we once could expect from a Day 1 product.
I haven't even watched the video yet, but why are people disappointed with the lack of content when purchasing a game when you know Nintendo has adopted a free update model? That's like walking up to someone and slapping them in the face KNOWING you're going to get punched in retaliation, but then acting surprised when you get punched. If they were to wait to release the game until all the content was developed, you'd presumably get the game at the same time as when the free updates have finished anyway. The way it is now, you essentially get to try the game early when purchasing it. All the content will be there, for free, eventually, so I don't understand the problem. It's either "try the game now and get the full game months from now", or "get the game months from now". Personally, I'd rather try the game as early as possible.
I disagree. This model keeps online playerbases active and having a diverse spread of all skill levels instead of just the hardcore and top tier players.

Everyone else will come in a drip feed of free updates over the course of 2 years when nobody cares anymore.

With these free updates becoming more common with Nintendo games, I’ve been pushed away from buying most of their recent games and probably won’t pick them up at all in the future, this video perfectly details all the issues I have with this update model strategy they’ve been doing recently.
Funny, isn't it? They poop out these unfinished games faster to make a profit, but end up losing profit because a lot of us are waiting for the DLC to finish before buying (If Nintendo decides to finish them at all). And by the time the game's complete and worth the money, we have our attention to other games instead

In Battle League's case, it was used to try and bring the rest of the game in the next few months or years, which is terrible. Super Mario Maker 2 is a good example of how free updates would help the game rather than make up the rest of the game.

I think Super Mario Maker 2 is a bad example. The updates for it were spread too far from each other. They were going to add more after the world creator. But people had already left the game and thus Nintendo threw away what they were gonna add originally

I love Mario Strikers but, I'm already tired of playing Battle League and it has only been 2 days since it's release. It's weird how I can play Mario Kart Wii everyday and not get bored, a 15 year old game that NEVER got updated and was finished at launch over something that literally just came out and is one of my favourite Nintendo series

Splitting up Animal Crossing into updates was such a big mistake. Whilst exciting at first, the lack of content meant it lacked the seemingly limited charm of the previous animal crossings. Sad that this is happening with other games

Daisy wouldn’t be an issue for me if it weren’t for Toad, I’m not a huge Daisy fan but putting Toad in this game and not Daisy is absurd, not hating on Toad but I’d argue that Daisy is a better character than Toad, other than that my big gripe is no career/adventure mode, even Mario tennis aces has this!
Toad makes more sense than Daisy, he's in nearly all mainline and spinoff games, more often than Daisy

I don’t see the reason for Toad replacing Daisy, most likely it’s Rosalina who replaces Daisy. I’m not saying Rosalina is a bad character, but she is like a DLC character than part of the main roster of the base game, overrated, and overused as she appeared in every spinoff Mario Game since Super Mario 3D World.

I think I know why they do this. I think it’s because when Nintendo makes new games, they want to get them out as soon as they can. And they think that with the “Free Update” Model, the games can come out quicker and trick consumers into thinking they will get the game with all its content with “Future DLC”, when the ‘DLC’ is actually content the game was missing from the start.

It’s not big deal in a pro-controller, but for me that I wanted to relive my happy moments with a GameCube controller, It make me feel that I was the problem

The stages are the same grass field, just with different custom background stadiums. Charged actually had actual stages with ring outs, stage hazards, weather conditions.

They don’t even have a 4v4 with randoms online many are so disappointed it’s funny because the online is the main focus in this game and if it’s bad dam this game won’t age well unless they fix that on like the first update i really do think this game will be the last straw for people. And once a wise man once said if a game is delayed will end up being a really good game if a game is rushed the game will be bad. And then you got games like breath of the wild 2 comin, splatoon 3, bayonetta 3, and fire emblem warriors that’s coming out and people will play those games instead.

I'm almost certain that after the poor reception and sales, Nintendo will conclude it's not worth it to put in many more resources to support the game with updates, just like how they did with Mario Golf.

