  • I've always thought in my head that if you bagged a Mercedes SLC that it would look bad ass. I've never seen one bagged here in the states and when I found the right SLC for my vision I hopped on it and scooped it up. This video explains why I wanted to bag it and why I made some of the choices I did along the way. Enjoy.

    I LOVE the look. I say keep the bumpers as is. STOCK. This way you keep the two sets of lights. The wheels are PERFECT. They fit the look you wanted. I'm with you, you won't see another like this with the color, the stance and the great interior. You have a good eye, trust it !! 11.13.23

      That’s how I’m leaning. I honestly don’t mind the look of the American numbers when tucked in

      They were known by us as "nader bars" after the clown who pushed the 5MPH bumper concept.

    Bagged my SL450 back in 2021 and I can agree that it’s not an easy car to bag!! Euro conversion would look great too!

      I do enjoy having a car that not a lot of people customize. Yours is super clean 🔥

    The transmission is a 3 speed but more like a 2,3,4 as you'll see that the max 1-2 shift is around 60mph. If you're going to want lower highway RPM, swap the rear end which is 3.07 to one from a later car like a 500SEL (pre 86) which is a 2.47 or 2.24.

      I was talking to another Mercedes owner at a show and he suggested the same thing of swapping the gears as the euro spec cars were given a different ratio then the American versions

    Hey man nice SLC love the colour, great work to bag it too, looks as tough as it gonna get with those wheels. I've had an original 1979 450SLC in the champagne gold for the last 7 years ( I love there shape too) but in my city Melbourne Australia its a much cooler climate so I can drive it any time. Your right about the gearing it's really bad for highway mine sits on 3000rmp doing 100KMs an hour its smooth and not too noisy just sucks juice like you need to be towing a gas station behind you. I've looked into doing an auto trans swap and its not an easy option you lucky your in the US though more parts around, the only viable auto if you want to stay with Mercedes is a 5 speed unit 722.5 from the 90's before they all went electronic or a GM T400e I think it's called which is a 4 speed auto with over drive.
    You have to get advice for fitment as that's as far as I got, you could convert it to a manual gearbox there are kits around to do it but there not cheap and that's a whole other level,
    I just live with it and don't go on very long drives. My opinion keep the original bumpers, then spend some money to get the air-conditioning working it's doable.
    Cheers Lucky from Sodasquid Band

      Appreciate it. I haven’t even driven it here as it’s been a hot summer but now that it’s starting to get cooler I’ll start driving it more. If I have to travel anywhere far I think I’ll trailer it. I have some upcoming shows with it coming up so should have more content coming soon. I’ll think about the trans shop but not sure the cost will be worth it. Who knows but I appreciate your feedback.

    I want one but on coil overs 2 inches of the ground cut and rolled fenders with flairs rolling on 18x11 front 18x12 rear stretch tires amg engine swap but that’s just a dream. This thing is cool enough wish it was mine

      I dig that set up as well. They’re cheap enough that you can buy one and just play around and do what you want and not loose your ass doing so

    You can go for European lights and bumpers, maybe a amg bodykit? The wheels look close to the bbs rims you saw back in time in germany.

    • @315squared4
      @315squared4  8 місяців тому

      I kinda like the American headlights but I might update them so they’re brighter. The bumpers are currently the same for now but we’ll see.

      By the way there was a 5 speed gearbox. For the later versions with more Hp. Check out the AMG 560 SL 6.0L.@@315squared4

    Get rid of the M117/722.0 engine/trans and swap in an LS/4L80 combo. Decide on a ride height and dial in some springs and shocks. Toss the air bags in the trash.

    • @Mercmad
      @Mercmad 5 місяців тому

      Have you ever done this? I didn't think so. It doesn't fit and a Australian Monaro/Commodore oil pan has to be used to get the engine down to where the drive shaft is in the correct line. The US versions of these cars has a pretty low compression and the engines are pretty tough. A blower of turbo would be a better isdea and it's been done in Europe dozens of times (Mosselman kits etc )