Hard to think of the kirby update as anything since it hasn't really changed how the story mode is played unless there's a major thing it changes in the story aside a statue at the end of the bonus level

In splatoon even the smallest weekly weapon can change the meta in a significant way. I can't say the same in alot of the others games that uses this model especially the mario sports game. Just feels like nintendo is forcing the devs to use this model

My main issue with this game in particular is that it feels more like a mini game than an actual game. The stadium is much smaller and the time limit shorter. It just feels like a total clusterf*ck.
it really bums me out with how Battle League came out especially with how much of a masterpiece Charged was. Charged had the personality, the chaos, the fun gameplay, the content, the music, the stages, and much more, all they had to do was to add on to that even if meant to bring back old content, and even then I would've been fine seeing old stages coming back with a makeover. Battle League just feels so empty, the stages are boring and lack personality, the atmosphere is non existent, gameplay is very repetitive and lacks the chaos that charged had, and the lack of content kills replayability for solo players.
This was something that’s been stewing in my head for a while, and hearing your opinion on it helped me to express myself about this issue.
I remember that I picked up Mario Tennis Aces because (unless I’m mistaken) the free update thing wasn’t common yet, and I wanted the next Mario Tennis game. Not to mention the new gimmicks and Chain Chomp. It was fun, well-designed, and I enjoyed playing it, but even with the complete roster today, I don’t really feel motivated to go back and play it. I’m not entirely sure, maybe it’s just the little things, like the lack of Tournament victory animations or mini games being restricted to motion controls.
By the time Golf: Super Rush was announced, I was like:
Pro: This game has King Bob-omb, Chargin’ Chuck, and some slick outfits for most of the returning cast. Also, speed golf looks like fun.
Con: Golf isn’t really my thing, my biggest motive was to unlock stuff and there’s not enough here to warrant $60 from me.
In a similar case with Strikers, all these Mario Sports games have phenomenal game designs to spice things up in some way, but there just isn’t enough content to convince me to fork over all that cash. You said you didn’t want to acknowledge it, but let’s face it: If the Switch servers die 13 years from now, Battle League will have nothing but Single Play and Tournaments. Charged is stuck with that, too, but there’s a fair amount of content to unlock if you haven’t already.
From where I stand, it’s somewhat of a moral debate. I miss the days when so many more games were filled to the brim with hidden unlockable content, but then I tell myself that it could be worse. All of this free DLC could’ve been paid instead. That doesn’t excuse the debacle, but it’s something I try to cling to in a semi-desperate fashion.
When i was playing the free event thingy i literally thought it was a limited version of the game like reduced characters and stages on purpose 💀

I absolutely adore Charged, probably my favourite game of all time. Battle League is still great, but I just think some of the key design choices made this a lesser experience rather than the lack of content. The gritty artstyle, diverse music selection, more brutal moments with physically beaten up, burnt and frozen characters throughout add to the charm of it all. The biggest thing for me is that you call the game "Battle League" yet have no league format whatsoever? literally the simplest way to provide long term engagement with the player, get them coming back. Charged had 3 cups that did genuinely keep me coming back and wanting to get through. In the time I beat all the cups in Battle League I could MAYBE have beat one cup in Charged, and thats assuming I even win it bc the game can be so tough at times. Charged had you playing 6,7,8 games in a cup, you can beat a cup in Battle League by winning 3, and they're painfully easy. I think time constraints played a part, but overall I think an unfortunate lack of understanding of what made Charged such an amazing experience and game has been the main issue behind it.
I also don't like the fields in Battle League. They all look the same and are so, SO small.
Compared to the og Strikers and Charged, the fields barely have any personality. It looks like they're playing in a bathtub, a little kiddy sink and I hate it
For fuck's sake, even Rocket League, a gamw released SEVEN YEARS before Battle League, had way more content at launch and you could find enjoyment both on-line and by yourself.

Sadly, I feel like the gameplay, the animations and the OST are the only good things in this game.
The rest is either really bad or extremely poorly implemented. That includes the lack of characters, the CPUs, the matchmaking and even the gear system.
And don't get me started on the clubs because I think that's the worst thing in this game (which is pretty ironic since it's the feature they tried to hype up the most).
This whole strategy all started back in 2015, with the release of Splatoon
As much as I love Splatoon it has greatly effected the way Nintendo sees their releases where they add in more things post launch to keep their player base for that game active and alive
I also believe this was a way for them to bring more releases at a faster rate to ensure they don’t have First party droughts, as a result it ends up leaving a lot of games in launch states where it feels half of the game is missing (ex: Animal Crossing and Kirby Star Allies)
I genuinely believe this is the game that really broke me from being excited for a Nintendo release because I was blindly hopeful, telling myself FINALLY my favorite Mario Sports series makes a return after 10+ years only for it to be like the majority of the underwhelming Switch’s “finish it later” games
I’m tired of feeling upset and let down I just want to feel that excitement again for releases

I’ve never played a Mario Strikers game, but I have seen a lot of gameplay of all of them. It’s borderline lazy for them to do things like this, but as long as the 💰 keeps coming in, they’ll keep doing it. It’s a love/hate relationship with Nintendo, because we love the games they make, mostly, but hate a lot of the execution in which they do it.
I think anyone who played charged will see this game as a massive downgrade and i kinda agree, its still fun but
-No character specific themes or atleast not to the level of charged
-The mega strikes are cool but the mega strikes in charged were fucking insane
-No captain/character specific items (dk slam, mario going giant etc.)
-Less characters and stages like the video stated
-The dodges are cool but charged had arguably better character specific dodges(like wario slaming the ground or dry bones teleporting with the ball)
-There was also a different coloring on the ball that made it do a cool slow mo shot when u passed it to someone open
Shit it feels like the only improvement is online and getting rid of needing to pass to charge the ball. Charged might have been broken but it was a fun level of broken man

Like if Mario Strikers Battle League had enough cool and meaningful content at launch (INCLUDING DAISY) like more characters, stages, etc., The _fREe uPDAte!!_ thing wouldn't even be thaaaaat big of an issue.
I'd argue that games like Super Smash Bros. Ultimate (weird example I know) and Super Mario Makers 1 & 2 work because they had solid gameplay, a solid amount of content at the start AND they have such massive communities. It also helps that Mario Maker is a build-your-own-world game where constant (emphasis on CONSTANT) updates with more tools opens up more possibilities.
_Can you REALLY do that with Mario Strikers??_ It's not like it has a HUGE community like Smash, Mario Kart, etc. And I don't think it "works" like a "live service game" unlike Mario Maker or Splatoon 2 (it's more so a competitive online shooter but with its base game and DLC Has great single player content too)
That's why Mario Tennis Aces, Mario Golf Super Rush, etc. Will forever have that stigma they have against them even if the former is MUCH better now... (But I still love Power Tennis on the GameCube more overall)

My biggest issue with this game is the lack of rank solo mode, i m in to rocket league and splatoon, those two are my favorite games, and even if you took out all customisation out of rocket league I would still put 100s of hours, just because I can improve and rank up and that keeps me motivated to improve. This game can’t offer me that even though I love the gameplay! If they don’t add a solo rank mode I will probably stop playing this game in like a few weeks and only play it when friends come over. Is sad the state of this game
Yea, it's really weird that a game like this that's pretty hard core and so focused on online competitive play doesn't have ranked... Even Nintendo Sports has ranked and that game is much more casual...
Daisy is too similar to peach, when it comes to modeling and body type. Current roster, everyone is more unique. Toad is better in this regard. If you have a small roster better have then all differ greatly and not get a near copy of Peach

Mario Strikers Battle League from what I played from the First Kick feels like a build of the game Nintendo would be showcasing at E3. Like we have more coming to the game but here is the basic gameplay and rough idea of how the characters are going to be with a hint that more characters will be at launch.
I hope enough people would agree to wait to play the game later so when there is more content, everyone will be there together and avoid the drained amount of online players

Daisy is a staple part of the core cast of characters that shouldn’t ever be dlc Daisy deserves that spot over Rosalina, Rosalina (compared to Daisy) is a dlc character and not a main roster type of character like Daisy is. An important thing to note is that if Rosalina wasn’t in the base roster it wouldn’t spark an uproar like with Daisy. And I like Rosalina but I’m slowly starting to not like her because she’s being held high by Nintendo while Daisy is completely overlooked.
I barely know that Rosalina character. I'm already fueling up my hatred for the character as Nintendo continues to pay too much attention to her in the latest Mario sports/spinoff games that they're forgetting about Daisy.
In some ways, I very much agree with what you're saying (despite the fact it's a Mario sports title, easily one of the core things I can point at in my argument that Nintendo makes way, way too many Mario spinoffs) The update system, although something I'm gonna turn around and say "there's some merit in having things turn up in real time, especially in games that either run in real time or are made for shorter play sessions over longer periods of time!" about, can be annoying, and definitely not the right solution to one of the Wii U's core problems (or indeed HD game development as a whole, which is continuing to persist with 5-7 year console life-cycles despite the fact that games are taking increasingly longer to develop), and the complaining *sometimes even more* as I get constantly reminded of something that's annoying me already in a way that makes it clear the person complaining knows nothing about game development.
But in other ways, there's something I think you're fundamentally missing with games like NH, Switch Sports or this Mario Strikers game: they're sequels to what I'm gonna call "sequel games", ie. games that are able to recycle the assets of an older game and build upon it, like NL was to CF, Wii Sports Resort was to the original Wii Sports, and Strikers Charged was to the original Strikers. I think the scaling down of these games is ultimately intentional, because *you don't try making a sequel game first, you take baby steps and make something smaller, then build upon it at a later date*.
Admittedly, this isn't a complete explanation of what the deal is with these games (and also doesn't explain Mario Tennis Aces, but it sure as hell explains Mario Tennis: Ultra Smash) and is in no way meant as a (complete) excuse, because there's still part of me that's going "WAAA CONTENT", regardless of my feelings towards treating something as merely "content" as opposed to something that is there for a reason, and I don't think just going "well actually this is why" makes it any better, it just explains *why* it is. It potentially gives us a way to solve the problem, but it's in no way a solution.
One last note is that I also feel Nintendo is steadily going "aaa, we can't do this anymore" and making plans for expansion to prevent this kind of thing happening, going by the fact they've started buying more of their additional studios, and land to build an additional headquarters, as of late. It might take a good few years, but at some point, this is going to stop happening... but for the near future, it's gonna be this.
Or releasing games of mixed lengths, that worked very well last year?
This is my issue too, will I buy if strikers has Daisy... maybe, Pauline most likely. I mean, the only reason I bought Aces was for Pauline since that's her playable debut. I've yet to buy Super Rush despite it having a playable Pauline because it can only go so far

The philosophy is tough. Do I want it in my hands while they work on it, or just get the full experience later? Ultimately, I think you are right that lacking content early hurts the game, but at least for a sports game its nice to be able to play exhibition matches now, but thats basically all the game is at this point, and theres a long list of stuff I wish would be added that probably won't like we saw with Aces and Golf.
Also would it kill Nintendo to add a franchise mode instead of a tournament with 3-4 games? The golf story mode was pretty cool, but short, but we need longer form management type seasons.
I also want to point out the other reason why Nintnedo releases their games with update that come later is because of some cartridge storage limitations.
If you think about it, a switch cartridge or physical game can only hold a limited amount of data. The rest of the data or extra updated data usually has to be put out as downloadable content.

@@julienherard414 true, I feel like if BOTW2 is bigger, they could just put half the content is on the cartridge and the other content is downloadable. I will also put out the PS1 Final Fantasy games as an example since they had a similar thing where data was organized on multiple discs.

Technology has come a long way and cartridges keep getting smaller and smaller, the PSVITA and those tiny disks with many terabytes of storage come to mind. If there really was a storage limitation then a day one patch with all the "free content" would've been available to download or they'd make an announcement explaining as such, no this is clearly Nintendo rushing a game to pad out their summer lineup.

I actually just played Switch Sports for the first time this week, alongside Strikers. It's hard to believe that this is everything. It's so bare, we tried to create characters and they all looked exactly alike. Also, it sucks you have to unlock everything for every account. WTF? I want to make guest characters for friends too. Customization is so important to me. ;_; To see the same five
outfits/accessories for every character in Strikers was disheartening. It suffers the same fate and you described it best. Their intent for free updates hinders more than it maintains in the community.

I loved Mario strikes. Both the GameCube and charged. This new iteration has completely disappointed me without having Daisy there. I simply not be getting it unless she’s in. And if the content is as lackluster, then Shinto won’t be getting it at all
I always say, it's not the free updates that are bad, it's how you execute them:
Mario Maker 2 and Metroid Dread had Free updates, but those actually feel like extra add-ons because those games had lots of content when they released.
I'd argue that the case for Animal Crossing was not as bad as people make it out to be since the game is currently the second best selling Switch game (Trading groups are still pretty active for what I've seen, and at launch the game had enough content to keep players busy for at least about a year), but I do agree that it releasing during the Pandemic and being... well, Animal Crossing, also influenced its success.
But then there are examples like the Mario Sports games and Nintendo Switch Sports, which clearly released unfinished and with tons of problems. Strikers though? That's another level of unfinished mess. The moment I saw that Daisy was not in the game is when I started to get suspicious.
I'm honestly expecting this game to be flop, which is sad since it's the first Strikers game in 15 years, but I always say that Nintendo's "free update" stragety will eventually end up biting them in the end.
My gripe with free updates is that it's always series-staple-content that's missing and added back. Like how Animal Crossing launched without Redd, who's been in all 4 games prior. I think free updates can definitely be a good thing like with the examples you listed- it's only when the game has less than the titles before it that it's super noticeable. SHOULD they decide to cut things from the entry before , the game needs to add enough to balance it. Smash Ultimate is a good example because at launch it was missing things like the stage editor and home run contest, but people didn't care as much because the game had 80 characters. Mario Strikers has nothing to justify its wimpy solo, nor does Switch Sports for its 6.
But I will agree on Animal Crossing, it was a content lite game but having been released during the pandemic brought it to a whole different service than most games don't face. It was also so many people's first Animal Crossing, that a lot of them are unaware of what they're missing. Animal Crossing also handles itself with a little more camouflage in it's day-to-day system, like by the time the New Leaf differences really started to weigh on me, I already had 100 hours in.

I got bored and decided to boot up charged again for my brother and I for the wii, till we realized that our nunchucks were mostly broken due to connection. After going to my PC to emulate it and map it to an xbox controller. The game felt amazing! We laughed, cheered, and even ooooohh when someone got bodied. The gameplay felt intense, fast, personality as we cheered for our players, and most importantly we had fun. There's rarely anytime that we play something together or even something we enjoy, but this game felt great even on a xbox controller and I really hope they fix the complains with BL cause the only things I liked about the game so far is the voice acting, costumes, and animation.
Just bought Charged instead of Battle Leauge. Really Stupid That there holding daisy hostage for 5.99 DLC Really Shows how Greedy they are by doing this.
In the case of dread I’m not upset with stuff like the boss rush and the harder difficulty mode, the original game already had enough content and what we expected from it (it also has a lot of replayability in general). The extra content was a nice bonus since we haven’t ever had a boss rush before and I’m fine with getting two new difficulty modes.
I'll confess, I agree. Nintendo switch just isn't the Wii or Wii U I came into Nintendo for.
Ironically, Nintendo deciding to include Rosalina in place of Daisy is not a good way to endear her to Daisy fans lol

Great vid. Took all my words on this game out of my mouth.
I had a *real* bad feeling about this game when I was watching footage and noticed something about the characters introducing themselves each match. I can sum it up with two words when the portal shows up: *"Look down."* Just before the camera zooms in on the character jumping out of the portal, look at the crowds. They stay as downscaled N64-looking models despite being in the foreground for that shot... and despite them being largely *toads and Yoshis.* Two of those have upscaled models for the playable ones in the game!
Did Nintendo even let Next Level try on this? I thought the lack of multiple music genres in the soundtrack was bad enough, because that's one of the best things about Next Level Games titles like Wii Punch Out or Strikers Charged.

The game feels like more of an beta than a full complete game, With the little amount of stages and the little amount of characters. It doesnt feel right without daisy. Also we got no birdo? OR diddy, Man this game feels so empty. I honestly cant believe nintendo is still pushing rosalina. I really like her design but she just isnt daisy.

there’s more to it than just that. simplicity is something that comes with time, and every new game has gotten more n more barebones and simplistic. they just don’t have to put it all into a game anymore, they know people will by it if it has mario’s face on it.
I have put hours into this game, learning all the mechanics and getting good. And I can honestly say I had fun maybe 5% of the time. The game is in a sad state.
Love the game just needs more but I'm going to keep playing for the longhaul
it's nice to get new games and such quickly but if it makes the game suffer through lack of content and such then it's not worth it. With splatoon it works so long as they bring every weapon back at the start along, but with games such as this where, if it's finished then you may be able to find secret optional content afterwards? it's not worth it at all
Even when the updates come out, charged will still (probably) have more fleshed out characters with all the sidekicks, unique goal music , and unique shots, like hammer bro throwing out hammers and burying the goalie.
And I think that can't be understated. Mario Strikers Battle League is just functionally a DIFFERENT game with different structures that aren't like the previous entries. Even down to the fact that there ARE no Side Kicks, Character specific Special Attacks, unique ARENAS, and so on.
Also, come on... Even if Mario Strikers was "overrated", it has this unique and CRAZY feel that no other Mario Sports game has or has had ever SINCE. When Waluigi is doing the crotch hop or Daisy does her "hot stuff", it's like... Damn, this crazy environment really let them so such RAUNCHY and absurd things. Even Petey Piranha has that crazy SWAGGER that you like never see him have normally. Next Level Games was allowed to go all out with everything and it shows.
Each system Nintendo has seems to struggle in 2 departments that usually end up hurting both the player and the company. Here, the online model updates is it. In theory, it's great to add new modes that weren't fully complete or change something due to reception but it's not supposed to be used to push a game out early. That's just bad. Especially if the update may take a while. And you can't base your game for online if it's an incomplete game cause why pick it up after the initial release period. Why pick it up at all if you're gonna play it and then never touch the game again cause it's centered around online and it's an empty game? I'm so confused by the execution of this. It's fine once in a blue moon so a team can get their game out and then finish it without a longer wait period but it's for everything now. I really hope Nintendo's next console ditches this effort. I haven't even played that much on my switch this year... and a good portion of last year. Why should I when other systems aren't doing this?
I've owned 4 switches since Q4 2020 and since that time at least 2 mainline Pokemon games came out. I never touched a one of them to this day, not even to rent.
The reason being, I did my homework and none of them were up to quality. If I'm being honest that hasn't been the case since emerald, for which I then sunk 150+ hours on Alpha Sapphire. I bought Moon never played it, skipped Gen IV twice, and haven't had the privilege of B&W.
If Nintendo provided me the service at the full state of its experience I'd happily pay $50 for it- a 10 year old title. For now, their $60 titles are not with investing money. With all their flashy DLC and micro transactions which puff up the value like so much sawdust in the bread
I'm here to tell you that you don't have to sink money into everything that bears the logo. Sometimes products are subpar, it also could be the case that they're just not for you. Make a Vlog about it. Nintendo is no different than Coca Cola or Verizon, they'll do whatever if they think it will net them viable resources. They are after all, in the business to make money
Thing is, I don't think anybody is ever complaining about a lack of Nintendo games. The complaint is that Nintendo consoles "only" have Nintendo games. The last thing they need is for the quality of their own games to drop.

Honestly i'm tired of the "finish it later" approach, we get it Nintendo, you're busy, how about next time you simply give things more time in the oven instead of doing a half baked cake and making icing for it later.
I'm aware sometimes delays are annoying, but if you're clear and *actually be transparent about it* people won't mind in the end.

100% agree with this video. The game is missing over a dozen characters and stages. Anyone else STILL waiting for potential content release for Mario Party Superstars?
Even here my club (United) is a joke. Goes to show how much we've fallen because of certain individuals in the club, like how Battle League falls short of being a great game
